Living in the city makes it easy to forget how powerful nature can be. Lake Michigan keeps (the wise ones) humble.

Absolutely amazing that people have a vehicle in hand that can go much faster than running and they still walk their bikes instead pedaling like heck!!

I was a biker commuting home one night (complete darkness) on a section further north on LSD during a similar storm. Wave came out of nowhere and knocked me off my bike. Never been so terrified in my life. I managed to get back to my feet and get to safety. They would have never found my body if I had gotten dragged out.I learned a big lesson that night.

Amazing that a lake can kick up wave heights just as high as the ocean can. I mean I knew they could given their size, but it still strikes me knowing these lakes have taken large cargo ships in its time.

Honestly, living in and being from Michigan I know never to go near a Great Lake while it's got large waves. The people here are just beyond ignorant and I'm surprised that they weren't smart enough to stay away. The current in Lake Michigan when it's NOT sloshing around with 12 foot tall waves are incredibly strong, I can't even imagine what it's like when it is,
@alexopferman88107 жыл бұрын
i rode through this probably 10 min before this footage on my way to school years ago, and the waves seemingly came out of nowhere, I did get soaked up to my knees but just kept on riding. explaining that to my professor was funny. wow good times.

@rterbeek489 жыл бұрын
Red Spaniard Yes, Lake Michigan is a powerful force - I know, I live just 25 miles to the east, and the storms and the cold winds blowing across the lake with nothing to interfere with them can cause damage inland. But, if you want to see REAL power, head on up to the U.P. and check out Lake Superior when the wind blows. It's awesome.

These people must be *obsessed* with exercise, if they're willing to risk the chances of being forcibly pulled-out by those waves (or else drowning/being smashed against the rocks); and they'd even put their dog's lives at risk! It's times like *this* where you have to use your head and think ; "What's worth the risk and what ISN'T worth the risk?" ... or you might regret it later on. 💭

Right Theron, but the waves are entering the bike path where there is usually no water whatsoever. The waves off shore were 12 to 16 feet. The spot where he and the bike were almost swept in is a giant seawall which normally is several feet above the water surface. Make no mistake, that lake will drown you as fast or faster than any sea on earth.

@Hello61Jello3 жыл бұрын
@@-star_27-20 a sea is defined as a division of the ocean enclosed by land. So no, technically according to that definition they should be salt water since oceans are. The Sea of Galilee which is often mistaken as a fresh water sea due to its name, is actually classified as a lake. Seas also have a direct outlet to the ocean.

It looks fun, actually. The worst that happens is that people get a little wet, or dunked, or go swimming. Big deal. Let people make their own decisions. We don't need the media or government telling us what to do. If you think it is too dangerous then don't go there, you don't need to become mega mommy.
@Officeglen0110 жыл бұрын
Actually the worst that could happen is death. That being said, if you wanna go someplace dangerous, go for it, but you must ensure that noone would risk themselves to try and save you. While you might be able deter a random hero thats probably not the case with emergency services. Go someplace more secluded if you want to try it.
