I was in USMC bootcamp and the guy in the bunk above me said he was Sherrie’s brother. We all thought he was full of shit. A few weeks later he got a photo with him, his family, his sister (who is the real girl in the video - the real Sherrie) and Steve Perry at Thanksgiving. Great videos guy

I love that you get to see his personality in this one! He is a very genuine person, I’ve met him a few times at San Francisco Giants games (he is a huge fan and sings during the 7th inning stretch) often. Don’t Stop Believing” is kind of their theme song.

That is Sherrie Swafford. She is Steve’s real girlfriend in this song. This song was written for her...she’s just beautiful and they were such an adorable couple. Please react to Strung Out next or Separate ways (worlds apart) videos. The people all came to sit on the stairs because Steve is the real show not the make believe stuff. He’s the real deal.

I heard this song at a coffee shop couple years ago and it made me a huge Steve Perry fan. He’s got the most beautiful voice in rock history. I read that he gave the royalties of this song to Sherrie in the video who was his serious girlfriend for over 5 years.

Yes, that was Steve's then girlfriend 'Oh Sherrie'. According to Perry himself, 'they were crazy in love!!' They met at a party, Perry was with his date and she was with her's! And they left the party together!!...lol... To this day, Sherrie and Steve are still good friends!

Sherrie was Steve's long time girlfriend at the time. He wrote this song for Sherrie and despite their breaking up after about 6 years together, Steve considered this song hers and she still receives the royalties to this song. The acapella open with just Steve singing was patterned after the Four Tops Song Bernadette as Steve puts it. There is acapella break in the song by them and Steve thought it was a cool way to start Oh Sherrie.

He and Sherrie had their own separate tour bus during Journey’s tour for their 1983 Frontiers album. After the tour, he decided to record his solo album Street Talk. This song and Foolish Heart were both hit songs from the album.

This is why I don't put too much stock in Music Videos; often times it's a director's "vision" and will have little to nothing to do with the song, and usually nothing to do with the meaning according to the song writer. Music, like all art, is subjective to the one taking it in. 😁

You need to check Something to Hide. Journey only did it live a couple of times because the vocals are SO DEMANDING it really couldn't be done night after night on tour. So the only videos are the song to pictures. But SO worth checking out. Also, Mother, Father from the 1981 Escape tour filmed in Houston, TX. The vocals at the end are from another world!!!

Sherrie Swafford , his girlfriend at the time, is in the video. She was a jealous woman and couldnt handle the lifestyle and stress of being the most wanted man! She was very jealous of the woman in the video Separate Ways and it starting causing problems among Steve and the band. Their relationship finally came to an end. Steve gave her all the proceeds to this song and video! The song belongs to her. They are still friends today and neither were ever married. On his album Traces in 2018 some songs throw a bit of "Traces" of her and Steves relationship. The grey hat she puts on his head at the end of the Oh Sherrie video makes it's way into the video of his 2018 video of No Erasin'! Please react to his solo song Strung Out, it is one of my favorites!

It's a shame you never saw Steve live, I'm still feeling sorry for myself for not seeing him live but three times. I was like a deer caught in headlights .. I couldn't move. TOTALLY mesmerized. Steve is hypnotic. I've been to hundreds of concerts, literally... Steve was flawless. 💗✌😎

Steve Perry has never been married. Sherry was his girlfriend’ at that time and yes the song was for her. Soon after this video they broke up and he stayed single for years. He then was making another video of some sort and met another that he feel in love with but then was told she had cancer. She just about 1-year ago passed away. Now Steve is on his own. He had promised her be for her passing that he would sing again and has put out a new Album. Check it out. I myself am a big fan and have seen them many times. What a great band And Steve are, but have not heard Steves new Album. Thanks great video my friend.

Yes him and Sherrie the girl in the video were together for 10 years i believe they broke up after this album right before the start of him rejoining Journey and his mother died at the same time. Raised on Radio probably was his best vocal performance

Yes that was Steve's women. This song was my brothers and his high school sweetheart song. Her name was Sherry. She died in a car accident.

Perry walked away from music for a lot of years starting in the late 80's when he was at his peak and beloved by millions. His voice was a big part of my pre-teen and teenage years. Image what people felt back then when he dropped off the radar. It was heartbreaking to not have him around for so long.

Steve Perry has never been married. I think whatever happened in his parents marriages effected him. He always mentions in interviews that they were divorced when he was young boy. Steve’s voice is like no other.

What made Steve write "Oh Sherrie"? Interesting Story. Journey was recording the video for "Separate Ways", another great one you should react to if you haven't already, and Sherrie was so jealous that they had another woman in the video. She was giving Steve such a hard time, that Steve told the guys, "I'm going to have to write her a song." So...that's why we got "Oh Sherrie". Steve gave Sherrie the rights to it. He says she might be able to buy a cup of coffee with it. lol This actually wasn't Sherrie's favorite song off of Steve's "Street Talk" album. It was "Foolish Heart". That's not how Perry wrote the song! According to Perry himself. He said that he and his writing partner friend was in the middle of writing some song. Sherrie was getting tired and it was very late in the late. She then got up and told Perry that she was going to bed, as she was walking away. Perry said to her......'Oh Sherrie!' (as if saying.....babe just wait alittle longer, we're almost done!'). She continued to walk away. Perry said that he 'then looked at his writing partner and said ...... that's a song!!' And that's where 'Oh Sherrie' was written. I will agree that 'Captured By The Moment' was a GREAT song!!!

@@reneeheknowsmyname6771 You're talking about when Steve actually got around to writing the song. Yes, he got together with Randy Goodrum to help him write it. Steve brought Randy a tape with just a bunch of gibberish that Steve had been putting together and Randy and Steve wrote it together. It got late and Sherry went to bed and then they finished it. Both Steve and Randy have said the same thing about the actual writing of it. Steve himself told the story about why he decided to do it. You should listen to the recording of them making it. It is awesome!!! I would share it on here, but it isn't a YT video, so YT won't let me share it here. You can find it on soundcloud.

Yep, like others have said, that was his long time girlfriend. They did eventually split, but they were together for a while. And Steve Perry isn't an actor, so that utter joy and happiness in his face when he sings directly to her and when he's embracing her is totally real.

No Steve and her were together for years, but she cheated on him while he was on tour, but neither of them got married, but Steve has like 5 kids. Sherry passed away in 2011 .I Believe. But they stayed close. RIP SHERRY CROFERED.

Steve has one daughter, named Shamilla, and two grandsons. Sherrie is very much alive. His girlfriend Kellie Nash died from cancer in 2012.
