Instead of those beautiful, angelic, humanoids the bible depicts bizarre animal/human hybrids, fiery winged beasts and wheels made of eyes. It isn't certain, but most believe that they are descendants of mythical beasts across the Ancient Near East.

I personally think they’re beautiful. If God made them perfectly to his liking, then they’re not ugly or monstrosities as his omnipotence and knowledge expands far beyond our comprehension to make such a judgment. I have no reason to view them anything other than beautiful.

(Genuinely asking, not trying to be sarcastic 😊) Edit: As I am contemplating this I am realizing I don’t believe any living creature is truly “ugly.” Yes, some are very off putting and gross you out, while others are more pleasing to the eye. However, there is beauty in any living creature, even if only for the fact that it exists, because they look the way they do for a purpose. All of their features (and all of ours for that matter) have a very specific reason for being there, and that really is beautiful. Surely the most “beautiful” human would be “ugly” to other creatures if only they could say so!

@@Vor567tez He’s often depicted as an attractive man with white wings (as he was said to be the angel of light since his name translates to “Light Bearer”) but he’s also sometimes depicted as a snake or a dragon although I think that’s only after he fell. Most people tend to agree that Lucifer was a seraph as an angel, possibly because seraph roughly translates to “burning one” which would link to Lucifer being the bringer of light.

I do wonder about things like "covered in eyes", were they actual eyes or was "eyes" the closest description that could be thought of? Then we re-draw them from the literary description and make something creepy.

Well ancient people is most likely describing the closest thing they know to compare. Also depends on the person. It could be something of a jewel-like object with something inside of it. If these people say our modern day camera, they may think its an eye as well and modern people carry few eyes in our pockets, eyes on the streets, houses and front of a glowing frame. Likely what they seen is so abstract to them which is perfectly make sense, since something heavenly means something out of this world and interdimensional.

Interesting thought. But I do believe that the descriptions given are not all literal, since it’s a bit naive to think so. Even modern humans today sometimes describe things in a non-literal sense and rather symbolically. I assume ancient humans are even likelier to use such symbolism.

I've always found it funny that the term 'Biblically-accurate angels' isn't that accurate, as it only really refers to Seraphim, Cherubim and Ophanim. The rest of the angel classes are very human looking

My point is, as primitive as the israelites were during that period, would see a modern car and think it was some sort of demonic beast. I grew curious about Ophanim angels shorts popping up in my feed few days ago so I wanted to know about them more than "I would rather have these angels protecting me over babies." I don't know a thing about bible or christianity so I had no way to know if that's the whole picture or not. Glad that I searched it up. This video sums the information in a simple manner. I am really surprised there's hierarchy in angels and this whole thing is based on which group of angels interact with humans and which group stays back like a boss sending his employees to work. That’s what they look like in the Spiritual Realm, when they take on The Material realm looking as a Human, some of that Non-Human look stays with them, but not in all cases, Depending on this Angel, plus the Rank Of the Angel, For Example When Jesus Christ was resurrected, The 2 Angels in the Cave were supposed to look like young Males, with clothes so Brilliant and Pure, that they shed light out of them, That’s one example which of the Spiritual realm Light, or pureness stayed with them.

I believe the Ophanim's appearance to Ezekiel (being wheel-like, and being four of them) was supposed to look like a massive chariot. "Their movement never varies as they go", so I imagine they moved in a similar way and to the same direction (just like pairs of wheels). Even because Ophanim's name is often referred to/translated as "Thrones", which supports the idea of a Chariot (that carries the throne of God). With four angels around it, as if escorting/bodyguarding the throne.

I thought it depended on where they placed in the hierarchy. The higher, the less human. The most commonly seen in meme culture are Ophanim (also known as wheels, singular is ophan), Cherubim (singular: cherub), and Seraphim (my personal favourite, singular is seraph).

I love how you describe how Biblically literal angels are really like. Mainly the Cherubim and the top two hierarchy of angels, thank you so much for this great explanation of this. That being said, there is a little BIG problem with your video: As in Exodus and repeated in the Haggadah, it was G-d HIMSELF who went throughout Egypt to kill the first born, NOT the angel of death. Wow, this makes Sephiroth’s True Form as the One-Winged Angel, feel like something straight out of Disney, than how the Bible describes them, in a very, unfathomable, kind of way. A bitnodd, that you chose the "Flower Duet" from "Lakme" as the intro and outro music for this video just because it's classical, but isn't related to angels or anything like it. I wonder, i f some of the descriptions may be distorted by translation errors...? For example I was thnking for the Cherubim, it might be "heads" instead of "faces". So it would be a four-headed creature, with wings relating to each of the heads. And for the other ones similar shifts or inaccuracies in translation/meaning could apply. But nevertheless I do think that some altered state of perception, be it psychedelics or natural trance or hallucinations due to existential stress, panic, anxiety, may have played a role.

While there are some angels depicted in very bizarre forms in the Bible, there are probably far more who appear as normal human beings. The angels who appeared to the apostles at the Ascension for example were indistinguishable from ordinary people other than their white clothes.

But i gasped watching this video: some 20 to 25 years ago (i'm 70), i had this intense dream, that angels were attacking the earth, spinning like giant buzzsaws. They would dive into the earth, disappearing for a few seconds, then emerging back into the air, buzzsawing all the way. They were multicolored, but predominently copper-hued. Quite terrifying. I hear the descriptions and I cant help but to imagine this as flying technology... maybe even biomechanics! Wheels with in wheels sound like perpetual motion.... angels with 6 wings, 2 over their feet, 2 over its face and 2 taking flight sounds exactly like an armored spacecraft. Multiple variations of starcraft, to accomplish multiple tasks... ❤

I would really like to see a multidimensional model of these! E.g. when all four faces looks at you simultaneously. Also one of the arts at the beginning is really Bilibin style -- liked it a lot.
