There is a funny story like that, she was made to apologize and give the customer anything she wanted for free and she decided to bring her whole family to have over $300 worth of merchandise for free, it was only supposed to be for her and she tried calling the manager who gave her the orders just to be screamed at, needless to say the manager got fired and the customer got banned

That's because it's not real. People often think this is some kind of rule or even a law. It's nothing but a saying created by Harry Selfridge way back when. And the complete phrase was "In matters of taste, the customer is always right." He was talking about fashion (let the customer buy whatever they want, who cares if it looks good on them or not). It was never meant to be applied to every single thing a customer wants. It's a shame so many managers give in to entitled idiots like this.

The second story with the AH night manager sounds like he he was angry about being disturbed and having to be called to do his job. I bet he was lazing about. What OP could realistically do is go over the Night Manager to his boss and say "I've been directed to give the customer whatever they want whenever they ask, this doesn't feel like it should be within the scope of my responsibilities because I also have a duty to help protect the business within the scope of my role. Can I have clarification of what I can and can't authorize on my own?" Then sit back and watch as things get clarified in NM's ass real quick.

3:45 I have been in the position of the manager who's getting grief from a Karen and just don't want to deal with it so I have said just give her the discount. It would really depend on my mood and how they asked... But after hearing how much it bothered the employee, and how she felt not getting backed up by management for doing the right thing I now see it's really an obligation to your crew to stand behind them for these confrontations, and in these posts I feel much more satisfaction when the Karen's are put in their place with overabundance of kindness and no compliance. I know now I shouldn't do the easy way out just because it's easier. Crew deserves better, and Karen's should learn some of us won't just be pushed over if you push hard and loud enough. Good lesson here.

The last story was a little close to home... I never had my birthday party commandeered by my sister, but I have two siblings, and all three of us have birthdays within 9 days of each other - in chronological order (youngest first, then middle, then me - oldest)! I'm sure packing so many birthdays so close together made it rough on my parents, but they completely and totally forgot my 13th birthday. Not even a card or a happy birthday. Re: Story 3 That night manager _Needs_ to be fired. By giving someone something for free/cheaper because they threw a hissy fit due to not understanding something, the manager is losing the store money... It always bugs me when managers put customers over the employees... Yeah, they give you money, but you're not getting that money without employees, genius. That's why you give them part of that money. I mean, if the *store* screws up, that's one thing, and it's appropriate for the store to make amends. If the customer is too stupid to read/understand the signage, that's not on them, not the store. Side note/fun fact: The phrase "the customer is always right" does NOT mean that the customer gets whatever they want; it's literally just an old slogan meaning that the customer will vote with their money, and can choose where to shop. ... Annoyingly, I've worked in a store and have seen this *exact* situation play out, having to personally spend several minutes explaining to a customer that "no, just because this looks like it's what's on sale doesn't mean it's on sale. No, our deal to give the item for free if the shelf price doesn't match the scanner doesn't apply because the shelf price you're pointing out is for a different item, and the price on the shelf for the item does match the scanner. No, a 32 pack of beer is NOT a 24 pack, and you're not getting it free because it doesn't match the price of the empty facing of 24 packs that was near it. No, not even if the 32 pack display was spilling over into the 24-pack facing. No, it's not false advertising, you just misread the tags. No, I'm not trying to call you stupid, etc. etc." I can see where the guy was coming from, and he wanted to save money... but come on. The tags literally say what they're for. I get that not everyone wants to read the ID numbers, but at least look at what a tag is for to make sure it's what you think it is! Of course, innocent misunderstandings happen too, and not everyone is horrible. I once helped an older man who was confused why one item on the receipt was twice as expensive (it was for two of the item, hence the doubled price. It was an honest mistake, since the indication that it's two of the item is pretty subtle if you're not looking super closely. He was plenty polite about it, too.)

I check SKU numbers against advertising and shelf tags before I get to the register. I worked grocery for 4 years, and one of the things that always, and I mean ALWAYS managed to piss off a customer, was when they picked up the giant in-house made containers of fruit that would normally be 5.99/lb, but when on sale, the sign would say 1.99...with a tiny/lb underneath the 1.99, so when I would ring it up, and it wouldn't be 1.99, but more, some of the customers would complain to me....and I would have to explain to them that it was 1.99/lb....it got to the point where I would just tell the customer that they were 1.99/lb BEFORE I scanned the item, as these things were usually super full, and removing one sometimes required a manager to come over and approve the removal.

But imagine if you were one of the guest and OP started crying and said "But this was supposed to be my birthday, so how come everything is about my sister today?" I bet someone would ask her what she means and then hearing "I hate horses, none of my friends were invited, and my sister even got to dress up like a princess on MY birthday!" Dunno how I would react as one of the guests... Would be quite pissed at her mom though, but what would I do about it? How do you fix your part in the horror?

I feel for you because it’s happened to me . I worked for a store called Caldors in New England and the managers said the same thing to us give what the customer wants and make them happy . The stuff customers would pull was astonishing like bringing back a used toilet seat dirty and wanted a refund lol. There was a man that came in that had burned a pot more like melted it and wanted a refund . People would steal clothes and come in and want a refund and they got it . Of course after years of this they closed their stores they were all over our state they must have had 40 to 50 stores or more .

@@the-nina-beans88 you'd be surprised at how often that happens. Most of the horse crazy kids I've known did that. Horses are just a phase for them. My parents never took my love for horses seriously, and figured I'd out grow it. I had to wait until my early 40s to get a horse. I've heard it said that if a person is still involved with horses 7 years after getting one as an adult, they're a real horse person. I need to get up and go take care of mine.

Because of the pandemic they had a small court house wedding and so the parent decided since the money wasn't spent on the wedding, he'd buy them a home instead. It was pretty clear from the beginning that she didn’t intent to pay rent. She actually expected OP to move out of HER own house.. that level of entitlement is just spectacular.. wow
