When he first heard of Danny Elfman he was fronting US rock band Oingo Boingo. Australia liked Oingo Boingo. ‘Weird Science’ was a top 40 hit, so was ‘Stay’.
The ‘Weird Science’ soundtrack got Danny involved with Hollywood. His career took a turn when he started working on movies. There was ‘Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure’ in 1986. Not long after Danny was working on ‘Beetlejuice’, then ‘Batman’, ‘Dick Tracy’, ‘Edward Scissorhands’. Up to now he has done over 110 soundtracks.
And then there is The Simpsons Theme, probably his best know work. He talks about that in this interview … as well as ‘Big Mess’, his first solo album in 37 years. In fact it has been 25 years since his last Oingo Boingo album.
Danny Elfman caught up with Noise11’s Paul Cashmere.

@Guy Smith, I completely agree. I've not heard anything like "Big Mess" for way too long. I'm not sure if you're familiar with the band "Sparks" at all? If not, or even if you are I definitely suggest giving the album "Hello Young Lovers" a listen. Not as dark as what Danny Elfman is doing right now, but a really nice album in the aspect of things that you don't hear anymore, or never really have.

My fave artists are always the ones 're-inventing'/discovering/trying something 'different' because they already did a thing once... Beck, David Bowie, even Madonna... Eclectic personalities like to 'sample a bit of everything' at the artistic smorgasbord. That 'jaw-dropping'/WTF reaction is how you know you've struck oil, re: originality. So if it's awesome and otherwise artistically interesting/enriching, it attains longevity and becomes 'iconic.' You always impress and move us, but i'm excited to have my jaw knocked to the floor by whatever comes next, Maestro Elfman. And there are LOTS of us down for that adventure :)

I’m very happy that Danny is fine with people not liking Big Mess. It is difficult music and in my personal opinion just short of a masterpiece. Perhaps people are so accustomed to all the garbage out there these days that really different, creative music is off putting. I don’t really know. But I hope that he keeps creating it. I did not know him from the Oingo Boingo days. I first heard his music while workin on nightmare before Christmas and thought the score was magical. I love all his film scores.

Why would he say that So-Lo is his first solo album, when it is the fourth album by Oingo Boingo? He had to call it So-Lo by Danny Elfman due to the legal transition from the contract from A&M Records to MCA Records.
@OingoBoingoTapes
@OingoBoingoTapes 3 жыл бұрын
That's not really true. MCA signed Danny solo because Boingo was on hiatus and they apparently werent interested in signing the band. Danny still got most the band to play on the album and wanted to continue Oingo Boingo, so he persuaded MCA afterwards to change the contract. By that time he had regrouped the band with the new bass and keyboard players. It doesnt matter if it's considered a Danny Elfman or an Oingo Boingo album really

It's not that the guy above likes pedestrian music, it's just that he's able to pick up on the rather obvious undertones that you apparently aren't. It's ok, most people prefer to go through life totally blind and oblivious to the real world that exists behind the fake one. Boy, I'll bet you have no idea how these songs Danny's putting out have severe religious aspects, are sort of confessional in nature, and rather prophetic. I'm sure you're completely ignorant to the serpent motifs used for the music video for sorry, what the meaning behind that imagery is, or where in the world you would find those same motifs repeated, or how Danny knows anything about it, or why he knows. I'll bet you didn't ever go into and ponder the lyrics of songs like Nasty Habits, or It Only Makes Me Laugh(another confessional piece for Danny), or I'm so bad. I'll bet all those years ago, when Danny showed up for that interview on that french tv show with a black eye, you didn't see what that was really about. The guy above I responded too, was worried about Danny's mental Health because of the Video's he saw--artists are not bankers or sports stars. They live in many cases very odd ball existences and it's not some affect--they truly see the world differently. I'm just referring to what He's stating above in the interview about barely escaping fascism and the rise of Fascism worldwide. Arrogance is something many americans suffer from and especially those on the right, I see you have a very severe version of it. I and most americans voted to oust trump and not for Biden. We don't want to live in a Fascist dictatorship. You must be one of the folks who think Qanon is how your eyes are so open to the fake world behind the real world, right? @@jeremyserwer2586 Biden is sadly doing little to correct Trump’s fascism. Trump unleashed the vaccine from Hell on us right before Biden got elected, having dumped so much money into it that it became Too Big to Fail and now it’s past the point of saying sorry and correcting their mistakes and releasing a vaccine such as Novavax or Corbevax that’s safe, effective and doesn’t prey on us with experimental technology. I swear this is what “Native Intelligence” is about. He probably wrote it before the vaccine came out, when all the liberals were still scared of the Trump vaccine (Trump took advantage of their worship of science; all he had to do was be presented as being at odds with Fauci and have the news downplay his role in enabling Big Pharma)

