The film explores the importance of the Christian Church, recent successes in securing Tribal lands, and the need for Tribal youth to get active to hold on to what is theirs.

My maternal grandmother is mixed with Lenape and let me say, the look is uncanny. As for the Gould, he's from Gouldtown, NJ. An old settlement of "creole " people. My grandmother is also a descendent of the Gould's by way of the Pierce's (Louetta). Funny story, on the train one thanksgiving, going home and this green eyes, tan skinned "blackish" man asks if I'm from Gouldtown. Didnt know what he meant then until years later when my grandmother brought it up out of the blue. Very good video. These people look like my people.

My maternal grea Grandmother was Lenape She married a German Hoepner (Hoffner) The Goulds and the Peirces are often of mixed race. Indian, BlaSt John Methosdist churchck & White. They, much like the Cherokees adopted the practices of the European Settlers and many melded into the Mainstream. I knew this from an early age. South jersey had so many Indian Villages. For the most part everyone got along. many from South jersey joined with Iriquiois and thence to oklahoma. I wish them all the best. I respect them and wish them well. Incidently my Grandfather Preached at Fordville Methodist Church (St. Johns) four of his daughters, one was my Mom, would sing in harmony there.

However I have lived in Scotland since I was a few months old baby. I would love to learn about my heritage and be able to live back within the tribal community at one point in my life. Any pointers on how to do this would be much appreciated. One love from me and mine to you and yours :)

My family tree contains at least two ancestors from the Lenni-Lenape. One is from the Counsellor family of Delaware - my Counsellor ancestors moved from Delaware to Salem, New Jersey very late 1700s or very early 1800s. One is connected to the Luker family of Toms River (river named after either "Indian Tom" or Tom Luker.) I am almost done reading C.A. Weslager's The Delaware Indians A History and look forward to learning more and visiting places related to this aspect of my heritage.

While it was true that we did use stereotypical regalia back in the 70s and 80s. Lodges across America now contact and work with there local tribes to promote there culture and quash Hollywoods diction of native Americans. On the national level we have committees of indigenous people who have the final say on all regalia and ceremonial decisions. My lodge for example is in ohio in shawnee territory and we use shawnee style regalia in our dances and ceremonies, I advise you to update your information.

Excellent video. I am so glad to see you are finally getting some results from your hard work. I have been studying the Lenape tribe for several years. I noticed that the people portrayed in this video fit very well the physical descriptions written by those Europeans who first interacted with the Lenape. It's important for us all to learn about the original people of this country. A beautiful people and culture. Nine to eleven thousand years of success. I think we might learn something.
@StevenOsburnHollywood
@StevenOsburnHollywood 7 жыл бұрын
The physical description was tall and slim. They don't look like us. Wannabe Cherokees have the same BS story. If they hid and didn't come with us they don't deserve to be members of the tribe. And don't give me the "My great grandma was ashamed of being Indian." I've heard that one too many times. There was no place for them to hide from all the white people who took our land. Impossible. I don't believe any of them are Lenape.

Good to see you're still a cohesive group no matter who commingled into the bloodline through the centuries. Being a descendant of south Jersey colonials pre the English invasion (Swede/Finn), there has always been a rumor of native blood in the family. With the easy access of DNA testing it has been proven. It's small but there non the less. IF, big IF you lose about half of your DNA with each succeeding generation then our full blood ancestor would be back in the early to mid 1700's. I will say that we are descended from "Mary Pearce (Pierce) of Cohansy" as she is listed in genealogy records, whom married into the Cattell line in the early 1700's. It's also rumored that Jonas Cattell the Runner, born 1756, was half blood. All this and a buck seventy five will get you a coffee at WaWa......lol. We did dance with some of you back in the '80's after you warmed the drum head up at our fire at a county event. Rip Butch, you were a good guy.

The Ramapough are Munsee. We're documented back to before 1640 in what was to become Connecticut. Under Sachem Katona, grandson of Sachem Ponus and son of Onax the Elder, the land was sold. The Ramapough moved north and west. Sachem Tapgow, the son of Ponus, signed most of the land deeds in North Jersey and Southern New York. The Munsee in Northern Jersey, Western Connecticut and Southern NY were all related. It makes me laugh to hear people who are mixed to mostly white out west to try and justify their existence by attacking the people they spring from. All you have is Fed Rec and casinos. We don't need anyone to recognize us to "exist". Your ancestors ran from the east to escape the Colonials centuries ago..that means you lost your claims to the east. Hows that for reality?

Why is there is so much hate? I was raised in Virginia and I also was taught that all the Indians were moved to the west and I believed them. I am blonde and blue eyed but that does not take away from who I am, what is in my heart, and how I feel. My great grandfather was a French trader and moved west. But from the time I was little I have been drawn to the traditions of my people. I have a sister who is Lakota, Sioux and a grandmother who is also. Get rid of the chip on your shoulder, learn the ways and listen to you elders about hate and forgiveness, and that we are all made by the creator and should all show the respect, pride, generosity, that we are taught. If you think all tribes are fair, dark, black hair, etc you need to travel the U.S. and learn your history. I really feel sorry for those that carry so much anger and hate in their heart because it only dystroys the beauty you have within. pahaska

People are spreading lies about Indigenous Americans, like our DNA doesn't show our distinct lineage. Exclusively Native American markers appear in all First Nations groups across North and South America. Many genetics studies have been done on American First Nations, showing 2 very distinct markers only First Nations people share, which markers show up in all First Nations from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego. There are 4 more markers that are exclusive to the Americas, which are distributed among Indigenous peoples in different regions of the Americas. All these markers trace back genetically - by tracking actual base-pair mutations, to NE Asia. No European genetic markers appear in America among people without known Colonist descent, though there are 17 or more such markers in Europe. African markers, those which identify Africans as opposed to Europeans, do not appear in Native Americans without known African ancestry. Don't be fooled. For instance, read Cavallo-Sforza et al., Genetic Map of Human Migration.

