Comedy back then was really different to what comedy is now.

It's also important to underline the extraordinariness of the Divine Comedy from a linguistic point of view. The entire work is written in the style of a poem. Every verse has the same number of syllables, eleven, every single one of them. All verses of the entire masterpiece are grouped in blocks of three (called "terzine", like little thirds). The terzine have a very strict and complex rhyme scheme: ABA BCB CDC EDE and so on. This creates in the reader a feeling of flow of verses which is impossible to recreate in any translation.

This has to be turned into a VR game with multiple-choice dialogue...

You forgot to mention the actual punishment in the circle of Lust. It had a never-ending storm raging that would sweep up the sinners, and smack them into each other, symbolic of how they'd throw themselves unto one another in life.

His one issue is his hatred for Greek mythical hero's and his total loyalty to all Roman heroes. It's funny seeing how he deals with the ones that the Romans converted into their own versions.

In Italy, we have to study all of the three parts of Dante's journey, across the last three years of highschool. I believe this is one of the best things ever written by a human being. PS: Virgil was the poet who wrote the "Aeneid", and was considered to be the best writer ever by Dante: he was such a fanboy

As an Italian myself, who was born and lives in Florence and takes Dante (the greatest poet in Italian literature and one among the greatest in all of literature in general) and his Divina Commedia as a source of infinite pride, I have to say you guys have done a fantastic job, especially when it comes to the *amazing* artwork you made. When it comes to the narration, it was a bit shallow, but that's not to take anything whatsoever away from all the work you put into this: The Divine Comedy is so rich, complex, majestic, packed with analogies and lessons on life and Christian faith, that a KZfaq video would have to be a week long just to fully explain Inferno alone. You guys told this story as a fairytale, and that's totally ok. However, we must not forget that the Comedy is *way* more than just a good story: it is a lesson of life, an insight to Dante's voyage, from the beginning in the dark forest, which represents his mid-life crisis, to the Highest Skies of Heaven, where Dante finally meets the Heavenly Light of God and finds the Faith he had lost. The Comedy shows us the corruption of Society, as Dante puts both politicians and clerks in Hell alike and doesn't shy away from expressing his political views. The Comedy is a pearl of literature, the meaning of which goes way deeper than you think. Can't wait for part 2 & 3 ❤️

I recommend reading "Inferno" by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle, if you haven't already. It's a modern take on Dante's Inferno, written by authors mostly known for science fiction. It's a damn good read.

I find two things interesting about this tale: 1. Despite being rooted in judeochristian lore the story sure takes a lot of influence from Greek mythology, basically making both intersect in a shared universe. 2. Greek heroes that were praised for being cunning and clever in Greek myths, are ostracized in this tale for being considered mischievous from a Christian perspective at the time

Last read the Divine Comedy 4 years ago. Dante was obsessed with a woman named Beatrice. She plays a significant mention in all 3 parts. The most interesting is the Inferno. But you mustn’t stop there. Purgatory & Paradise are necessary to understand the entire piece. It is a lengthy read as it is full of unfamiliar language. You will be able to understand it, but you won’t be able to just skim through. Patience and time are required.

I’ve read the Divine Comedy 3 times. It is a brilliant allegory of our journey through life with all it’s ups and downs.

I havent read this classic in a long time. Thanks for going through many highlights, or I should say lowlights, of this incredible journey.

Wonderful video, here in Italy we do study "La Divina Commedia" in high shcool reading all the book. We do study inferno in the third year, purgatorio in the forth and paradiso in the fifth. All in the original 15th century italian

The Divine Comedy is one of the pieces of classical literature that has always fascinated and interested me the most. It is very cool to see how the people from that time period imagined hell to look like, even if Dante probably put some of his own flavor in there.
