What I see most of the American videos ignoring is the use of the rear brake. Getting my license in Germany currently and the way we're taught is to put constant pressure on the rear brake, apply a small amount of throttle and do everything else with the clutch, don't change throttle position or brake pressure unless absolutely necessary. I saw you were going 7mph during the slow straight line, if we went that fast it'd be reason enough to fail the test 😁. When you drag the rear brake it puts stress and resistance on the drivetrain, leading to a larger gyroscopic effect and therefore making the bine stay upright at lower speeds. Just FYI our guideline speed for the slow slalom/weave is around 3mph
@Mervolic
@Mervolic 3 жыл бұрын
Sounds pretty much like it is in Sweden. We’re not allowed to apply the rear brake though (only to regulate speed if absolutely necessary). About 3mph limit here too, although it’s only said to be “walking speed”, not any specific speed limit.

yeah the MSF in PA was crap. I swear they singled me out for being a first time rider and put me on the shittiest bike they had.. this bike was complete garbage... bent shift lever, bent handle bars, super clunky gears, loose throttle/brake cables, and a motor that sounded like it was rolling around on the frame.. couldn't do the offset weave or the tight 90 turns, managed to pass the class somehow..

Thank you +DanDanTheFireman tbh last month, April 2021 I paid the $300 to take the MSF Course and honestly I felt good halfway through the course but I was canceled out the course during the middle of the second day. The instructor had let me know that they didn’t have personal time to teach me, and the fact that I wasn’t catching it at the same speed as everyone else I was really defeated. I was registered for the Three-Wheeled Course and it starts in June and tbh I wish I had a teacher like you. I mean, I thought it was because I didn’t know how to successfully ride a bicycle, or thought it was because I was too big for the bike that I was given to start on. But I was doing great until the slow speed line with the friction zone and now I plan to get a small bike on my own and take my time into learning this on my own before I take the MSF Class all over again to get my Certification. Thank you so much

I see the title and think that maybe there should be a video, or section about the mindset, or addiction to wanting to go fast much of the time, especially on a fast motorcycle. Tips and tricks to catch and calm yourself from flying speeding around or mitigating road rage/the urge to pass everything slightly slower ;) . Slowing down way slower than someone going regular slow seems to help me, and just enjoy the scenery for a little bit. Giving people benefit of the doubt or leeway on their mistakes in your own head during the ride helps take some anger away maybe too.

ETA: LOL -- I guess I should watch the ENTIRE video before I ask my questions ... Because you just answered this at 20:40 I'm hoping I can get a response by an experienced rider. Question: When you say "Weave, but do not look at the cones", Is it because your vision should automatically see the cones as you're going without vision fixating the cones?
@A.sparks
@A.sparks 9 ай бұрын
At your very last weave, why do you say lean in or lean with bike? I thought it low speeds you were supposed to put weight on the outside foot peg to counter balance. Wouldn’t leaning in at slow speeds make the bike fall over? 21:39

Agreed, I learned riding on my 80cc 2 stroke dirtbike. And I just started riding a 500cc. Almost 3 times the weight. And when at low speed I don't feel like I'm in control at all. So I really relate to "feels like I have to learn every thing all over again".
@AussieTrucking
@AussieTrucking 2 жыл бұрын
YES! This is what people dont tell ya when moving up in cc. I learned on 300cc naked. I was able to throw that bike around extremely tight U-Turns. Now I moved up to a 650 adv and I cant get those u-turns. The only times I've dropped my bike is practicing on my 650. After my experiences with it I'm gonna move to a cruiser I like the low centre of gravity. I dont hate my ADV I love it, way more comfortable I ride 5hrs and not be sore compared to the 300.

Pretty thorough Dan. However, there may be one inconsistency: part 1, you squeezed the front brake lever first, BUT in part 2, the clutch lever was squeezed first. There should be consistency here. The Part 2 squence seems to be the right way. Then again part 1, was different from part 2. Also, these cone turns look difficult for a newbie. Should have used a much wider cone spread. Or, better still, no cones at all in an empty parking lot, riding, until you get used to just some riding. Then these cone manuevers.

4:20 or you live in Sweden where its literally illegal to practice, anywhere, including parking lots, and if you get caught your entire driving licence approval gets revoked, before you even got your licence. Yeah, its stupid beyond belief.. You basically cant practice outside of a driving school, at $100 per hour.
