I am not sponsored by nor am I being paid by Torq Master Industries for this Install & Review.
Just about one year ago I installed the Torq Locker by Torq Master Industries in my 2015 JKU after sheering my spider gears. Since then it was installed for 10 months and I put a combination of 8,000 miles of on and off-road driving on it. I just recently finished my axle swap project so it was the opportune time to do a review.
The Install of the Torq Locker is reverse of the dis-assembly and the link to my install and first impressions video is below. The re-installation of the Torq Locker took me maybe 20-30 minutes for the carrier and to fully assemble the complete axle again up to one additional hour. This went quick for me since I knew the process and had just dis-assembled it.
One item I could have articulated better in my explanation of the turning radius is that while the turning radius is impacted, if you setup for your turn and initiate it at the appropriate time you can achieve tight turns comparable to an open differential based on driver experience.
Torq Master Industries has the only automatic locker made in the USA, made from 9310 alloy and the quality shows as you can see by the components and their like new appearance!

Thank you bud! And exactly, I expected to break something after the locker install but that D30 held together tough and after looking at the shape of the Torq Locker after the 10 months I was very surprised with how new it still looked! I definitely think the D30’s have a low expectation and our cases have proven that!

Thanks for checking out my video freeidaho! And yeah I try to give my first impressions and need to get around to more of my long term reviews, but I definitely agree having time under your belt to give user feedback is important! So to your note, it depends on the gear ratio that you have, my 3.73 gears cause an interference with the cross pin to be removed so I’m my case it was necessary to remove the ring gear but may not be for all cases.

So if you do not have the interference between the cross pin and ring gear then yes you should be able to install one side at a time starting with the ring gear side. Great job on the review and install video! Most guys would put a locker in the rear first as opposed to doin the front. But your situation required front install. I'm going the same route with the Bumble Jeep (Torque lockers) just not sure if front or rear will be first. Might just bite the bullet and do both at the same time. God bless and stay well.

Thanks a lot Project Bumble Jeep! Yeah, stupid grenaded spider gears! I definitely think Torq Masters Torq Locker is a very quality locker where I have heard of a lot of unsatisfied customers from other auto-locker or lunch box style locker brands. I think you will enjoy them when you get them front, rear or both! Definitely a tough call on where to start tho, best of luck to you and your installs when the time comes!

Hey there Dukain, thanks for checking out my video! So from the little bit of research, I did I found a decent number of people having issues with the spartan locker and customer support was not great. Now I cannot speak to Spartan more than what I have heard, but I know that Torq Masters is manufactured in the US, they have great quality and customer service! Also, if you go through Northridge4x4 and use Northwest Jeepcast's discount code I think the cost is better, not talking about free and quick shipping! Check out NWJEEPCAST on IG, KZfaq, and their Podcast! They provide their discount code in their podcast, and they always have great content in each of their shows! What do you mean with clearances? do you mean while I am wheeling or with the install of the Torq locker?

I'm on the fence with getting one for my YJ, how is it on the street when just in 2x4? I bypassed the vacuum disconnect
@VictorVectorJKU
@VictorVectorJKU 8 ай бұрын
The torq locker does not impact driving in 2-wheel drive except for extremely tight turns on dry pavement. Unless you engage 4 wheel drive it will be very similar operation to an open differential. You will hear a clicking noise and occasionally a pop but this is normal operation of the auto locking feature. The vacuum disconnect being bypassed would not impact the function.

So I, off and on, would daily drive my Jeep with the Torq Locker and it did just fine for me! It comes down to what you are looking to achieve! If you need more traction in the desert and a front locker is the place to put it then I think it would be just fine for you.

Great job on the video. @ 9.53 it looks like the cross pin is loose. Can you comment please? Thank you.
@VictorVectorJKU
@VictorVectorJKU 2 жыл бұрын
So I am not sure I would say it’s loose, there is a spring pin that holds it in place. Rather the tolerance of the hole in the carrier that it interfaces with the rod is in question. I am not sure if that is in spec or not. I cannot remember during my initial installation what the fit was of this rod. It could be wear and tear based on running 37x12.50r17 tires and the wheeling I do but this did not cause any issues as long as I ran the locker. Good observation tho and thanks for checking out my video Ray!

