Collins was actually the CURRENT champion at this point as Kent Walton notes at 6:03 - He'd already lost and regained twice with Steve Grey (on television) and with Sid Cooper (as insurance policy while Danny went on tour of France and northern Spain in summer '85).

He stayed British Welterweight champion until he beat Fit Finlay in 1989 for the British Heavy Middleweight championship and had to give up the lighter British belt. Mal Sanders won the vacant title then lost it to Doc Dean in 1990 who did a loss/regain with Blondie Barrett in 91/92. Doc lost it permanently to Soldier Boy Steve Prince in 1993 and from there it faded out before being revivied by TWA 2000-2003, RBW 2004-2006 and LDN in 2008.

Sanders also got the European Welterweight title after Danny (already World Middleweight champion since beating Owen Hart in Bath in 1991) beat Sanders for the Euro Middleweight title in 1993 and had to vacate the Welterweight title which Sanders then won so they effectively swapped belts. Sanders then lost, regained and lost permanently the Welterweight title to Jason Kashmir Singh in 93-94 before getting the Euro Middleweight title back in 1995 then losing it to Jason Cross who is still technically dormant champ now (although Jason laughed off the idea when I pointed it out to him on FB a couple of years back)

I never knew that Mick McManus did the cornerman role. Also, it’s strange seeing a “heel” in a “face’s” corner.

@@AldershotDave Mick turned good after he retired because he liked Danny so mentored him a few times including his Euro Wwt title win over Jorg "Baron Von" Chenok. He also stood up for Danny when interviewing Fit Finlay before a Croydon bout on hs Mick McManus World Of Wrestling videotape in 88.

Did Danny ever challenge for the world title on TV?

No. They were negotiating a match with the Mexican champion Jose Ramos, it also gets mentioned in Collins' British title defence against Rick Wiseman. Apparently Ramos was an actual masked wrestler who was WWAssociation champion in Mexico (nothing to do with the alleged WWAlliance who oversaw the Wayne Bridges/Kendo Nagasaki World Heavyweight title match in late '87.) whom they were going to bring over to wrestle Danny.

+Roger Morris Chief Christmas Tree! anyone remember Allan Iron Eagle? He was a bit Day-Glo.

That was his gimmick back home in France. Indio Apache, a bad guy Red Indian. Also did the same gimmick as Black Eagle in the CWA in Germany/Austria.
