Over the years, the mid to late 90s Chevrolet Silverados have proven themselves to be great trucks, and here's why!

Ford was always stronger on fleet sales. Trucks that are used to destruction in four or five years. I would bet that for private users sales were similar. Not defending or attacking either Ford or Chevy

PhillLsx Ga. I have a 2000 Silverado with 205,000 miles on it and it doesn’t even feel worn out at all. All of the steering components on it are stock but it’s still tight as hell and there is no play in the steering wheel. I would have thought that it would have become a problem over the years but so far nothing bad has happened but it makes me concerned almost like it’s too good to be true. lol

Thank the EPA and the government's constant push for efficiency. Styles and generations of cars and trucks are considered obsolete way before their time. This is nothing new, though. That's why so many different manufacturers make cars that look relatively similar. How many cars and SUVs on the road right now look like brothers or sisters yet come from entirely different vehicle manufacturers and have designers in different parts of the world?

Now I have a simply awesome woman, who wouldn't give a shit if I drug the rustiest truck home to fix. So long as I enjoy wrenching on it, that's all that matters to her. Alot of people call me cold bc I refuse to deal with a cocky, conceited woman. My advice, take it as you will, bc I am not there in person, but, you gotta scrape up the self respect you have left, make a few calls, n enjoy life while you can.

I live in Colorado and it has a 5000 pound towing capacity. you pull 5000 through the mountains you're gonna get in a lot of people's way. Had a leaky oil filter adapter that the seller thought was a rear main seal. Fixed that in ten minutes. New exhaust system. Good to go. Drove it. Had to replace starter and battery. Oil changes. +Special Ed The 88+ Chevy so call cowboy Cadillacs are so much more reliable then 87 and older Chevy's. Not only the 88+ Chevy's way way way more reliable they ride way nicer they come factory with fuel injection and so much more. I have had my day with them 73-87 Chevy's what a bunch of junk. Fucking carburators we're always needing attention. Most had crappy TH350 and TH400 3spd non overdrive crap transmissions. The fuel tank switch was always a problem they came factory gutless as all hell. The solid front axe 4x4s required you to get out to lock out them stupid hubs not to mention them old solid axle Chevy's ride like crap and handle like crap. The list goes on I work a full-time job I don't feel like spending all my spare time working on a piece of shit truck. I just sold my 94 Silverado with over 400 000 most of the truck was all original including the 5.7TBI and 4l60e everything worked as GM intended including the air conditioning I'v upgraded to a 98 Z71 Silverado. Don't miss my 85 Silverado at all fuck that old carbureted piece of shit. That 85 I had was always a prick in the -40c mornings that 94 I had I'd just push a button and in my nice warm house.

I have a 1993 WT/1500 with the 4.3. it has 280,000 miles never been rebuilt and still gets an average of 24 MPG. I've had it for over 15 years and it has only left me on the side of the road once when a body to frame ground strap broke on me. I just clamped a jumper cable to the battery to the frame and it fired up and I drove it the last 13miles home from work. The only mods on the Truck I did was Added Duel Stainless Exhaust, Mallory Coil, Removed the Clutch Fan and put on an Electric fan that kicks on at 220F and off at 180F and put a 160*F Thermostat in it. I also upgrade the brakes to Z-rated brakes for more stopping power. Only did that because the price difference was only about $100 difference from stock. I'll keep this truck until it don't run any more. I've had people ask me when I'm going to get a new truck. I tell them If I have to put even $500 a year into this truck ( Witch is very rare ) It's still cheaper then new truck Payments and the Increase in Insurance. Great Truck. Take Care of it and It will definitely take care of you.

