Painkillers, especially nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen, can adversely affect the kidneys by reducing blood flow to these vital organs, leading to kidney damage or dysfunction. Prolonged or excessive use of painkillers can cause acute kidney injury or even chronic kidney disease. NSAIDs inhibit enzymes involved in kidney function regulation, leading to fluid and electrolyte imbalances and potentially causing kidney complications. Additionally, long-term NSAID use can elevate blood pressure, further stressing the kidneys. Proper dosage and duration of painkiller use, along with regular monitoring of kidney function, are crucial to mitigate these risks and preserve kidney health.
