Such a joy for a banjo player to see how Danny did it. Thanks.

Wow... this makes me miss those good old days. Danny played all over town... that would be New Orleans. Back in the 70s & 80s Danny would play at Joan Liberty's house parties. We would have a good time talking and Danny loved to tell stories of the "old Days"... hahaha, his "old Days" were way before my old days. He was always kind to the young artist I was at that time. back then, I did some great paintings of Danny over the years and he and Blue Lu loved them. Danny was a joy to paint! When Joan passed she still had a fine , early single figure of Danny in a cool round frame. Danny you're gone but not forgotten... fo'sure! You can see Danny in my print "Dixielanders", located under the 'Jazz" folder at tomsart4u. hahaha... after listening to this I'll have to bring up a Blue Lu tune!!!

Thank you so much for posting this! Great memories of the days playing music in New Orleans. I played the gig with Danny at the Palm Court for about a year and a half. I'd love to see more! I think the drummer might be Ernie Elly.

Chris I think you are right that it is Ernie Elly. Sounds like him. And in the video you can see that the hihat is on the right of the drumset like Ernie likes it.

There’s a washboard in there too

No washboard, sorry.

Danny Barker’s strumming style included all kinds of syncopation and offbeat accents against the basic backbeat. I think what sounds like washboard is actually Mr. Barker’s right hand technique.
