Thank you Daniel Barenboim, for putting together this series of valuable content about music. I love that you met with Till Brönner to debunk the "mystery" or "taboo" of jazz. I'm excited for more content from your youtube channel!

Every musician should try to learn how to improvise. It should be taught in music schools and conservatories. To know harmony, to be able to know what's happening in terms of harmony in every piece you play is very important. The understanding of harmony is the basis of improvisation. Interesting video.

"[...] it's a language that I believe everybody can learn. It's not a mystery at all, it's basically learning vocabulary, and copy it over and over again until you have so many words and so many ideas in mind that the way you combine them is turning into your language". To me, that is what music should be, improvised or not.

Maestro, como ve el futuro de la música clásica (ya que desgraciadamente en esta sociedad se está perdiendo poco a poco el interés por esta)?? Muchísimas gracias, saludos desde España.

from Beethoven onwards the text became sacred, even though he was a great improvisor, and nowadays music like Mozart and Bach is more historical and less of a living language. Also it is very difficult to improvise a Mozart cadenza, for example, although Robert Levin does it pretty well - but the fact that the composers themselevs are no longer around counts for a lot

Yeah but what about making a unique piece of music that is totally improvised not extemporised. There are two main breeds of Improvisation, one is extending a tune, another is making the thing up from scratch. 🎹😁

I'm so confused. The subject is Improvisation but Baremboen is a classical pianist. Straight away, I can see a recipe. But, it's difficult to establish whether he is asking a question or telling what Impro is!!!! The great jazz musicians not only improvised but there was something about the pain and suffering in their lives which was paramount in their creativity. A classically trained musician will NEVER understand improvisation and it's essence. Making music and reading it are two separate things. As for Till Bonner, great tone and resonance in his playing.

I take that you have never seen Barenboim improvise... Conductors have to interpret the music, in that case, is like and interpretation and improvisation. Maybe not expontaneus. Also, the myth about the great musicians being tortured, and sad is just that a mith. It´s true that a lot of jazz players in USA in the golden era where tortured souls, But correlation and causality are not the same... Dostoievski never killed an old woman, and wrote a massive and straordinary novel about It. Now, Empathy in the main reason of the pain that you see in the great art; The artist's ability to transmit situations that They have never lived.

Regarding your visit to Barcelona in January, I have mixed feelings. On the one hand of joy, because you return to Barcelona, on the other, a lot of sadness because you perform again at the Palau de la Música Catalana. Although the word "Catalana" is omitted lately (they have a lot of reasons!), the palau effectively has been the bulwark of a so-called bourgeois class totally discredited, which irresponsibly fractured society, violating and perverting the law and the opinion and feelings of the majority of the citizens. All these under the banner of hate to the other, aand also economical interest. The palau, by the way plundered by that same iresponsible ruling class, today is a symbol of social division. Of course this is my view, although problably shared for many people in Catalonia... Anyway, today we are living a very difficult situation and our rights are being violated. We are not sure what will be happen tomorrow (October 10) in our abducted parlament, and the social cost of the actions there taken. I only earnestly request you to profit from this opportunity in Barcelona to say some words of concord in favor of understanding, and the return to common sense, legality and social peace in Catalonia.
