I'm sure most of you are wondering: "What is this musical? And why should I care about it?"
Well, this is actually one of the most famous european musicals, which was never released in english (except for a really crappy Broadway-version where they changed so much that it can hardly even be called the same musical). And since there is no HQ-version with english subs available, I decided to make one myself, just like I did with the Monte Cristo-musical back when I started this channel.
I know this musical doesn't have anything to do with Ink Potts, but I hope some of you will still give it a chance, especially if vampires are something that interests you.
So what is it about? A professor and his student are going to Transylvania to find out if vampires are real. Jup, that's basically the story in a nutshell ^^
Personally this is one of my favorite musicals ever, I just love the characters, the humor and the story itself, but especially the atmosphere is just fantastic. Not to mention that it has some fantastic pieces of music. There's also some parallels to the Dracula-musical, so if you liked that one, I'm pretty sure you can enjoy this one as well (though this musical takes itself much less seriously).
A good friend of mine, StupidFlyingXXFOX, saw this musical live recently and also fell in love with it, so she decided to ponify it.

Broadway failed the assignment to translate it. It comes off more comedic in the English and isn't serious when it's supposed to be.

@@MystraRavenwind It's not even that they failed to translate it, but that they didn't *just* translate it. They changed the entire show. The other foreign productions are mainly just straight-up translations of the original. The Broadway version isn't an English-language TdV, it's a completely modified show. I kinda wish they would do a proper English version. Perhaps on West End, to keep in Europe.

Damn, MLP made me find out about musicals that I didn't even know existed. First, Jekyll & Hyde. Then, the Count of Monte Cristo. Then Dracula. And now this one. You're welcome! =) I always try my best to reply to every comment, and since my channel is not that big, it's not too difficult ^^ You shouldn't be disappointed if you don't get replies from big channels, it's totally natural that 90% of all those comments are burrowed under a sea of new comments and therefore quickly forgotten.

It is unfortunate the American version was as poorly done as it was, I would love to see this in person but unless I happen to be in Europe at a time that it is playing it will likely not happen.

Yeah, it's such a shame. All they had to do is follow the original plot and songs, but for some weird reason they decided to change everything into a pure comedy with mostly different-sounding songs -_- Don't change what isn't broken!

I was at the premiere in 2000 in Stuttgart as part of the Sales team of Stella Entertainment, Polanski giving us an autograph being not very kind about being bothered lol. It was a great Show. Our Musicals in Germany and the theaters had an excellent quality then. Still did not surpass my favorite European musical MOZART.

@@CountMonsparkle We can blame Michael Crawford for this. They decided to cast him as Count Krolock, but feared it would be seen as him playing the Phantom Of The Opera all over again, and so he asked to make the role (and by extension, the play) as comedic as possible.

Yeah, and I would go so far as to say that this butchered production is to blame for why America stays away from european musicals in general. They probably think they would flop too despite the fact that it was them changing Dance of the Vampires so much that it flopped to begin with =/

I could kiss you for uploading this! I've been periodically searching for the full Estonian version for years since that's the one I remember from childhood, but the German one is just as enjoyable, even though the songs sound strange at first. The production of the German version is also very high-quality, and more enjoyable than the Estonian one tbh ❤️

Hey, out of curiosity, anyone know where this recording comes from? Like it's obviously been professionally shot, but it not an official proshot by the looks of it. I know there's like rehearsal recordings of stuff, inhouse video and I think the Antwerp recording of Elisabeth was a cast gift that someone leaked online. Anyone know anything about this one?

LOVED THIS! Thanks so much for the English Subs. I used to live in Germany (Many years ago) and if you don't use it, you lose it. While I understand a word or two, I couldn't grasp it all. (Not that I would need to cause the acting is SO WELL DONE that you can feel the emotion through that alone) Just curious though...does ANYONE know where I can watch this full version play but with Jan Ammann as Krolock? Simply LOVED his take on it and would love to watch it all the way through with him as the lead. (Nothing against Tarte, as his acting was superb, just curious is all)

I discovered this musical like 5 years ago now and since I saw it first here on youtube, a recording with Drew Sarich with english subtitles, I totally fell in love, I am a fan of vampire stories, and this is such a lovely story told in songs and music, so it really like instantly became my favourite musical and it still is to this day. :) And Kevin Tarte is my favourite German count von Krolock, I just love the sound of his voice. :)

@Anjelica Snorcket I know, when I said German I meant that they sing in the language. :) And Ivan is awesome in both languages, thought it is rather funny, being able to sing more naturally in Russian, he's just so much more intimidating in his native language when you listen to the recordings. :D

@Anjelica Snorcket Yeah, I agree, I think it looks much better when you see Krolock perched at the top of the spiral staircase, singing his part, and then he just elegantly descends down, the new, straight staircase they use is just lazy. :D my top 3 for German Krolocks is Kevin, Drew and Florian Soyka, he has a lovely, soft voice that I love to listen too. :) but I really love other language versions too, each is a bit different and it's great to compare them. :) We finally got our own Czech version a few years back, I was really thrilled about it. :)

@Anjelica Snorcket Yeah, I saw the recording here on youtube, and wow, I mean it has a few good moments, but overall I was a bit shocked at how bad it actually was, the attempts at comedy were just so cringy. :D and yep, it's an amazing musical, after I first saw it, I was so sad there wasn't a Czech version of it that I spent several months putting together the Czech subtitles, with the official recording from Hamburg with Kevin. :) it was at times difficult and kinda frustrating, but so rewarding when I finally finished it. :) I am working on a revised version now. :) I must admit, I get a bit obsessed with the musical sometimes, I just really love it. :D

I won’t deny that this musical is good because it really is. It’s not a favorite of mine by any means but I love the music and Herbert with his gay ways 🏳️‍🌈 this is way better than the shitty Broadway version. I don’t understand why Micheal Crawford had so much creative input on the book of the show because he’s one of the main reasons it’s basically a different musical. If he didn’t want to play a role so similar to the Phantom he could have you know...declined to play Count Von Krolock instead of changing his whole character.