I noticed the locker is beating the crap out of the carrier , through pin hole was out of round and pin was slapping around . But was happy to see how well the locker was holding up. so that's one thing I was worried about gone, but I was told the locker makes the jeep walk sideways on ice and wet roads. any truth to that? I really want to put front and rear lockers in. not building a rock crawler , just something to play on dirt/mud trails with. thanks for the video.
@VictorVectorJKU
@VictorVectorJKU 2 жыл бұрын
Hey there RVMagnum, thanks for checking out my video! I definitely noticed the same thing but I am not sure if that was solely based on the locker or if the carrier pin was getting worn earlier on even with the open carrier. So to your question, I am not sure about wet or icy roads since the locker would only be engaged in four-wheel drive being in the front axle and I wouldn’t engage four wheel drive for those conditions. I personally recommend a selectable locker for a rear axle if you will be installing this in a daily or something that will see road miles. But for the front locker I definitely recommend the Torq Locker! But if it will be a mainly dedicated trail right then Torq Lockers front and rear will be great!

9:52 are you talking about this time stamp? I've never pulled apart a diff before, despite my confidence that I could do it. Is that amount of "slop" with the carrier pin normal?
@VictorVectorJKU
@VictorVectorJKU 5 ай бұрын
@banzaiib yes that is the correct time stamp for the slop on the carrier pin. I am not sure if there is supposed to be any slop at all with this pin. I imagine what you are seeing in my axle is more than desirable.

Are there any draw backs putting this locker on a Daily driver?
@VictorVectorJKU
@VictorVectorJKU 27 күн бұрын
Hey there Patissondom, thanks for checking out my video. I would say it depends on your vehicle and if you plan to put it front or rear. If you have a vehicle with 4WD and it is in the non-drive axle, you will only notice clicking on tight turns on dry pavement, however if you put it on the drive axle you will notice handling changes. When shifted into 4WD is when the locker becomes active if in the non-drive axle and power is applied to the it. If you have an AWD then you will notice handling changes likely all the time depending on if you put it front or rear. I do not know the handling characteristics for a rear axle application but for mine in a 4WD and installed in the front axle, I saw no issues with it for my jeep when I daily drove it.

Hi VictorVector. I have little bit strange question. My rear DANA 44 Limited Slip differential is dying. Do you suggest to rebuild the LSD, or install launchbox type differential. I would like to swap it with TORQ MASTER launch box. What extra parts I should buy in addition to the TL14430 set of gears? Some extra info. Car is for regular driving to work and shopping. Thanks in advance for any information.
@VictorVectorJKU
@VictorVectorJKU Жыл бұрын
Hey there Alexei, thanks for checking out my video! So being a daily driver I would recommend rebuilding the LSD. If you go with the torq locker you will have the locker engaged 100% of the time being the drive axle and you will notice it. It will ratchet and cause your tires to scrub on turns. I think the factory LSD requires a new carrier assembly to be installed, I don’t believe they can be rebuilt but I could be wrong. I would also say the ring and pinion may not need to be replaced but proper re-gearing procedures should be followed with a new carrier install. I hope this helps!

Hey there Ruptrain, thanks for checking out my video!! So I didn’t 100% daily my Jeep but I did drive it a lot on the highway. @@VictorVectorJKU I am stumped, I did a spartan locker in the front axle. I changed ball joints, axle seals, and added out seals. Now it wonders and is very sensitive over 50. When i come out of the throttle it unloads to the front passenger side. So i started with alignment. Front toe was out so I went 1/16th toe in and track bar was off 1/2inch so I adjusted it. Seems a little better but still doing and feeling the same. Ive thought about adding another 1/16th of toe but I’m stumped any help or ideas would be appreciated
@VictorVectorJKU
@VictorVectorJKU Жыл бұрын
Ah I see, I am not sure how spartan lockers direct you to test to ensure the install is correct unlike torque masters spin test. But even though the “unloading” you mention doesn’t make me think this could be the issue I would still recommend reviewing all your joints for steering and suspension. I just made a video of how to review for ball joint and wheel hub diagnostics as well as your steering joints. Go check those out to help identify if that could be an issue! Otherwise it sounds like the locker could be the issue.

How come you didn’t put the torque locker in the rear? It’s stronger.
@VictorVectorJKU
@VictorVectorJKU Жыл бұрын
Hey there Jeepin-herandthere, thanks for checking out my video!The primary reason is I daily drive my Jeep when I want to and I did not want to hear the ratcheting or cause the tires to scrub on corners while driving as it would be more noticeable in the rear since that axle is driving power. Also my rear end was the factory limited slip and different from the open carrier so I couldn’t just swap a torq-locker in the rear like the front. I would have to swap the carrier as well and that would mean re-gearing.