It’s got 213,000 miles on it in the most impressive thing on this truck when I first test drove it, was how strong the drivetrain felt. I am very fortunate as I do not have any oil leaks and any leaks at all. Which tells me this one was taken care of.And for $1600 I feel like my money went far

Naa not in Florida they aren't. I see more of these trucks still tooling around on the road then I do the old round body F-150's or big rig Ram's. I bought my old worn out work truck 8 years ago for $1500 expecting to drive it a couple years then scrap it out... Ended up fully restoring it the truck was so AWESOME mechanically!

im a ford and chevy guy these silverados are along the same line in terms of reliability as the 97-03 f150. 97 and 98 f150s did have an issue with timing cover gaskets and intake gaskets but it was solved in 99. id say tho the f150 does squeak out a win because of the 4r70w transmission is more reliable then 4l60. its retarded how cool these guys think they are with there brand new $50 000 f150s and silverados when a 4 door car would suit them much better laughs

Interesting. I have a 2016 Silverado. Drove it off the lot with 9 miles. Now has 25,000 miles. And the bed and bed rails are all scratched, dented, and well broken in (and yes, the liner is sprayed). I also have a tool box bolted right through the bed rails. And I've towed cars, lumber, lawn equipment, snow equipment, ladders, etc. I've loaded my bed with soil, mulch, tree limbs, and plants. And I'm not afraid to push a snow bank out of my way to pull into my driveway. I'm also not afraid to get it dirty or muddy, but still wash it once every month or so, and polish, wax and seal the paint twice a year. This was after I traded my 2003 with 262,000 miles in excellent condition. And I pushed that truck to the limit as well. Oh yeah. And I paid only $32K for mine after hours of negotiating. And my '03 was $26K brand new. So I think I did well. So don't worry, there's still dudes out there that use their trucks as trucks. And I'm one of them. However, there are tons of dudes that shouldn't have a truck because they don't use them as trucks. Know who they are? The ones with the hydraulic tonneau covers. Because any truck guys knows those things are a waste of time when trying to load the bed.

The 88-98 c/k (GMT400 platform) are by far my favorite trucks of all time. I have owned several of them and I am happy to say that I recently bought another one this year. They are rocksolid and fun to drive the only thing that I would mention is make sure that you keep an eye on the oil and transmission fluids as they are prone to leaking from the pans so as long as you keep them full of fluid they’ll keep running. Get one from AZ, or southern NV as they usually have little to no rust. There are so many aftermarket parts and modifications to make the truck exactly how you want it.

I absolutely love these trucks!!! I've literally owned at least 20 of them. Many I have seen sitting in someone's back yard and buy it for a few hundred bucks, put a battery, fresh gas, maybe a starter or alternator and get them running and either drive it for a while or sell it and make some extra cash. The body style is very desirable and the drive train is the best ever out of the light duty trucks. I have a 99 Tahoe 90s body style I bought from a old guy for $2000, 180k on it and zero rust and it runs like new. I work for a Chevy dealership and could drive a brand new Silverado if I wanted but NO...I'll save the money per month and drive my Tahoe for pennies a month in comparison. Love the video btw!!!!

That's a good write-up and video. I learned how to drive in a 96 Suburban (in 2003), my parents still have that truck (2 transmissions and 1 engine later). My daily is an 03 Silverado 5.3. I tow a small hard-side camper. Though it's only about 3,500lbs, it's a parachute. The 5.7 Vortec has so much more towing power than my newer 5.3. Chevy still knows how to make simple, easy to maintain and repair, trucks. Fords and Dodges are too complicated and love to bury half the engine under the firewall. My biggest gripe about the GMT400s are the damn interior. No bottom bolsters on the seats and a very low window line at the door panel. I drive with one arm on the door and this is NOT the must comfortable truck to do that. I'd rather have the interior of the GMT600, but the drivetrain of the GMT400. Now THAT'S a damn good truck.

Nathan Springer it's worth every penny you've invested too. I've had my 92 stepside for 10 years. I wouldn't take 5 grand for mine, and I paid 3 grand for it 10 years ago.

I had a 1993 extended cab 4×4 , 4.3 v6 5 speed got good mileage and was just a great truck I miss it. I'm a brick Mason and I loaded that bad boy down with scaffolding and boards and pulling a mixer with my helpers in the cab and that 4.3 got the job done. I have a 2010 Silverado z71 LTZ now and use a RangeTechnology OBD2 delete tool on it and does fine , that little tool also slows down oil consumption dramatically , great video.
