Saw a lady DIY small mirrors into one large one - and even though she took so much care, there was distortion between mirror to mirror. I think it was something to do with their thinness.
@rickyloftin2968
@rickyloftin2968 9 ай бұрын
I made the mistake of sticking them directly on my wall, even with precision they don't sit flush against each other, distort at the sides on each piece, all sit at different depths and tore chunks of plaster off my wall when tried to remove. Do not recommend 😮
@teresse2742
@teresse2742 9 ай бұрын
This issue doesn’t really register visually if you 1) stick them to mdf backing, 2) don’t use the sticky tape but rather construction adhsive, and 3) use an actual wood trim instead of just empty space. We did this hack in our hallway and there’s no distortion. :)

I love these ideas. However, my only concern is that the cabinets from ikea may not be sturdy enough for seating.

with the bed: theres always the option, if you have a bed with an open frame, to buy or make your own rolling drawers to put under the bed - and if you don't have as much space as you want for drawers, bed risers exist to up the hight of your bed's legs so that you can fit more storage under the bed - which is a simpler solution (with less fear of weightbearing issues) than making your own bedframe

I used the 1x5 kallax (?) shelves under my bed a few years ago and it was a huge win for me! I had one on either side and used the box spring to span the two with a lack side table to support the middle. Then I used a 4x4 kallax at the end of the bed to create a “room divider/privacy screen”. It was a bit busy so I would have loved to add the door hack ideas you showed here, but it was terrifically useful and easy, and a huge amount of storage in a tiny space!

I like that you not only show the hacks, but also an improved version and a simple explanation of how to do it. Obviously if I do them I would research a bit more to make sure my plans were correct, but with the information you provide it allows me to decide if something is feasible. I really enjoy your informative content and video structure. ❤

Especially love the idea of building a bed out of Ikea Malm dressers. I slightly changed it so it consists of three Malm dressers as my bedroom has a little more space than Daniel's in the old apartment in London. Such a grest hack!

Daniel, I appreciate your minimalist and clean approach, that's why I think you're a great person to ask: would you make some ideas how to put up a tv wall, from a practical point of view? As my interior is rather vintage or even victorian a bit, I struggle with hiding electronics. The TV itself is okay (obviously) and the cables are hidden in the wall, but what I hate about it is the rest: the subwoofer, soundbar... and even an xbox (it's closed inside the unit fortunately). I have a midcentury tv unit to hide some of the stuff but of course the sound system is out. I've been thinking for 3 years how would I do it again and didn't come up with anything except a similar concept to your idea from this video with the picture ledge which is making a closed shelf-like unit for the soundbar but very minimal abt. 20cm high under the tv or make a fake fireplace (of course it's balancing between looking mysterious and kitsch).

Some of these are not so 'cheap', especially considering there are existing items that do the same job. The Ikea Malm is a bed with storage built into it, i have one. Building a huge mirror with all those elements can be both expensive and difficult: the Ikea Hovet is 196x78cm and is about only 100 bucks.
@koniku3y
@koniku3y Жыл бұрын
That depends on where you live or get the items from, prices varies from place to place. I built that exact mirror deco from the vid for 40$. 30$ for 15 30x30cm mirror from Lazada, 10$ for a gallon of paint and brushes

Having a bench made from metod cabinets I highly suggest to leave some space behind your feet because it is already uncomfortable to sit on a straight back. Not having space makes you want to sit crossed legs on top of the bench. This is not an issue if you only need it for decor or casual reading, but more if you need it as a dining seat

4:16 That's true, but I love that my risers look much like a Z from the left side of the desk. That way there's a lot of space in the front not obstructed by front legs, so objects can freely lay under the shelf partially. Handy if you have to deal with large objects. That's possible since the leg is steel.

Dan, A bed isn't a waste of space, as it's used 8 hours a day or 30% of the time. whereas a dining bench or side tables are only used when sitting there, possibly 1-2 hours per week. what do you think?

If I wanted to use plant pots as the base, I'd saw off the bottom(s) on the top one(s) to be able to use all the room in them for storage. The foldable desk can be tweeked a bit. If you attach two pieces of timber vertically to the wall, attach a shelf on top of them and then attach the foldable brackets to the pieces of timber, the desk will not be as flat when folded down, but you will have a shelf for pens and computer mouse.