When I see huge amounts of blood haired blue eyed 90% European people comprising what us now know as “Native American” is honestly extremely disappointing

In terms of a lot of East Coast tribes, majority of them are mixed. It is simply a result of colonization. After the native population decreased, many of the natives remaining in the region were absorbed into non-native communities. Versus some tribes out West who have many full blood members remaining since their consistent contact with outsiders occurred much later in comparison to those on the East Coast.

Don’t listen to the afrocentrist conspiracy theorists who believe all native peoples pre colonial were sub Saharan Africans. Science geography all prove them wrong. There are a lot of full blood native Americans don’t believe what anyone says. Just look to the hopi, the Zapotec, the lakota the Dakota and nakota. The ho chunk and literally all of Oklahoma. Tons of them, looking just as the ancestors did.

In the East, people were pressured more into assimilation. Leave or assimilate- those were your options. During the settlement times, young women were sometimes (apparently it wasn't very uncommon) traded into marriage for land rights. I am a white descendant of one of these women. From my perspective, I am trying to learn as much as I can about my Lenape ancestor because she gave everything in order to help her people under the guise of peace and land rights. Without her, my white family wouldn't exist. I feel that it's important to recognize and support native people on the East to regain their heritage and identity, and to recognize the sacrifices their ancestors made, no matter what people's skin tones are.

connor connor this is a very nuance filled issue. Firstly, many black people in America are indigenous to America. One of the biggest lies told is that all of the Black people that are here, were brought over on ships for slavery. A vast segment of the population was already present. Why do you think the government labeled Indians as black? The original native American is the black man. That may come as a shock. But oh well. The truth is staring EVERYONE right in the face. Many simply choose to ignore the obvious!

There are black people in America with Native ancestry because of the amalgamation of indigenous people and Africans. I don’t know why black people will run from their African heritage. There were no black tribes in the entire America’s before the Mali Empire expedition. The vast majority of blacks, out ancestors were brought here during the Triangular slave trade. In the northeast blacks were freed a lot earlier. Some before the founding of the US when the Dutch occupied those areas. All black people have African ancestry

They went north for a while but then went to east coast. Cherokee stories all said they came across water for 3 days after a mountain caught fire (volcano). They traveled west, north and east. Then they traveled west on the trail of tears.

Native people will come back, it's a circle, we are spiritual people not religeous not of religions. RELIGION is man made, it's a scam a lie to keep killing the real human beings. We need to learn common sense, we have been brainwashed by school, religion, tv, books, gov, etc. It's a shame how we forgot what is truly Sacred. Sacred things in this world are what Spirituality is all about. Another word for Sacred is Vital for Survival. So all the things Vital for Survival are Sacred to human beings of all tribes of all colors. But RELIGION teaches the opposite. The rotten political system is another scam that uses force on the people to enslave society it benefits the 10% and enslaves the 90%. We live in a fascist system, we are bullied by dictators, there is no democracy in this rotten political system. They have brainwashed society into modern slaves , you are living to pay , you are a slave without chains & shackels so you don't see it. Welcome to the Rat Race System imposed upon us by force by the euro system of government. This is a Crime against Humanity. The real big crooks are in Washington dc and all those who work along with them to keep this system going. We must become AUTONOMOUS again. See Cheran Michoacan for more info. See how we are going back to being free people again. Purepecha Tribe from Cheran Michoacan.

The Pequots never proved they were a tribe, never produced an old roll of members, and never had a continues government-to-government relationship as required by law to become a federally recognized tribe. This group never had a continuous relationship with the federal government because they are not Lenni Lenape. We all moved away and they gave us smallpox blankets before anyone else, and we signed the first treaty with the colonist.

The problem is is that you still all have a big chip on your shoulder. Crazy Horse was ver fair strawberry colored hair 2 full bloode Shoshone husband wife and dark just had a blonde blue eyed baby ask me how I handled it another young man said his Neice was born the same. Lakota grandmother sister in law fair my Iroquois grandmother fair All INDIANS which I will call u are in asta and the Middle East do your History because long before mayflower the elders new of fair children and people some thought they had special powers you are not all black hair brown eyed and never over 1000 yrs were so dream on. I know who I am where I came from who my ancestors were and I don't need you who don't have a clue telling me who and what I am. I dare you to tell these total full bloods their babies aren't theirs. I guess I could always die my hair and be mean but I'll choose to be nice except all mixed see what kind of spirit is in their hearts how they behave if they have any respect for everyone and then I'll judge. Besides like my Aunty said Michelle war will come and you are a warrior woman but for our benefit you can move between both worlds. She is Lakota. Work together as one you might get more achieved!

The government is going to get harder on identifying native populations. it will be harder to be recognized as it will be seen as a measure of not being valid or whole. this is what it has always been. a measure of not being a person or worth or importance of worth.
