You already know whats up starting to tap into videos . Music video and film are tough for me as a dancer because when you work on choreography night and day you dont want to see pieces of movement lost . Which is why I respect them for doing dance practice videos so you can see everything thank you all for the love and support hope y’all enjoy this videoI do my best to give y’all real review from my perspective.

the choreographer is the young lady in the center front during the first shot. She was 19!!! They did this in LA. I like both kinds of shots. I love seeing dance practices or lives, because you get to see the whole choreography. if you get a chance, watch BTS on Jimmy Fallon; they did this live at Grand Central Station. It was fire!! Thanks as always! 💜

I agree with your reaction. 😘 I will however say that when you use a static location, only one place, they need to create movement. If it is only close ups it gets repetitive. This is specific to MV's. They need to move and they have a pace that is faster. Which is why so many videos have tons of cuts. Different than a live performance. When you cut between long shots( this was shot with drones which was a new concept for them) and close ups it creates tension and release just like dance. It's like being completely still and then moving. I think the more you shoot dance you will start to understand the cutting and why they do it at certain spots. I do love that you get it. It's so different than shooting stage. It's like it's own choreography. You should watch the making of to get an idea. It will spark your creativity. 😘 It's shot at the Sepulveda Dam in CA. The girl in the very first shot dead center is the choreographer. Sienna Lalau from The Lab. I just love when you review BTS stuff. Thank you. 😘💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Well said. MVs aren't always for showcasing dance. They're for storytelling. You'll find that BTS sometimes film a separate choreography version of videos where the shot is more static and close up so dance moves can be highlighted. An example of this is the videos for Not Today. There's a regular MV and a choreography MV.

I think you’d really like seeing the behind the scenes of some of these dance practices and videos. It’s amazing to see how involved Bts is and how they don’t settle for anything other than perfection in their eyes. Also seeing the behind the scenes after their big performances is interesting to because they will be watching it back and critiquing, anything to make future performances better. They are on top for a reason, and they don’t forget what brought them there.

I believe the pan outs and wide screen shots are really important in this version. Remember that the video is titled Kinetic Manifesto. So the entire performance is about movement and varying kinetic formations, the pan outs show the viewer the entire troupe’s formation whilst they are in kinetic movement - and why that looks like a video game scene, they visually force a 3 dimensional group of people to look like they are dancing in a 2 dimensional plane. The choreo is a massive constant moving group marching in and out of constantly changing formations, it really is a manifesto to kinetics. Great reaction as always💜

I was listening to your instructions the entire 20:08 minutes and If I were to enroll to a dance class I would hope to find a teacher like you. I can guarantee myself that I would be able to overcome my frustrations in dancing if you're the one teaching. :) So, thank you for being true to your reaction. When it comes to BTS I love their MVs so much because its such a stress reliever. But their dance practices makes me happier because I've always wanted to be a dancer and they bring so much inspiration to me. I would say I love whichever shot they have, close to the camera or far that's simply because I love them. Thanks so much for this reaction. I don't get to watch channels like yours that breaks down everything about their dance and its just really inspiring to hear your thoughts about these boys. Lastly, hope you could react to their dance choreography of Airplane Pt.2. This is one of favorite songs from them. Here is the link to the video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i5iTmr192JOXcZs.html

I think they want some contrast w camera angles etc, especially if they're going to capture the marching band aspect of the choreo. Think how they show marching bands on TV or how they look if you're in the stands. The formations are also meant to be seen.

WE didn't lose anything ... it was a great MV and different people are looking for different things and BTS have NEVER been scared. They are bigger than your dance insecurity from any angle. Tidbit : Sienna Lalau did the choreo for the mv for BTS "ON: ...Manifesto.." official video: Sienna Lalau, from the LA area, did this when still in her teens. She appears in the video leading the dancers up front & center at the beginning of the video. Sienna also choreographed BTS's "Dionysius" performance dance (watch it live, amazing). Sienna Lalau also did the choreo for J-hope's Chicken Noodle Soup and is also dancing in it (see shorter girl with the yellow/black outfit with the other 3 dancers near the beginning.

I don’t know or didn’t see anyone point out that when RM is dancing in front of the line and they do that ripple or as they turn, they are following RM’s movement. If you watch his shoulders he rolls them as the ripple starts then when he spin his finger in the air the dancers spin as well. I don’t know how to put in the time points but I think I described the scene enough for you to understand. Just thought you would appreciate that a bit more since you are big on the following of the movements between the artists and dancers. Not that they aren’t all artists. They did a beautiful job with this video, especially with the heat of the day they were dealing with.

With BTS the cinematography, like the dance, is always in service of the underlying message of the music & lyrics which are rarely surface level. I think the reasoning behind the longer shots in this mv is that they are referencing the shadow. When the camera pulls away the emphasis is on the formations and execution of their shadows.

Yes you have to keep in mind who BTS is as a group, as a team, and as a family. They do all inclusive shots of the members. Then they have shots with them and the dancers. Then the closeup shots concentrating on who has a solo, vocal, dance, and/or rap. Everybody has their part in BTS videos. That's what I love about their videos...all aspects of the shots are well balanced and complimentary!

