A symbiotic relationship perhaps? But then it doesn’t make sense that there is a lack of wild life around harvesters. It should be the oposite. Abundance of plants and protection from predators would be the perfect environment for small animals

honestly what I love about Vita Carnis: sure it's super natural to some degree, but it primarily revolves around taking elements of nature and creating creatures that could plausibly exist in real life (except for maybe the monolith). The harvester is my favourite monster due to how well thought out it is in its interaction with nature as a fictional wild living organism.

@@catherinedubov9876 Context clues such as the the prince being in a cave and the only cave like area we've seen being the tunnel with the giant snake. The prince also talks about "the creatures" as if they are much smaller and different from itself, this wouldn't make sense for a meat creature to say about other meat creatures. There are only a handful of meat creatures we've seen that are so big it's worth mentioning how small a human looks to them and the giant humanoid monoliths aren't gonna be found in any caves. There are implications that the giant meat snake was being fed tons of dead bodies by the locals which fits with the story of the creatures making a deal with the prince iirc.

I think it can be considered “horror” as it’s an analogue sorta feel to it. It’s also got the fear factor of not knowing what “really” lies beneath the surface, not just what we’re being told. The fact that certain “names” or “places” in these documentaries are censored out is to add the fear of the higher ups knowing more than the audience

The Harvesters remind me a lot of the Jubokko; it’s a Japanese urban legend about a kind of tree, usually appearing in battlefields where many have died, and that tree forms its branches into sharp tubes, and begins to suck up the blood of the dead bodies until there’s nothing but bones left.

this is probably my fav out of the vita carnis species, it has such a unique and brutal way of attack. also the harvester seems like it would be a nuisance to farmers as it could grow in the middle of their fields and overtake crops. i also wonder if it is easy to get rid of, it doesnt move and is easy to avoid if you stay a far distance from it plus it’s bulb doesnt look that tough. if i were to get rid of it i would use tools you can use from long range, like firearms to prevent getting turned into a meal.
@sentane8031

It wouldn't overtake crops, it would use them as camo. Some poor farmer would see a mass in his field, think it was some animal eating his crops, then die when the harvester stings him. Unless he understood what it was and handled it carefully (with fire and help from the authorities).

It might just pop your tires with its tentacles, then you'll be stranded. It is no problem because you can just shot it lol- however authorities seem to have trouble dealing with it so maybe it has defensive measures against threats that go for the bulb? Maybe the bulb is like really tough or smth.

I think you can survive a harvester, also surprised there no anti-venom. I would of expected humans to milk those spines like they do with other poisonous animals like snakes, jellyfish and fish with poisonous spines. Paralysis is the most brutal aspect, however if you are just hit with the spine which only stops clotting, you can survive bleeding out via cauterizing the wound. So you just need a lighter on you. Idk how long the paralysis is neither the dose, as long as you can get free of the spine and get out of that region in the first few seconds I think you could survive, especially if you have a friend with you. I'm surprised the death rate is 100%.

Once I was taking a hike in a forest while living in Japan and I saw a medium-sized cluster of some kind of red berry sticking out from some bushes. I took a photo and then left cause it looked a little weird. It was too small to be a harvester but I’m still glad I left it alone. (And stepping outside of the Vita Carnis universe now, I’ve tried to look up descriptions of berries in Japan but I still have no idea what kind of berry it was. Probably not good to eat though)

there is no need to have a huge bulb like that overground, just grow underground and stay 100% hidden

i think their skin is very durable, its made of the same meat all other creatures are made out of and you can hear in other videos that that exact skin is very tough to damage. but i agree with you, it could still be destroyed by a few methods, for example burning? so if it stayed underground it would literally be so op and literally unkillable. but as we know evolution is not perfect. there are sometimes traits that are neautral/not really beneficial or even harmful for the organism. but as long as the animal survives, they're gonna pass that trait on to their genetic offspring (the meat vines are still gonna produce the harvesters the same way) because that's how they evolved and didn't entirely die, so they'll stay that way.
@dieg0639

the toxins produced by the harvester could be used for medicinal purposes if harvested (pun intended). the spines of the absorbing tendril could also be studied for use in pipes, needles and other implements of that nature. the energy-conserving behaviour wards predators away, so poultry/egg-farming is another option. very useful, not just for waste disposal. still quite risky. 8/10.
