I’m a social work student and we literally have the same problems. Like unrealistic expectations, hard exams, and being graded extremely hard in seminars.

I think nursing school is meant to instill discipline. I completely understand why. If you can make it through nursing school then you have shown your ability to be a competent nurse.

SOOO true in nursing school they made it out like we as nurses had to know everything when it came to taking care of the patient or catching critical things when in real life the whole team is there for you and your never alone! but at the same time school made it seem more clinical but as you said at bedside I feel like a servant!

I completely relate to feeling like a “glamorized server” 😂 During one of my clinicals in nursing school I came to the realization that we are just “professional maids”. Still believe it now working in the ER because I am on my feet all day and basically answering all call lights, changing patients, meeting family requests, and just following orders. For this reason I am going to go back to school to become a provider.

This was probably the best video I’ve listened to! At first I was applying for jobs and accepting contingent positions based on where my classmates were going because of the comfort and security but it was not the unit I was really interested in. I decided to accept something that fits my personality and the environment I really liked. Now I just need to pass the NCLEX😅

girl. I went into nursing because I hateeddddd serving. so when you mentioned that nursing seems like a “glorified server” my heart broke, that’s far from what i want. I have one year left and everything I see on social media is negative(besides the influencers who glorify nursing). i chose nursing because I can become an RN in 2 years, stable income, comfortable life, flexibility, and so I don’t have to wait on tables anymore. it’s like I chose the wrong thing :( this is something I thought I wanted so bad and I can’t just quit and turn around. please tell me nursing is better than serving because having 8 tables at once every single day was the most stressful thing ever.

Look into over the phone triage nursing (like ask a nurse hotlines). Most of those jobs require experience though. Honestly, your best bet would be to work in a clinic setting.

Honestly in bedside nursing some days are crazy and feel like ur serving 8 tables as where other days it’s not that bad and more chill. Depending on what unit you choose there’s good and bad. Also the beginning of ur nursing career will be very stressful bc it’s a learning curve but it gets better! Also nursing has a lot of opportunities and you don’t have to stay in bedside nursing forever

Hi love bug 💕 i’m just reading your comment and I am so sorry for worrying you, that was not my intention at all🥺 I definitely agree with what everyone had to stay in the comments down below and I would say the same thing. Unfortunately there are some days that I do feel like I’m serving eight tables, I used to be a server myself at IHOP so I KNOOOOWWWW the struggle. Lol but to be honest every job is stressful in its own ways and some days are better than others. The one thing that I love about Nursing is that it is so diverse that eventually you will find your niche, but you do have to go through some dislikes after nursing school to get to where you want to be and that’s okay!. Everyone always says that the first year of nursing is the hardest and I do agree, but after that year of experience it gets so much better. Give yourself some grace, you’re doing the best you can and I’m so proud of you 🥹💖💖🙏🏽

Thank you!! I am 55 yrs old and I have worked with some of the best nurses and doctors in the world, I have learned so much more doing that, then going to nursng school. Not that I don't appreciate the school and classes," the education." In my community there is not a fast track, hands on school that teaches world experience. In college they don't teach this. They don't teach the real experience, rather they teach you to fear the experience of it all. The most annoying thing they do is have "weed out" classes to help control the amount of students that actually get in to the nursing programs! really! with the shortage of nurses going on in the world! Rather than working together with surrounding communties that have colleges in their cities to accomadate and spread the potiential nursing students around , they decide to drop you from the get go! As if you are not good enough! So then you choose another profession instead of waiting another semester to try again! Just plain stupid, because some of us older people were fortunate to be able to work in a world that allowed us to be trained on the job and we worked as medical assistants and pharmacy techs as well as medics and we could stand on our own two feet and make decisions and follow orders. we had real worldly experience and great bedside manners and weren't afraid of hard work or long days. We didn't need college to teach us to give injections, do ekgs, take vitals, take histories, and work side by side a doctor and actually assist in procedures, give medications, make refills, draw blood, all of it can be safely taught and can be learned with assistance! and this was in a time that nothing was premeasured and computerized.Everything was done manually! It is so much easier now with all the premeasured doses and computers. A child can do it as long as they know how to run a computer and machines. The doctor makes all the decisions and a nurse takes the orders. Empathy and staying calm allows you to make common sense decisions as you work your patient load. And yes experience is the best when it comes to working, but the worst when it comes to school because it is not taught that way.

A girl in my clinical group had a small nose ring that was 100% covered by her face mask which she obviously kept on at all times in the clinical setting. We had our lunch break in a small room completely away from all patients or staff, and she pulled her mask down to eat. The instructor saw her nose ring and wrote her up. 😑

After 6.5 years, I recently left bedside. Thankfully found a job that uses my RN license but not bedside. You definitely get burnt out. Your pay is no longer worth it. One time me and my coworkers were talking and we were reminiscing, “Remember in nursing school when you’d follow someone in clinical and they were so grumpy and you didn’t understand. You now understand. You are THAT nurse now.” Definitely learn and understand what all those nurses you followed were going through.

I’m almost done with nursing school and all of these frustrations are already starting for me. Where I live, nurses get payed between $14/$16. Some nurses that aren’t at hospitals are only making $8.50hr. It’s actually ridiculous seeing how much responsibility we have and we don’t get a fair salary. Each nurse has so many patients and hospitals don’t have enough supplies for us to do our job. It’s so depressing.

Nursing school these days is only to prepare you to take the NCLEX. You only go to school M - F day shift. Back in the day the students worked all shifts and weekends including leaning to be charge nurse as a senior student. We didn't have computer assisted devices and needed to know pharmacology, dosing and solutions. I recommend that you stop referring to your viewers as "you guys" and talk to people as mature adults. Stop whining and consider ways to contribute to make your job more satisfying.
