Today we wanted to show you how there can be a lot of danger when logging in the woods! We had a very tricky tree that was caught up in another tree, and it took quite a lot to get get this tree down safely!
Watch our videos to learn about draft horses- horse logging, horses farming, and horse training! Jim uses Belgian, Percheron, and Suffolk horses to do work on the farm and in the woods. He teaches about harnesses, horse-drawn logging and farming equipment, horse feeding and maintenance, and voice commands for horses. New videos uploaded every week. Keep watching to see how Jim trains his new Suffolk Punch colts as he has trained his full-grown teams!

A lot of horses would spook if a chainsaw was operating right at their faces and limbs falling right at them. Not Jim's horses! He has trained them so well! However, I stayed on pins and needles watching this one. So happy you and the horses are safe!🥰 Brenda, I sure missed you manning the camera on this video! Hope you can come back for the next work day! Have a good weekend!

Hey Jim, that was all very tricky, also maneuvering that log out there! I so much enjoyed following every single step you did 😁 Brenda is definitely doing a fantastic job on filming! She's walking a lot when filming, always films at good angle and asks good questions! I think she deserves a complete video about her and you do the filming 😁😉 Glad that all went safe and well with that tree! Take care! -Chris

Logging and cutting down those trees... dangerous work. Did that with my husband. He was very careful like you. He kept an eye on me. My father in law worked horses all his life. They had a very large team - Bud and Bill. Don't remember what happened to one that it died but the other grieved itself to death. Enjoy your videos. Oh yes! Be sure to tell your work horses how good they are and what good workers they are. They deserve it. Love and prayers to you and your wife. Lynn

Hey Jim... if you haven't figured it out yet, your cart's stub axles should have the outer bearing retained with a castle nut and split pin. The split pin serves two functions, one is to prevent the nut from backing off as yours did and the other is to adjust out the play in the wheel bearings. It is customary to grease new bearings before installation. Palming the grease so that it fills the voids between rollers and cage is a popular way to achieve this. many how-to's on youtube! Love your videos... you and Brenda seem to have a unique working relationship!

Fantastic job done together out of that felling spot, those horses did well with just voice commands to become half partners in your logging business. Best of luck dropping those long pines, and what surprised me the most is when that tree finally hit the ground the horses on a short hook up didn’t think about being shook.
@WorkingHorsesWithJim
@WorkingHorsesWithJim Жыл бұрын
That is all true, unfortunately for some reason the axle is a little short. I drilled a hole through it, hoping to put a cotter pin in it but the nut wouldn't go on far enough to expose the hole. That is why I had to weld it

You have such a special bond with your horses Jim, They trust you completely and i am always amazed at how much those two horses can pull behind them. As dangerous as that situation was you still got that tree on the ground. I learned a lot from watching this video it is always enlightening watching you go about your day. It is great that Andy could come out today also to help with some chores on the farm which frees up your time to get more logs out onto the landing. As usual your horses did an outstanding job. Give them a good pat each for both of them i know you don't like giving them treats but if you have a couple of carrots i am sure they will like that kind of a treat. I think they earned it. I am sure Brenda would have closed her eyes at some of the things you filmed in this episode and your camera work wasn't too bad Jim. Stay safe and have a wonderful day.

An other youtuber (small farmer in sweden) said that the ultimate civilization is when a person can spend his/her whole life learning and practice oboe. Thats not really what the life as a farmer consists of. This is not my first language, so please excuse any errors in the text.

Ha ha as someone who TRIED to play the oboe in my high school band, I'd say that's a pretty funny statement. Even with private lessons to learn to play it, I had to go back to my original instrument, the clarinet, after a year. It's a very difficult instrument to learn to play. I always admire and appreciate the oboe players in an orchestra. Thanks for sharing. Take care, from Texas.
