I have a pair of the “Cathay Spice” Mountain Pass. I sprung for this boot because I do a lot of hiking and running but I’m also a sprinter and train for sprinting. Being able to very quickly get to something like top speed mechanically, in lots of situations apart from track spikes, such as when hiking or in the city requires an especially light weight and flexible and specialized hiking boot. The MP is an amazingly functional hybrid boot. I’m actually kind of shocked how good this boot is. They’re so durable and tough but so soft and light weight due to the new construction methodology. I think this boot might actually be the best unrecognized mountain cross trainer of all time. Danner smacked a home run with this one!!! I also work exclusively for years in Danner’s Quarry work boot which are just as amazingly functional and comfortable and tough for its own scope. Thank you Danner for being AWESOME! And thank you for the Mountain Pass. Couldn’t love them more!

I would like to point out that the "recraftable" selling point is a little misleading for these. They can be stretched and they can be resoled the liner cannot be replaced because of the design of the bi-fit board so when it's lining is done it's just done. For 370 dollars that's not worth it to me. They're an excellent looking boot though and obviously very well made. But for having a liner that can't be replaced when it wears out, 370 is just way too high.

I just got a pair of mountain pass, sand color (natural leather) without Gore-Tex. I already have a pair of danner mountain light and was looking for something without Gore-Tex for the hot days of summer, natural leather is an exciting bonus!

Yo, have you seen the new Wolverine Loader 6" or 8" MocToe Work Boot? It's $100 with a goodyear welt and some decent modern styling for being made outside the US. I have a pair I've been wearing for a week, they are breaking in rather nicely.

Hi @TheBootGuy, I love your videos! You are a treasure trove. Do you know where I can find the boot grading for Danner boots for compatibility with crampons?
@TheBootGuyreviews4 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. Information like that would have to come from a true outdoorsmen. Danner should have someone in their company who would know. Now, how do we find them? I'll email a few contacts and see what I can find out.

Would you consider this your favorite color scheme out of all of the other variations for the pass?
@LJay-pv8lm5 жыл бұрын
I'm interested in getting these but I'm concerned about this colorway being delicate lol. Are they going to get water marks in the rain? Do they scratch easy? I live near Portland and need a durable shoe for the rainy months, I go hiking a lot but nothing serious

I have a pair of these but they’re the mink oil color. I absolutely love them and they’re probably the most comfortable boot I’ve owned. I’ve been using them to hike outdoors pretty often (mostly warm weather but sometimes cold) and in more of an “urban” setting for a year and a half now and they still are like new. They have some scuffs and scratches and the tread on the bottom has worn a bit, but they’re still great and those flaws just add to the character IMO. They’re very low profile like stated in the video but all the ankle support is there and they never slip regardless of terrain

Good to hear. I have a less expensive pair of Danners that I use for hiking and they're great, but I walk a few miles in the city each day and want something durable with a sole that can stand up to me pounding the pavement.
@yaboyreege71583 жыл бұрын
@@hadrosaurus these boots are perfect for that exact scenario. Mine are still holding up very well and have been to many places with me. I love them

@@yaboyreege7158 Thanks for the info! I went ahead and bought a pair. This will be my third and most expensive pair of Danners. The other two served me well, and it seems these will too.
@yaboyreege71583 жыл бұрын
@@hadrosaurus no problem man. You’ll love them. They’re comfortable right out of the box and are great for light hiking and walking around in the city like you’ve mentioned. I wore mine on a 15 mile hike over two days and my feet were comfortable the entire time. They never got sore and I never got any blisters or discomfort during the trip. In my opinion, they’re also the best looking boot that Danner offers. I love mine and wear them constantly. They look even better with regular wear and tear. If you haven’t already, buy some of danners leather treatment for them. That’ll make them hold up even longer. I usually apply it to my boots once every few months, sometimes a bit more. That really helps with keeping the leather hydrated, and prevents them from cracking or blowing out prematurely. I wear a pair of quarry’s to work everyday as well and they are also very comfortable and durable boots. I get compliments on both pairs all the time. I have a bad ankle, so I always shell out cash for good quality shoes/boots

I have worn danner mountain light, for 20 years! 24/7 365 ! I have NEVER had ANY failures..! I was a linemen for 12 years and made danner boots do things they shouldn't and were NOT designed for. If it doesn't say *DANNER, im not interested! I have a lighter duty job now and have wanted something lighter at times. Only reason I didn't try these till now is that they only come in EE but maybe I'll try a pair.

Whoever coined the term “urban hiking boot” should be punched in the face.
@brianronne20606 жыл бұрын
Waterproofing membranes do not belong in hiking boots period. They make the boot very hot, they stay soked if water gets in them, and your feet feel like they have plastic bags around them. You need maximum ventalition in a hiking boot. Gortex/any liners are a marketing sellimg point. Please dont make the same mistake as me. Buy a boots made of mesh, or a trail runner, or even sandles, anything that airs out your feet completely.
@joem.76216 жыл бұрын
You've never experienced winter in Minnesota? To me these are obviously made for a cold environment. Hence the name Mountain which for boot names always means they are for cold/wet environments.
@jaysoncarlson75046 жыл бұрын
I used to think the same thing. I have not had the same experience with these boots. Actually they might be the only boots I've ever had that my feet don't soak in sweat.

That is not a boot. That is a mid-cut shoe.
@SilverlakeDehners6 жыл бұрын
The boot is not tall enough to give proper ankle protection and not lacing them up all way further reduces they protective value. Hiking boots are not casual street boots; they are purpose built boots to protect your feet and to support your feet to reduce fatigue and injury. Danner is struggling with competition from the Asolo 520 and the Zamberlan Vios which are higher quality boots, are made in "D" and wide sizes and feel like foot "gloves" right out of the box! Sorry, you sound like a Danner commercial agent and are not objective about what the short comings are of the Danner boots.
