Danny Barker is responsible for tutoring a group of very young men of New Orleans in the traditional New Orleans style of music that is loved and appreciated by music lovers from all over the world. Mr Barker had these young men play in a youth band known as the Fairview Baptist Church Band. Amongst the young men were people like Leroy Jones, Lucien Barbarin, Greg Stafford, Herlin Riley, Kermit Ruffins, and many others who today are some of the greatest jazz men in the world. All of these men speak with great reverence of the wonderful Danny Barker. There is now an annual Danny Barker Festival held every year, to honor his legacy, in the great city of New Orleans.

that hurt my heart. danny barker is a new orleans culture bearer of the highest order. that interviewer is a shame to his profession. i had the opportunity of seeing mr. barker play many times in the 80's and 90's. i will always remember the city-wide secondline parade following his death and the outpouring of respect and admiration from this city's musicians for their beloved daniel moses barker.

Man, I miss you Danny. Those were the days, when you could drift down to some joint ( jernt, lol) and find him playing with some other great New Orleans jazzmen. I always gave Danny the 'beauty treatment' as Blue Lu first said it...hahaha. In truth I just painted/sketched him as he looked. Now when Danny refers to the Calliope as Kal-ee-ohp, hes is correct in that pronunciation and that is how the street in New Orleans is said, there. That's the old way to say that instrument's name. He had some great Nawlins words and Malaprops though... part of the fun of Danny. Play on Danny!!!
