I AM SO SHOCKED WITH HOW AWESOME THIS ROOM TURNED OUT!!!
In this video I will be turning my plain room into a dark academia dream! I will be going over all the decor items I found for my room, where they are from, some design tips and I'll be creating a DIY gallery wall that only cost me only $7.
⚠️PSA: The candles in this video were lit for filming purposes only and I do not advise you to light your candles in the same way! Please opt for flameless candles (I listed the ones I use below) but If you do choose to light candles in your home please do it safely, never keep them unattended or near flammable items such as books, sheets, ect. ⚠️

my god for years I've been wondering what this aesthetic is. My ancestral home has this whole aesthetic and I absolutely loved it as a child even after I had long since emigrated. Especially since it had a study room with a massive oak desk and library, where me and my cousins all had lessons with our tutors ( we were homeschooled till secondary). Though now I'm all grown up I realise that apparently my childhood is weird. Probably because my family is quite traditional since we're all doctors or lawyers haha except me

@@skoz3342 Thanks! It just goes to show how old fashioned my family is considering how ridiculously cool I thought flat screen tvs and ballpoint pens were when I moved to another country. It was pretty embarrassing 😳

@@sarahhavillamelooliveira5825 Yes it was mostly for educational purposes and I am from the Philippines! It's not really common to have private tutors there, unless you went to private schools as material is tough. It was mostly because my family thought it would be better to have our classes tailored as it would give us an advantage later on which was true. I was learning material years ahead of my grade and due to it I was able to start college early.

Just wanted to add a quick PSA about the use of candles in this video. I am in no way advising anyone to light candles in the way I choose to in my video. Candles were lit strictly for my shots and were blown out after. If you do choose to have candles in your home opt for flameless candles (this is what I use day to day) and if you do choose to have real candles, Please use with caution, do not leave candles unattended at anytime and keep them away from anything flammable.

I love what you did with the photos from the book. I have alot of books like that and its kind of unfortunate because I dont get to look at them often. I think thats such a good way to appreciate a photographers work in your house by displaying it.

right!!! it meshes with a lot of peoples daily lives already and now it has a name 🥰 I would definitely say just thrift anything and everything, its the best way to find antique gems that fit the aesthetic that won't break the bank. offer up, Facebook market place, Goodwill, eBay!!

As a retired professor, I didn't know this aesthetic was a 'thing' until recently. I think I've lived most of my life this way. I am going to buy the dark globe from Walmart. I've never seen one like it and I'm glad it's not huge - more placement potential. Very nice room makeover!

I love how much the decorations are things that can be found at thrift shops or antique stores, and even my grandma's guest room. She thinks it's interesting that people from my gen are into the furniture and decor she collected throughout her life. I feel more connected to her because of it as well.❤️

Use to be very confused on what my aesthetic was, and after a bit of going through tons of aesthetics I came across this one and it gives me this feeling, I don't know how to explain it but it's a good one. I love the room too, and I'm trying very hard to get my mom to make one with me for my room

I've been living this aesthetic my entire life. Even as a very young school kid I gravitated towards history and language. Then Dead Poets Society "happened to me" in 1994 as a 13 year old, and it cemented my love for it. Having had a lot of hard times due to long bouts of depression, I am finally in a place mentally and financially where I can make the changes to my living space that I want. I have tossed a lot of hand me down stuff that I had to accept because I didn't have the means to buy new stuff, and the process has been really fun and healing in a lot of ways. Ditched my old couch for a DIY pallet couch that actually fits my living room. I thrift a lot of furniture and accessories. Everything I do just adds to this feeling of belonging.

One of the ways I get around not putting holes in the wall is to used the backboard of bookshelves. Either using hooks or stickies to hang small frames in a collage or arrangements of small items, which gives it a sort of wunderkammer effect, especially if they're partially obscured by the books on the shelf.

Another good image tip is to use cabinet cards (the old style card mounted photographs popular in the Victorian and Edwardian era). I have lots of family ones but if you don’t, they’re often found cheaply in lots in thrift shops or on eBay.

I've dabbled in so many aesthetics, cottagecore, alternative, grunge, vintage, but it was always missing the essence I was looking for. It was dark academia all along. I'm working on my wardrobe rn, thank you so much for this video. I can never figure out where to get eclectic items like this. Now I just need to decide whether I'll make my room at my mom's or my room at my dad's dark academia.

Very nice, great job. Command hooks have weight limits listed on the package, they do not fall off, I use them all the time. I have a heavyweight one holding a mirror and lots of old frames. If you wanted the room to be darker or a different color Wayfair has peel and stick wallpaper that pulls right off when you move.

@@justlanchen No. You have to pull the tape down VERY slowly and it will get super long. If you yank it too hard or fast you might pull the paint off but I've never had it happen.

I definitely got lucky with a lot of the items but a really good place to find these is on eBay. You can get stuff on there for super cheap but you’ll have to wait about three months for it to ship to you if you want to get it for as little as possible 😅 still worth it though

I found it at my house a long time ago behind our washer when we moved, I have no idea where it came from as I only lived with my sister and it wasn’t her 😅😅

I’ve been doing this my whole life and now it’s a “thing”? Who knew being a nerd since birth would become something all the cool kids are trying now. I’d say I feel validated but that would against my nerdy don’t-care attitude. Anyway, wonderful video. Love the room!

I love, love, LOVE your room!! My aesthetic used to be cottagecore but I didn't like how bugs where annoying and creepy, etc. Like- Bloodyhell I got bitten 6 times in one night, and I really like dark academia and this year I'm gonna study more in school and try to get decent grades cause last year(freshmen year) It didn't go so well, and my weakest subject is math and I really wanna focus on that in school and also of course studying for test and all that! I want my room to be like yours a little, I like reading books and I want to watch 'How to kill your darling', 'A dead poets society' and 'Heartstoppers', my clothes are gonna be mostly male because I'm transmasc and I do want like those round glasses that Daniel Radcliffe wore in 'How to kill your darling'(I've seen the trailer), I do have black and white glasses but to me, I don't think they fit my face well.
