I completely agree. I started playing music a week after I bought Undertow, and I saw them live in 2001. I still to this day love introducing people to them.

I knew about them from the beginning but it wasnt till 1999 when i visited my brother for the summer in california that i heard eulogy on the radio and became instantly obsessed. That same day after work i went to a lil record store called Dimple records and bought everything with Tools name on it that existed to that point and came back to nebraska annoying the shit out my friends. It was always Tool from then on lol

6'5" and 59yrs old. Pretty incredible that he does this for about 2hrs straight, every night in concert. He's know as The Octopus because because it sounds like he needs 8 limbs to create the sounds he does. He has 4 limb independence. That's like making circles with one arm triangles with the other, squares with one leg and hexagons with the other. Danny works incredibly hard on his craft, saying that he never wanted to be the weak link in the band. He's truely a force of nature. Keep your reactions coming✌🤘🤘

Pretty accurate description of the skill it takes but I would add, making 5 circles with one hand, 3 triangles with the other hand, 9 squares with one leg and 16 hexagons with the other then beginning and finishing all 4 tasks at exactly the same time.

What??? ok ok... lets get some things straight.... Digital playback on command activated by the drum stick.... because it looks like a electronic drum pad.... play anything for a few seconds, record....playback loop... "nice set of double kicks".... while playing an actual double kicks simultaneously ..well that sounds epic... Reality check for those who dont see the stack of components to the left rear of his seat..... Kids are doing this with individual instruments and recording there voice...sound like they have a whole band!! Danny Carey pioneered this tech...

I discovered tool early in highschool when I was going through a rough period in my life and their music helped bring me through the darkness and changed me forever. There's all kinds of wonderful music in this world but tool is something else entirely. You should listen to Reflection! Off of the album Lateralus. Rah, you had some questions about polyrhythms in SOAD’s “Toxicity.” I explain in the comments section what polyrhythms are and suggest you give Pneuma another listen. Danny plays polyrhythms starting around 12:05 in this video: His feet, left hand, and right hand are all playing different time signatures.

I know you said you're still learning, well join the club. You'll keep getting educated no matter how many times you look or listen to Danny Carey playing the drums. Even guys who have been playing drums for 15,20, or 30 years are still learning from watching and listening to him. He is definitely in a class of his own, it's called being a legend.... Welcome to the world of odd time signatures! There have been 3 songs, to my knowledge; that have hit the billboard top 50. They are in chronological order; Take five by Dave Brubeck, Money by Pink Floyd and Opossum Kingdom by the Toddies. As a percussionist this is what excites me in music. First off, Oklahoma City!! Second, tool usually has at least 2-3 time signatures/feels going on at once. Then they all magically come together and your neck breaks. Haha

I'm out of breath. actual tears... bearing witness to the a singularity of talent and acutely honed skill that is so astounding, that I could feel Neil Pert shouting out accolades from his grave. There has never been... in the history of the universe... a more stunning display of brain surgeon level talent and musical skill. Truly, a privilege to watch. I've been a Tool fan for so long... watching them rise so much higher than anyone's imagination is such a gift from the music gods. Now, I will go throw rocks at my drum kit.. and yell at it for not being good enough. I MUST blame my drums.. because If I try to compare myself to this, I may never recover. :-) Danny Carey, I hope you can feel the love and adoration flowing from the universe straight to you. You deserve it.

Tool Army here. Danny's a monster, and 59yrs old. He's a huge basketball fan. I've seen him play live 6 times, he wears jersey every show....subbed 🤘

Im glad to see to see that up are open to other musics. You can get lost in this band for years and still find new stuff in their music. The are the greatest band ever. You should see a live show. You'll leave a different person. They actually went into another song during this song and came back flawlessly.

Huge TOOL fan from Muskegon, MI. About 40 minutes south of where Maynard grew up. Every album is my favorite until I listen to the next one. Eulogy is a great song. Been rocking to some 4° as well, love Wings for Marie parts 1 and 2 and You Lied is fucking awesome. Like I said, way too many great songs to just pick one. Respect to you Rah 🤜🏻💥🤛🏾♥

This was a trip watching. About 14 minutes in a metamorphosis seems to occur. Your facial expressions looks as if something changed inside you as you were listening. You look troubled and yet simultaneously at peace. Thanks for documenting your journey into Tool!

Danny Carey gets a Jersey from each City he plays in. He's a huge round ball fan. If you ever get a chance look at some of his backstage video footage he's got closets full of jerseys.
