Darjeeling Himalayan Railway P2

The first part of the video shows arrivals, departures and shunting movements around Darjeeling station and engine shed (featuring B Class steam locos and NDM6 Diesel locos).
The second part of the video was filmed from the train hauled by a B Class loco between Darjeeling and Ghum (and return) showing the juxtaposition of road, rail, buildings and people!
Finally, film shot from the train in the dark on a Darjeeling Tours Ltd Evening Dining Charter train between New Jalpaiguri and Rangtong. The loco, struggling at times, finally succumbs before Rangtong is reached. All filmed in March 2018.

Gone are the days when we watched the little steam engine chug with all its might and hear that cute whistle. It was an engineering marvel.

I never knew this system existed. What I love about YT is the adventures one can take from an easy chair. Thanks to people like you; we are able to travel the world and fulfill our dreams and desires and see things otherwise beyond our own experiences. Amazing video. Thoroughly enjoyed. Relic from not so long ago compared to human history that changed the world. Harvesting the power of steam changed the world trade political and social structures. Good to see this stretch still running. Good reminder of industrial evolution. Should be maintained for as long as possible.

Those little work horses must be over 100 years old and still going strong, and yet we build diesel and electric locos that don't last 5 minutes. Bring back steam.

As much as nice as it looks.. Im getting put off by the smoke that's rising into the atmosphere. This is a heritage that needs to be preserved and greener alternatives should be introduced

I went to Darjeeling twenty five years ago. At a Tibetan, New Year party, my vegan wife inadvertently drank brandy out of a human skull that was also used in ceremonies involving semen and menstrual blood, and I got to tell her. That was the best day of our marriage!
