The hood on my 2010 JK has started to fade out. The clear coat is failing. I was thinking about what I could do without having to have a new paint job done. This is exactly what I was thinking!! Looks great! Curious how it has held up?

Hey there Ryan, thanks for checking out my video! This could definitely be a solution for you. I am in progress of doing a review of how it held up. I just pulled it off in May of this year and it held up really well! I might have that video up in a few weeks but I was definitely happy with it. Teaser, I did update to a vinyl wrap that I replaced the plastic-dip with and used cutting tape to make a similar but updated look!

Did you have any issues with it wanting to bind up in tight turns? Mines been installed for a few months but it just wants to bind up occasionally while in tight turns. The center gap was within specs per instructions.
@VictorVectorJKU
@VictorVectorJKU 9 күн бұрын
Hey Joe, thanks for checking out my video! I do not think I ever ran into binding issues when in tight turns. With you mention of being within spec, that does take away one thought of mine. My second thought might be if you have standard axle shafts with U-Joints in the knuckle ends. I have seen people bind their axles shafts with the steering stops set too far back and allow the U-Joints to bind. You could look and see if there is a shiny part in the ear of the u-joints and that would signify that being the issue. Otherwise, I would recommend reaching out to TorqMaster and see if they could help being the OEM of the product. They are super helpful and great to work with!

@@VictorVectorJKU When I performed the spin test, while spinning one wheel it will ratchet fine and then try to act like the locker is engaged and spin the other wheel too. If I spin one tire real slow, it will always lock up and spin both at the same time. I've been debating on pulling it out and going back to open diff but I love the locker when I'm offroading. On the road its fine just when I'm making a sharp turn then it starts binding and bucking the jeep 😕
@VictorVectorJKU
@VictorVectorJKU 9 күн бұрын
Ah ok, I did not understand your diagnosis before but now I get what is happening I think. So when you are taking a normal corner you will hear and maybe slightly notice the small ratcheting of the torq locker however when you take sharp corners you are getting a more dramatic unloading than the typical ratcheting after a slight bind. I did have that happen and I would know it’s going to happen on dry pavement typically only at slow speeds in parking lots. At times initially I would be concerned but I came to realize this is just normal function of the locker. I did my best to not put myself in scenarios of tight turns on pavement even tho they do happen. So if this is typical driving conditions for you and it is something you are uncomfortable with, then perhaps going back to an open front end might be right for you. I would still reach out to TorqMasters and get their input, they may have ideas to help reduce this.

Are there any draw backs putting this locker on a Daily driver?
@VictorVectorJKU
@VictorVectorJKU 3 ай бұрын
Hey there Patissondom, thanks for checking out my video. I would say it depends on your vehicle and if you plan to put it front or rear. If you have a vehicle with 4WD and it is in the non-drive axle, you will only notice clicking on tight turns on dry pavement, however if you put it on the drive axle you will notice handling changes. When shifted into 4WD is when the locker becomes active if in the non-drive axle and power is applied to the it. If you have an AWD then you will notice handling changes likely all the time depending on if you put it front or rear. I do not know the handling characteristics for a rear axle application but for mine in a 4WD and installed in the front axle, I saw no issues with it for my jeep when I daily drove it.

It is your understanding that their simulated beadlock rings won't hold up to trail use? I was hoping to run an internal beadlock with wheels that have a sacrificial rock ring. Perhaps DL's ring manufacture could make a set that will withstand trail use? I am trying to get double-beadlocks for cheaper than standard outer beadlocks.
@VictorVectorJKU
@VictorVectorJKU 7 ай бұрын
Hey there JD, thanks for checking out my video! So the plastic did not seem extremely durable or capable of handling impacts. If the plastic ring breaks you could start to have the bolts grab on obstacles such as boulders or roots and cause damage to the threaded mounting holes for the bead lock ring. So for your intent of setting up a double bead lock I am curious what you are looking at for the internal ring to create the double bead lock? Typically with a double bead lock you need a wheel that separates at the center to accommodate this. The dirtylife wheels still have the traditional pneumatic styling so you could not use a conventional ring with this to make a double bead lock. I hope this information is helpful!
@JDMyers351
@JDMyers351 7 ай бұрын
@@VictorVectorJKU oh I'm under no illusion that a plastic ring would hold up. It would have to be steel or alum. Search for coyote enterprises for a bladder type internal beadlock. These can be run on any wheel but I'd like to not thrash my wheels the first trip out. I wheel pretty hard. So being able to replace the rings when they are thrashed while protecting the wheel itself would be ideal. But I need it to be cheaper than a standard beadlock setup.
@VictorVectorJKU
@VictorVectorJKU 7 ай бұрын
Ok I have heard of the bladder style offering, never heard anything on how they hold up though. And makes sense on the bead-lock ring to be used as a rash ring instead. I would just confirm the ability to run the bladder with the dirtylife wheels if there is anything that needs to be considered. I am curious, do you have issues currently with losing your inner bead on bead lock wheels currently? That is pretty uncommon issue unless you are running under 5 psi on rocks and such or possibly 0-2 psi and running in snow. You might find that a standard single (outer headlock) would suffice.
@JDMyers351
@JDMyers351 7 ай бұрын
@@VictorVectorJKU I have never lost a bead in the 20 years I have wheeled with my champion beadlocks, but they are 15's with 35's. I want to go to 37's on 17's. The issue is that a beadlock wheel is so expensive. So the option to turn any wheel into a beadlock is appealing, but then I'd like to keep them nice, hence the rash ring. I may not have my cake and eat it too in this situation.
@VictorVectorJKU
@VictorVectorJKU 7 ай бұрын
With that being the case, unless you see the need to run a double bead lock I would suggest the single. Also the Dirtylife wheels to replace the plastic ring with steel or aluminum will likely end up the same cost as a bead lock if not more. I would suggest finding something you like the appearance of and going that route. That’s my opinion though.

Thanks bro. Good how-to. Wiring the Mopar or Lasfit AUX switches is the same way, wire-to-wire as they don’t have a box like you. Otherwise, using ARB supplied switches and harness is unnecessarily complex, but not difficult to do.

I'm on the fence with getting one for my YJ, how is it on the street when just in 2x4? I bypassed the vacuum disconnect

The torq locker does not impact driving in 2-wheel drive except for extremely tight turns on dry pavement. Unless you engage 4 wheel drive it will be very similar operation to an open differential. You will hear a clicking noise and occasionally a pop but this is normal operation of the auto locking feature. The vacuum disconnect being bypassed would not impact the function.

Keeping the bead of the tire down in the drop center of the wheel makes things 100x easier. I like to start with a knee on the sidewall at 6 o clock and then start working at 12 o clock. There will be a tire iron sized gap between the bead seat and bead of the tire as you start working your way around, grab the bead there with the iron and Bob’s yer uncle.

I have a question for you experts in the 4x4 sector! (and I would like to know if you can tell me if it is true that the ironman nitro gas shock absorbers go well with the original set-up and can be adapted with the +5? I have a Suzuki jimny 4x4 with m13a 1.3 l petrol engine with shock absorbers and standard settings, yesterday afternoon I picked up the new ironman nitro gas shock absorbers and the 4x4 spare parts dealer in Florence told me that these ironman nitro gas shock absorbers are ok for 4x4 off-road vehicles with stock trim or in a second you could put the springs higher and it becomes a +5 high trim is that true? Greetings from Florence Italy!)
