Removing the ball joints on a crusty, 40+ year-old Dana 44 axle is straightforward, but not always easy. I highly recommend a press, even if it's just a small, cheap 12-ton, it saves a load of effort. Otherwise you'll need a ball-joint press tool.

Ah the old Harbor Freight press, I have one, started leaking the first day I got it 15 years ago. Still works though as long as you keep oil in it. Just a thought on using the castle nut to hammer on, works better and is easier on the nut to turn the castellated side down. Enjoyed the show!

I've had this one for several years, and I've been surprised at how useful it's been. Sometimes I wish it were larger, and often I think the frame is a bit sketchy, but it's generally done everything I've needed and it was cheap.

@@YoshimoshiGarage I just did my bad side earlier tonight, went pretty smoothly. Tomoro I’ll do the other side because I have the parts and I’m already down to the backing plate for a brake job…
