My set up is a DD M4 with a 1-6 LPVO, Timney Gold trigger, and a magpul sling. That's my goto weapon. But I agree about the longer barrel being just fine and the longer targets just make it that more awesome. Carried a 16 in the Marines and as you know it can clear a house and hit the long targets. Just gotta train it. There's nothing cooler than watching a trained killer clear a room with a 20" barrel. Great video.

Big AK guy here, but after a decade, I figured I should get an AR. ADM lower for full ambi and LMT upper for QD barrel changes and monolithic handguard. Running a March FX 1.5-15 DFP so I can just dial in the dope for 22lr to 9mm to 556 to 6.5g to 350 legend.

I “built” a SPR using all Ballistic Advantage (AERO) parts. Had to go with the 18” 223 Wylde OPS12 SS barrel and the OCL OCM5 suppressor. So quiet!! It becomes a conversation starter at the range. I Put a PA GLX 3-18 scope up top. It has the Magpul A2 style fixed stock. I had to put a 0.5” riser to get a proper sight pic in prone. Over did it with an Accu-Tec bipod. Took a precision class with it and did quite well. Trigger is Trigger-tech Adaptable.

Sounds like a solid build. Is this what you had trouble with Hornady Black? What have you chose as your go to ammo?

I’ve tried the Hornady Black in this 18” and a BCM 14.5”. Did poorly in both. I had the best groups with 77gr MEAD. The 77gr AAC also did well. 77gr IMI did okay but couldn’t get it sub MOA. MEAD upped their price and shipping is too high so my “go to” moving forward is 77gr AAC.

Subbed, that being said i use the same base rifle with a handful of modifications. Jp silent buffer with riflespeed adjustable block. Took off the standard muzzle device for a precision armament hypertap. Overall it is an incredible shooter. Optic is a razor 1-10. Im thousands of rounds in and still incredibly reliable and accurate. Trigger is geissele ssa-ex.

I like that setup! I built my own with an FN barrel, BCM upper receiver and BCG, LaRue tactical hand guard and Stag Arms lower. I’m pretty satisfied with it and the accuracy results are pretty similar to yours. Great video 🤙🏽

awesome video! love it! I just built a LaRue 20 inch stealth , Larue lower m upper.and larue parts with a Larue quad rail.. i am using a Griffin PSR7 can and the Griffin Snatch 2 handle- it beat the radian hands down, and I LOVE THE DD RAIL COVERS !! i ordered them right away, they feel great! very unique! i am currentl searching for a Optic.i am trying several different one.. i reload, soo, i been trying to find that 1 god scope. i am enjoying your vides! many thanx for sharing!

Great rundown and that’s a nice rifle setup. Depending on your budget, the Swampfox Kentucky Long is a great optic with some awesome features for under $500. If you want nicer than that, check out Brass Facts’ channel for a good rundown of different tiers of scopes.

I normally shoot a new rifle for a few months find the ammo it seems to like the best and shoot 2 or 3 10 shot groups to get a much clearer indication of what my rifle will do with that ammo! I don't care how anyone else judges accuracy but I will also see what the MEAN Radius of the 10 shot groups also that helps to get a clearer understanding also. I'm working on an 18in version of this setup and I'm glad you're liking the Swampfox because I was looking at it also.

For military acceptance of ammo they average 9 targets of ten rounds at usually 600 yards.

I've got a 16" SPR I built. KE Arms KP-15 lower and a Faxon 16" fluted match barrel in the upper with an Athlon 2-12x42mm scope on top. I also picked the scope based on a Brass Facts video

From the intro Oh hi Mark 😂 great vid, keep it up. Great that you run this outside of the flat range as well. For discussion: I’m a fan of 5 shot groups. I don’t discount flyers unless I am positive that I pulled the shot. To get baselines on my rifles, I’ll do 9 shot groups, bagged/bipod, and that will be my numbers as a system, not just the rifle itself.

Honestly, an accurate 16" AR with a good 1-8 LPVO really is the best "do everything" rifle imo. Easy to PID and make accurate first round impacts from 0-500m, good 1x for up close, can direct mount a can which saves weight and still isn't "too long" to be able to move around as you demonstrated with the 18". It's funny how trends go, at first we acknowledged the 16", then the short boi 10.3's became cool for CQB, then everybody wanted a little more barrel to stretch out past 200ish and we saw 13.9's and 14.5s rise in popularity, then accuracy and longer distance shots with MPVO's became the trend for a while, and then ultimately we circle back to the good ole 16" as we realize it really was the goldilocks the whole time.

I mounted a trijicon vcog 1x8 on my DD MK12. I mounted an rmr on top of that. The rmr is a little high for my liking but i love the entire set up. Its my favorite rifle

Because if you look at the history of the Mk12 Mod 0 & Mod 1 you’ll see first a flip up sight gas block on the Mod 0 and then an exposed gas block on the Mod 1. They kept it for the historical accuracy, not their design.

I’m confused, how does a more expensive optic get you less than 1.5 moa? I was assuming more expensive meant better glass, tracking, reticle options, durability, weight, and probably most importantly reputation. But now I’m confused about it

All of the characteristics will help provide for better accuracy. The better glass will allow you to fight mirage and the better tracking gives you more precise movements of the reticle.

@@FitnFire already hearing it’s only getting worse. CZ qc is bad. Used to live in communist Connecticut and not far from colt. And knew/know people who work/worked there. I used to be a CZ fan too. And have old colt stuff too. I wouldn’t put my money on that horse anymore. Pun intended, haha!

That’s not why, I started like this guy. I didn’t know much outside or the Army. It was all Colt Lowers, Geissele triggers (they have mil contracts) and MK12/18/URGI/FBI 11.5 uppers. It’s definitely a vet thing. Now I use LMT MARS lowers and whatever high quality upper is out. I’m sure it can be cheaper sometimes but the point is flexibility

bros shooting 5 round groups and counting 4 lmao. shoot 7 or 10 round groups out of a lead sled and count them all if you want a true accuracy test.

All that training taking your time to shoot at targets not shooting back. As the old saying goes train like you intended to fight. Seems as if this training doesn’t really get the job done unless you clearing rooms in a house without any booby traps. Oh well we will see how it shakes out in the end.