What bothered him was that Trumpism even purged reasonable conservatives and intellectuals from the GOP.

@@jeremyserwer2586 I’m afraid white power and Trump support is more Antifa’s style than mine. He was using you guys as his useful idiots in much the same way Hitler did. And the attitude that being against “antifascism” is pro-fascism is literally one of Umberto Eco’s 14 points of Ur-Fascism. Did you listen to Danny’s interview with Marc Maron? HE DOES NOT LIKE MOBS. “Patrolling the streets with all of their friends Bashing you around trying to make you like them WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET” But you’ll probably think he’s racist after hearing him talk about Idi Amin, that dictator in Uganda, because only white people can be fascist right? And wait until you hear all the racist songs he wrote in the 80s like “Only A Lad” and “Perfect System” and “Reptiles and Samurai” and “Cool City” and let’s not forget that racist movie he did with his brother. Or all those lily-white movies he scored for Tim Burton whom he still to this day hasn’t denounced as a racist.

The left is of many different mind sets. Many of us are not pro biden but if you're on the right your only choice is absolute adoration and submission to trump, PERIOD! That's a mob mindset. Just wait, when trump gets on a roll again doing his insult comedy tour over the next few months. Violent politically charged crimes from the right will be on the uptick significantly. Danny Elfman doesn't pander too trump and his cultist base. He wants free thinkers not people who seek a big daddy figure to do all their thinking for them.

@@jeremyserwer2586 Even Danny doesn’t think that Trump is quite a fascist dictator. He is an idiot savant at causing chaos and inciting violence (I never even heard of Antifa until Trump came around; if I didn’t know better I would have thought they were Trump’s Brownshirts) and driving the mainstream media crazy and bringing out the worst in them. And he had some very dangerous people on his team, including the types of people that want the same kind of theocracy that Danny describes in “No Spill Blood” (a Noahide theocracy). But he just plain sucks at being a fascist. He had Reichstag fire moments handed to him on a silver platter and he failed to take full advantage of them. He could have invoked the Insurrection Act to stop the Antifa violence, like Bush did in 1992. He didn’t. Any competent fascist would have taken advantage of the pandemic to seize power. I’d say he’s maybe what you can call an anarcho-fascist in that he promotes the kind of anarchy that can lead to a fascist later coming to power. And the riot of January 6th honestly made the Beer Hall Putsch look like Napoleon’s conquest of Europe. I’d blame that partly on mass censorship of a lot of the more reasonable right wingers but not Qanon for some reason which put them in a Qanon echo chamber, as well as the Facebook algorithm that reinforces echo chambers. Perhaps they thought they could get away with it after seeing all the riots being encouraged by the mainstream media. Nobody batted an eye when poor people had their homes and businesses burned down but now when a bunch of pampered ass Congress people are threatened everyone loses their minds? I don’t agree with their cause AT ALL but at least they identified the correct target. These are the people that Danny literally calls “Insects” in his newest video, can you blame the Qtards for wanting to stomp them even if for the wrong reasons? I’m on the left myself but I think that antifascism is being promoted by the Woke CIA for sinister motives that I’m not sure about yet. Maybe they plan on installing A Black Hitler or something crazy like that. But I think that they want to serve fascism to America wrapped in a rainbow flag and carrying a cross with George Floyd nailed to it. I would have preferred Bernie Sanders but I voted Biden in the general election because I think he will put some calamine lotion on this Antifa herpes infection.

@@mackfarlainethebarenakedau5113 He does though. He's been open about it outside of his music. He's open to the point that it doesn't get him in trouble. I don't think he supports Zionism for instance but he's probably afraid to bring that up.
