At first sight, yes. But actually, they still need people to bring items in the store and control/manage/repair the whole system (fridge/camera/payment/...) For some people who likes minimum or zero human interaction, it can be great. For me, it's still a testing system for watching human behavior.

Plus, it’s a convenient store, prices are always higher (significantly higher). Also, it depends on the location of the stores. For example, prices inside an airport will be higher than other locations.

It’s also runs on human decency and fear of prosecution. Obviously I don’t know the laws there but I’ve heard Singapore is very strict when it comes to crime. If one of these store were here in the states, 8 out of 10 times people would just steal everyone there because there’s nothing to stop them. Even if there were workers, people would steal anyway. That’s just where we are at these days. That’s also why these videos whether in Korea/Japan/etc are so fascinating to me because I could never imagine these ides ever working here. It would also be cool if when scanning in, it said “Hello Mr. DancingBacons.”

I guess the downside of this is that there can be only one man shopping inside cause it does not know who to charge if there are multiple cards scanned?

@pkmnan00bis3 ай бұрын
Multiple people can be inside at the same time. The virtual cart they make for you has its own hidden ID. And they use the cart ID, card ID, and an item specific ID to track who picks up what and where with the sensors. It's similar to how card readers know which account to charge when you go through the regular checkout. Everyone has their own card, but the identifying information on the card is different for each person.

Real problem would be with identical looking twins...
@starskunk3 ай бұрын
@@garderork339 Stores like this use both camera and sometimes IR sensors - it does not track you by face or looks, it literally tracks you by location in the store. Once you scan in at the entrance, the computers at the entrance basically create a cart for you and tell the cameras/tracking systems, "track this specific person's location within the store from the moment they enter until the moment they leave". When you pick something up, it sees "Okay, customer XYZ has picked up this item, add it to their cart" using weight sensors in the shelf combined with your physical location in the store. This is why they also tell you before shopping at one of those stores is if you want to put something back, ALWAYS put it back yourself. Do not hand it to anyone else to put back, as without the cameras and weight sensors together seeing you putting the item back, you'll still be charged for it. But yes, multiple people can generally be inside one of these cashierless stores at a time in most cases.
@Darkk69693 ай бұрын

For Singapore this doesn't actually feel very technologically advanced. In Amazon's stores in the UK (admittedly they do have 1 or 2 members of staff there in case something goes wrong) but you can bring multiple people into the store with 1 account, and the technology will track both people at once, and you can pick up anything and return stuff anywhere in store - including individual, self-choose bakery items, and it is 100% accurate in it's billing. Also Amazon, have full sized stores.

I'm guessing it's using machine learning trained software to track what each person takes. That's technically AI, but yeah, they're mostly saying AI because that's the big new buzzword in business.
@Kaii-Kaii-DOAN3 ай бұрын
The main reason to ask people to put things back where they got it is to not create a mess in the store. I would assume there is some level of tracking customers with A.I. through the cameras so they don't have to pay people to stare at it all day, as well as tracking who uses what card in fraud cases. It makes sense if there is a basic program that just tracks what people pull off the shelf to actually charge the cards, but there also needs to be something to ensure that if multiple people are pulling stuff at the same time, they all do not get charged with other people's products. It makes no sense if only 1 person can be in the store at a time.
@Kaii-Kaii-DOAN3 ай бұрын
If this store were self check out it would be simpler, but even just allowing them to put stuff in the bag creates its own set off issues. There needs to be a check on what gets pulled off the shelf, who picked it up and then if it even leaves the store. I guess a scan at the pick up location and then one at the stalls would work. But again if people walk out too close to each other another problem may arise. Rush hour at this store would be a nightmare.

From a QA perspective, this was a very unimpressive test. Here's what you can try next time: - Sweep some shelves of items into your bag. See if the total count is correct. - Put back some items from your bag onto the shelves. See if the total count is correct. - Take some items (eg. drinks), put in a different shelf (eg. potato chips), come back for it later. See if it counts as the old item or the new shelf item. - Bring an identical product into the shop in your own bag (eg. Iced Lemon Tea?), take it out while in store, and using the same hand, take another of the same item from the shelf. See if it counts as 2. - Take many of the same time with one hand, drop 1 on the floor, put all but one in your bag, and put the last one from your hand on the floor while attempting to pick up the one on the floor. Pick up the one you dropped but kick the last one you put on the floor across the floor to another part of the shop. See if the AI can track all of these and count correctly when you leave the shop.

What if you take something really fast and put in the bag to not let the cameras see and detect the product? ¿Or there are sensor under each product in the shelf?

I went to one of these in an airport, forgot which one but it was in the state and I remember trying to trick it by picking things up and putting them back and being all over the store and when I left I checked my digital receipt and it was spot on correct 😂😂 I was so impressed