Hm...if i understood well... i think it was a great shot😂😂😂 On a more serious note as a dancer myself too I think it was perfectly recorded! If the attention was supposed to be on the formation it makes sense to have a wider shot, that's the information! If there were more intricate dance moves or a certain intention from the dancer and we need more intimacy then there were close-ups! I don't feel like we lost any information and it was beautifully shot from a dancer's perspective in my opinion!

As a visual I love the story and everything they do has intent. I commented this on your Black Swan video 3 weeks ago, but I’ll recommend it again, I think you’d like: 2020 MMAs Dynamite performance with an MJ inspired dance break that I don’t think you’ve seen: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/htqRg5eG0MCvqZc.html (12:57). I know you usually prefer to watch the dance practices but I think the performance video is especially magical, for me at least, even the outfits were MJ inspired. 2020 MMAs Dynamite dance practice: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q6iKi6ac3KmvqKs.html At the beginning of the first link I sent is also another version of Black Swan that’s completely different than the original choreography, they don’t sing. 2020 MMAs Black Swan dance practice: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y-Cpq8-C2dW1doU.html 2020 MAMAs ON performance with dance break I think you haven’t seen (1:40): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rtama7ODyMvXln0.html 2020 MAMAs ON dance practice: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bpejgdRlmq-YaKc.html Side note: Yoongi/Suga is not in these ones because he was recovering from shoulder surgery at the time.

This was filmed at the Sepulveda Dam in Los Angeles. The dancers are actually the world famous Blue Devils Drum Corp and towards the end of the video they use the UCLA Marching Band. There's a "behind the scenes/making of" video of this mv that shows how exhausting it was to make. All the BTS members agree this was the most difficult choreo they have ever done. This mv was filmed in one day.

I think the wide shots are on purpose. The whole choreo and song is inspired by marching bands. The transitions are a main part of the dance and the higher shots show off the formations well like the half-time shows at football games. I personally liked that they did well to show that in the MV. Also, I think Korean entertainment does amazing at making it feel like the camera is also part of the choreo. They are way ahead in that aspect. I don't think I have a favorite type of way BTS makes their videos. My opinion changes depending on the theme or concept for the music. Some of their videos are more about expression than choreography so there will be more close ups to see the boys emotion rather than the dance and vise versa. For example the difference between the MV for Dope (all choreo) vs Fake Love (more expression). Just my opinion. Great reaction btw!

I think the wide shots in this were not only to show the formations like you mentioned but also artistically/compositionally to show the setting, the balance of the blue sky and the concrete. To answer your question about what I prefer, I, like you, usually like the dance practices because you can see the work. I love to see them perform live because their stage presence is insane, but sometimes the camera work on live shows leaves me genuinely confused. Like, why make them work so hard on the choreography and then not show it? This is why I like fancams of live shows. I would say that I prefer to see as much of their bodies while still clearly being able to see their facial expressions. Seems like a cop out of answer but there it is lol. I honestly wouldn’t care if the camera work was static and “boring” because I’m not watching for the camera work.

My comment about where it was shot was entered too late for the Live chat ... don't know if you'll see it but yes, it was shot in the LA River Canal, my hometown, Los Angeles, California. Great eye @Donald Isom💜 I love dance but if you watch it up too close, you get to see your favorite dancer up close but if you're too close, you miss the power and beauty of the story being told. I understand that it would be boring if the camera is stationary so I get the up close AND further away POV. Further away to view the beauty, power, and grace of the movement of dancers as a whole (sum being bigger than the parts) but you miss the individual effort, facials, power, grace, and beauty; but up close, you see and feel the individual dancers' emotional expression of the music. In short, I like watching BTS' videos 8 or 9 times so I see them as a whole, then 7 times individually, then once again as a whole... Lol, it's called the BTS MV Trifecta🤣🤣🤣 For example, in BTS' performance of Butterfly I didn't see the formations because the camera was too close (in the perf. that I watched) so I wasn't all that impressed with the choreo... but when I saw the dance practice ... 😍😍 @Donald Isom, kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oNuTptefnrvTnp8.html

For BTS it depends on what song they are performing. For Black Swan, Butter, and Mic Drop, I like the camera to be still and capture everything. I feel like these 3 perfomances don't need close up and personal shots. For performances like Blood Sweat and Tears, DNA, and Save Me, they are wayyy better when the camera is very intimate and up close. It compliments the song and choreography more.

Agree wtih your thoughts about camera perspective. I hate shows that use "fancy" camera cuts and angles to "give dynamics" to a performance, nothing beats BTS in front of a single camera with no angles or cuts. Yes that is the dam for the river in LA, which is usually dry, I think it's called the Sepulveda Dam for the Los Angeles River. There is a shooting sketch for this, and a separate single-camera one-shot with no backup dancers, it was a practice where they were testing the drone camera controls. J-hope's solo pre-release More came out a few days ago. His choreo is mostly freestyle in it. This morning.they released the shooting sketch for it. Very interesting. One of BTS's most recent tracks is called Run BTS, on their new anthology album Proof. No video, no choreo. But very danceable. Wondering what you might do with it choreo-wise. It's powerful and I'm sure they have something waiting for it, but I want to see something now, lol. It's mixed-genre. Lots of chances to play.

I think what you don't quite get is that this isn't a dance performance. It's kinetic manifesto, meaning it's main objective is camera perspective in motion. Having close up shots in an open space for the entire video contradicts the kinetic intention. Therefore perepectives that are wider and farther are needed to create texture and motion. Again this is not a dance performance.
