To put things in perspective, Marino smashed the TD passed record by 12...or rather 25 percent. iirc the record was 36 by Y.A. Title and George Blanda. It would be like someone coming along and throwing 68 in a season now and obliterating the current record. If truth be toldMarino could have thrown 60 even back then but Shula would insist on getting conservative and trying (in vane) to run the ball with big leads, which they would often blow. The Jets Game when they lost in overtime was a classic example. Up 45-38 and with the ball and a Marino hotter than ever, all they need to win the game is one first down. Three runs netted three yards followed by a punt and of course that defense couldn’t stop anyone so now it’s 45 all. Lost the coin toss and never saw the ball again. Miami 45-Jets 51. For all the numbers Marino put up in his prime, Shula still held him back. They should have just thrown in every down....
@McDonaldsDude Жыл бұрын
Should be noted that Blanda did 36 TD passes in 12 games and Tittle did 36 passes in 13 games (both were in 14 game seasons though). So adjusted for games played, Blanda would tie Marino and Tittle would be close. Still, what Dan did was amazing and everyone forgets he had another 40+ TD season in 1986 when he had 44.

When Marino counts the help he would get from today's RPOs, Dan Patrick doubts that fact because Marino doesn't have the running ability to make defenses respect the run part of the RPO. I literally have none of the participation trophies that I was given my mother made sure I knew how ridiculous they were. I still have my individual awards and trophies plus a couple tournament trophies but anyway I just wanted to back up what you said with that story. Ive always felt out of place with people my own age because I was raised different than most kids I grew up with. I get a long better with people my parents age lol

All three would destroy the modern laughable excuse of a league the NFL has devolved to.
