Dan I just have to say it's always refreshing to get your fair, level-headed takes on movies. Places like this on the internet seem to be fewer and far between, so thank you for continuing the work of making and fostering an environment of rationality while still being honest about what you're covering!

Stewart and Pattinson both have had some very challenging and bold movie choices since Twilight. For all the hate those movies got, I feel like they were over them just as much as everyone else. Also…as a wrestling fan…we need to get a Chyna biopic with Katy O’Brian stat! Keep her and the Iron Claw team in the A24-verse and get it made!

A mom AND daughter? Maybe they should've researched the kind of movie they were going into instead of going in blind. It's their own fault if they were 'offended' by what was going on. Personally I enjoyed this movie, there were a few serious WTF moments - the scenes I'm referencing didn't literally happen as we saw them, they were symbolic in nature. Anyone who's seen the movie know which scenes those are!

Saint Maude was an incredibly impressive debut film. I was really interested in that and it got lost from my mind for a while after the delays from 2020 but I finally got around to both it and The Green Knight last year and while I enjoyed both of them, I watched Saint Maude a second time the next night. It's deeply interesting and is a fulfilling second watch. Also one of my favorite endings in years.

I haven’t seen Katy O’Brian in many movies except that she was a proper standout in this episode of The Mandalorian, originally meant for the New Republic series. I know that sounds strange, but she plays the character super convincingly, in this sort of sci-fi neo-noir short story of an episode, ik ppl hated it becuz it wasn’t Mandalorian action, but by itself it was very engaging and she was noticeably fantastic. Glad to see she’s doing great with a leading role

This one is easily gonna be a top one for me looking back this year. Love the moody lighting, the strong score, the solid character work and Ed Harris and whatever is going on with his looks. Indeed the lust stuff made me realize just how much it can be helpful to character when it's done right, and only reinforces my own view against the idea of taking that kind of thing out in movies when it isn't a hard thing to do right.

It's tough for him as that movie has a roadshow style theater run where it only plays a theater in a big city for one night or two. I was very lucky enough to see it when I could. That said this is one of the best movies of 2024 so far, and I highly encourage people to seek it out in theaters, fandor, or their DVDs and BluRays when it actually comes out there.

My review Background - When a reclusive gym manager Lou falls for an aspiring bodybuilder Becky their love story sets in motion a chain of deadly and catastrophic events. Completing the circle are Lou's sister Beth, her abusive husband JJ, Daisy another girl who is interested in Lou and finally Lou's father who is a gun smuggler. Likes - This is great movie. A tragic love story in the neo-noir background. Its very well written performed and acted. Not only does the movie have the right tone and screenplay, the technical values like the cinematography and back ground score are great. The dialogue is natural and once it gets going the movie never gets its foot of the paddle. Dislikes - None. I just could not find a flaw in this movie. Final Thoughts - Love Lies Bleeding reminds you of the all time great Coen's brother classic The Big Lebowski. And while that is a comedy movie and is too idiosyncratic and clever to be matched , Love Lies Bleeding is tragic and blunt. But the spontaneity and story telling style is as intense yet natural as that movie. Definitely a contender for Best Actress, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Cinematographer, Background Score and obviously Best Picture. Somebody has to really give a memorable performance to beat Kristen Stewart in Best actress category. But editing and cinematography and background scores will require some really special work to beat this movie. And while Katy Brian may not win an acting award I must say I have not seen a physique like that. I hope it was not computer generated. But that was really an extraordinary physique. It reminded me of tennis player Gabriela Sabatini. The masculinity was similar. My rating is 8.5. This movie will be a future cult classic.

Good point about lust being rarely portrayed like this in film, especially among women. I loved that the queer characters could exist without it all being about their orientation and that they were allowed to have a sexuality as well as a whole life in this movie outside of that. Great movie, I'm so excited about Rose Glass's future.

Hi, Dan. Have you seen the video “The Visual Effects of Godzilla Minus One”? I want to know where all the money goes in these big budget lower quality films. Could the American audience be concerned about the perceived inefficiency of their VFX industry and how it might be viewed by audiences worldwide each year?

I suspect a big part of those budgets go to assuming big-name actors are required and inefficiency in the studio systems themselves (constant changing direction) rather than VFX industry costs.

That ending definitely took me out of it although I loved the vast majority of the film. Just went wayyy too abruptly A24 in that final climatic scene which I felt was so unnecessary. Take out that A24 whimsical scene and let the story play out naturally and this would be a solid 90-95%.

I was into 98% of this movie, but I found the second outlandish scene to be fucking stupid for two reasons: that's where the film veered wildly into wierdness that it took me out of it, and it was far too obvious a metaphor. So, it falls into "good, but not great" for me. On a brighter note, the best part about seeing it was watching this older couple get so horrified from what they were seeing that they got up and left the theater very early in.
