Really a well balanced performance, lyrical yet tempestuous with fire but no exhaustion. He is believe or not extremely relaxed playing this. Love him.

Some parts are good but many many features missing. Most of the syncopated features in the base accents were missing. Most of the polyphony missing . The phrasing could have been lyrical. This is far far below his usual standard.

I don’t know how specific the marking are on the written page, but the piece seems so wild no matter who’s playing it, this interpretation seems as be good as any.

Actually it’s written nothing, no forte no piano just notes, it definitely can be interpreted very melodic and beautiful, but still, to my taste, it’s hardly a melodic song, but it can definitely have some lightness, which I think misses in this interpretation, he struggled quite a bit, he was not well prepared, but again he won big competitions so he must be best, Who am i to judge.

Absolutely great, this verison adds a crazy side to the whole piece seemingly coming out of a very agitated mind! This aspect of the piece has never occured to me before so clearly. Nothing about showing off technical abilites (which he sure has plenty) but pure expression!! Fantastic!

Richter, Lhevinne, Cziffra and others have left us with wonderful, even amazing, readings of this difficult work. But let us not forget Horowitz's two recordings. The first, recorded relatively early in his discography, while quite impressive, does not have the deeper musical meaning and texture of his later, definitive statement, recorded in the sixties. It is, IMHO, one of the very best -- and most lovingly rendered -- recorded documents of this challenging work!

Pogorelichs rendition in his youthful years is superbly stunning!! I prefer Pogos rendition, but that is only my musical mindscape choosing. Not to take anything from the superb artistry and virtuosity of Trifonov. In some areas, Trifonov reminds me a lot of Gyorgy Cziffras rendition, which is out on YT. Cziffra is also superbly artistic and virtuosic. But tending more to the lyrical. Pogorelich to me is absolutely STUNNING in his virtuosity and choice of using more staccato in the sixths and less lyrical as opposed to Cziffras rendition, but the absolute clarity of sound for each note is beyond my belief as possible...but Pogos hands are so large that anything is artistically and virtuosically possible with Pogo. All Hail, a musical saviour walks among us, undetected as a messiah of the musical future !!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Virtuosity is not Trifonovs strong suit. His musical personality leans on the lyrical side. He should focus on that more. But it's still nice to see a young artist steps out of his comfort zone and takes adventures sometimes. We should encourage such endeavors more.

@@parsiparla.classic8674 this Toccata has been played by very many famous and infamous pianists. There are several exquisite performances of it on KZfaq. My favorites are Wolfram Schmitt-Leonardy and Grigory Sokolov. I am not judging Daniil as a pianist, but only this performance. His Chopin, for example, is played masterfully and touching.
