Loved this makeover! There are some comments saying that it doesn’t match the rest of Danny’s home but personally I kind of like that! I feel like when you have a large enough home with multiple rooms it can be fun to creat kind of like a “hidden gem” that’s different than the overall flow. Especially since it’s a guest room, which usually doesn’t have a lot of foot traffic on a day to day basis. Love it!!

The unfinished wood pieces and baskets and the bedding don’t say dark academia. It seems disjointed and the wall paper could have been elevated by some thin trim moulding to finish the ragged edges. Beautiful wallpaper, sconces and rug.

A neater finish for that wallpaper... Crease the edge as you did with that tool (or with the edge of some scissors), then while it's still wet, pull it away from the wall a little and cut along that creased line with scissors, and smooth it down. This is how we do it in the UK. I like what you've done with the room, it's dark and moody. I don't really see 'British' in it at all, and it's so vastly different from Danii's 'Farmhouse' style in the rest of her home.

Pasted wallpaper is supposed to be “booked” . The paste is applied to the back of the paper and then you fold it end to end. Let is sit for 15 minutes and then hang the section. And repeat. Also all wallpapering starts with a plumb line. Keeps things on track .
@patriciashayes5929

Please acquire all the proper wallpaper hanging tools, research all the proper steps, and promise, promise, promise, that you will only hang wallpaper absolutely perfectly, correctly, and properly in future. I’m sorry, but can these people not get on KZfaq and at least try to learn to do things the right way?? When I go to do something I haven’t done before, such as hanging wallpaper, I research to learn how to do it before I start. That’s just me in my own home. I can’t even imagine going to someone else’s new home and jumping in and start making semi-permanent changes without knowing what I was doing. And then to top it all off they film it and post it on KZfaq!?! I don’t get it.

For me, everything looks good up until she added the light wood coat hangers, bench, and baskets. I feel like they do not compliment the dark academia mood she's aiming for. ☹️ I understand the need to mix up styles to prevent it from being boring. But I feel like adding boho/rustic items are a bit underwhelming if you're trying to achieve elegant/moody vibes.

What is so great about an upstairs attic-style nook of a room is the washy light that happens when you're closer to the sky. The dark green just demolishes any hopes for feeling like you are up and away. I love the color and the boldness but not for an attic room. In my opinion it's way too heavy and bold for a space that should feel like a cream puff. But I do love that chair!

First time disappointed 😞. In my opinion, I think you missed the mark on that "old lady" wall paper and also that "country hanging wall rack". Neither one goes with the "Dark Academia " theme much less "farmhouse " vibe. IMO, a rich, textured wall paper for headboard and wall rack in brass or darker wood, maybe with metal hooks, would have been more cohesive with the rest of your design 🤔

I think it's kinda like they used to say in What Not To Wear... it doesn't have to match, it just has to go! I think the different shades of green work together quite well. But then it's a question of personal taste as well! Not everyone will like that chair color, for sure... xD I love it, but I'm aware it would be controversial to many. lol

It’s a little off, especially with the striped bed linen. A more dark academia choice would have been either a purple velvet or cognac leather arm chair. (In fact none of the furniture, bench, bedside tables or armchair scream farmhouse/vintage/dark academia to me, it’s actually quite mid century which clashes with the theme). I mean it looks fine, it’s just a little too mix and match for my taste.

This. Is. So. Gorgeous! At first I thought painting the whole room in such a dark colour would "strike it dead" (literally translated from german), I love dark colours and am thus very positively surprised that it works so fantastically! I love the entire style of this room with its little antiques and the cushy chair and the bold wallpaper! Thank you so much for sharing this!

I honestly don't know what you all are banging on about. It makes way, way more sense to take the wall colour up to the ceiling than it does to paint the small-ish ceiling space a different colour. It's a no-brainer. That's a seriously gorgeous colour btw. I am currently nearing the end of my tiny house build and I fully intend to paint my little "dollhouse" in the same way.

Hi, Alexandra! I don’t normally comment but after seeing a surprising number of negative comments so early after posting I wanted to say I really appreciate you trying a new style! Your commenters are always pushing you to do something different and this is definitely it and super trendy right now. It’s true that it doesn’t go with the rest of danie’s house but she was happy with the result and called it a getaway so I don’t think viewers need to get hung up on the statement of the room. It’s great to see you challenging yourself and becoming a more diverse designer! Experimentation is key to any creative journey.

I don’t think people are being negative as they are just not agreeing with some of her choices and have different opinions, of which they are entitled to. Many of the “negative comments” also compliment her trying something new. But people are allowed to not like something or agree with a design choice and not be a “hater.”

@@hannahjacobs1014 I watched the video within 20 min of posting and at that point around half of the comments were negative, and not all were constructive. Quite a few commented specifically on not being happy that she did a different style. I’m supportive of constructive criticism but if half the comments on your video are telling you they don’t like what you posted sometimes even the helpful criticism can burn a bit, so I offered a bit of support. I don’t know if Alexandra reads her comments that early on but in case she did I wanted her to know her efforts were appreciated. Thankfully they comments have turned more positive and constructive since then.

I love the old floors and the wall color. I’d wax the floor before putting down the rug so it would preserve the floor a little. Then touch up the areas that get walked on and the wax wear down. It really brings out the beauty of the old wood. I used to wax the floors in the heavy traffic areas once a year for a client I used to clean for. It just made the wood pop with really minimal effort.

Helloooo!!! I know this is an old video, but I have been seeing this all over color trend; ceiling and all, for quite some time, and I am a huge fan!!! I am only about 10 minutes into the video, but in the images I’ve seen where this is done, I feel like the rooms always look bigger and more modern and very in the “now”!! I haven’t seen anything even close to the end result yet, but I think you made a fantastic choice with the bold, all over color!! My husband and I are getting ready to move into our own very first home, and I can not WAIT to play with color and not have to be accountable to anyone but myself for the first time ever!! We have been renting the same single family house for 17 years and our landlord has been very strict and no fun at all. The best part about what you’re doing, is that if you’re not in love with it, it’s just paint and very easily can be changed back to anything you want at any time!! Have fun and experiment with color! I can not WAIT to see how this transforms your guest bedroom!!! -Nora

It looks cozy and the slanting ceiling/wall recedes into the background. Maintaining some of the articles from the past like the oil lamps and vintage pictures creates the mood. Dark Academia can be very beautiful but, in my opinion, mostly in living rooms or libraries, never in a bedroom. I don't think I could get proper rest and relaxation in such a dark and busy room. I love the paint color and the moody/cozy vibe, applauding the courage to jump off the cliff of all white walls/pink touches/tassels...I would not call any of this Old World but I think the nightstands work in a WWII UK sort of way, I can see Danie doing one of her accents...The expanding coatrack, basket, bedding, bench, and other touches...not so much. Maybe those were an attempt to fuse farmhouse with dark academia? That paint color demanded totally different bedding. The rug would have been great in another color that related somehow. On the plus side, you are GLOWing, Alexandra! Your skin looks amazing and I so appreciate you being open to new styles. Please don’t be too discouraged there is a lot of good stuff here, it just seems like some of it belongs in other rooms.
