In this video, I answer the following statements:
“God is the basis of morality.”
“Morality could not arise naturally.”
“Without God, there is moral decline.”
TL;DR, the answer is no.

Well... They are the unhinged nutters, who clearly have some DEEP psychological issues going down. I gave up religion YEARS ago, age 12 / 13 (I'm 50 now!) and I haven't committed a serious act of evil since! Sure... I ain't perfect (who the heck is?) but I've never committed a serious crime, nor do I go around hurting people. Much rather waste my time reading books, learning about Science and supporting those people whom I love. And there are MILLIONS more out there, just like me, who can function quite well without religion!

A point I've seen and agree with: "If you need the threat of eternal suffering to be a good person, you are in fact not a good person."
@phi4721
@phi4721 4 ай бұрын
I disagree with this because it's a "religious" point. Objectively, what is "good" and "evil". If it's up to individuals, it's subjective. Since morality is subjective, religious people can be moral and non-religious can be moral as well. This point just feels the same as "you can't be moral if you're not religious" but in an opposite way- "if you're religious, you can't be moral." It's gatekeeping morality just like religion does.
@user-in9fb9jl8s
@user-in9fb9jl8s 4 ай бұрын
@@phi4721 no it isn't. There are religious people that are good people genuinely. Then there are those that say they're good just because they're christians. This point is calling out how the bad religious people act like you can only be good if you're one of them and believe you'll go to hell after death if you're bad. So the non-religious response is what I've quoted: "If you need the threat of eternal suffering to be a good person, you are in fact not a good person." Because, there are people who do good things out of the kindness of their heart, then there are people who do good things just to avoid punishment. For example, you have the ability to stop someone from drowning and you're the closest to them. You have the strength, stamina, and a bouy with you. The person who helps out of the kindness of their heart will help this person not drown to save their life. But the the other will only help this person so people don't give them mean looks and lectures for seeing someone who needed help, having the ability to help, and intentionally not helping. Doing it for good vs doing it to avoid punishment. Which do you think is a better person?

I was sent to a "boys home" as a plea bargain when I was 14. I until that point I thought I was a Christian. But this place was ran by violent, bigoted fundamentalist-separatist Christians. They told me that the church I went to, where my step-dad played guitar, was evil due to playing modern Christian rock. They also had a psychotic system of student leadership that promoted violence. For example: they would have you do an impossible amount of heavy exercise to the point of injury and force you to do more under the real and active threat of more beatings. One day I had to run laps for 10 hours and at the end when I couldn't, they drug me around the lap track in groups of 2 to 3 of the student leaders, leaving scars on my body for years. They also told me I wasn't saved. I went through a process of "getting saved" at one of their services (fire and brimstone style) and would then start to question if I did thinking I only felt guilty during the service and scared of going to hell, leading me to try and get saved again at other services. As this was happening I started to read the Bible HEAVILY and started finding severely opposed viewpoints. After I left I prayed for years to hear from God but never did, I couldn't believe that some random coincidence was God confirming my prayers like others and prayed for something I could actually believe. Never happened. That's how I became an atheist. So these people, in their psychotic beliefs and actions, pushed me into atheism. Why would God send me to this place for 18 months to be tortured (and as a student leader learn to be violent myself) just to never answer my prayers? I think some people WANT to believe fantastical things. They believe conspiracies that make little sense without accepting things without true evidence. And they pursue control over others. Were these people moral? I think the evidence is clear as day.

The issue at hand is sin and God’s nature of being just. Sin brings suffering (the pleasure is short term, and the suffering is long term-on earth and in hell forever). God brings Righteousness (may have short term suffering followed by long term pleasure- on earth and in Heaven). If you love yourself repent of your sins (lying, hatred, unforgiveness, sexual sins, taking the Lord’s Name in vain, stealing, dishonouring your parents etc) & believe in Jesus for forgiveness of sins. @@thereisnonegoodbutgodjohn363 I'll remember how great this god is when I read where he told his chosen people to murder innocent children and women in the Old Testament, telling them they can keep the little virgin children as sex slaves (Numbers 31); in addition to enslaving the people around them that weren't "chosen people." Thinking the god the Israelis made up is real any more than the other gods people made up is ridiculous. Saying that Jesus brought a new covenant, doesn't explain how slavery and child sex trafficking was okay with god, to say nothing of the genocide and the other terrible immoral things written by the ancient Israelites. It's a religion they invented to make themselves self important and to give them an excuse to steal land occupied by other people and to justify their murder.

This video is the best explanation of the origin of morality I have ever heard. Morality doesn't exist if it comes from a god. Morality comes from within ourselves and doesn't come from others, including a god. Divine command is not the source of morality because if we do or don't do something merely because someone says so, we are just a robot doing what they were programmed to do. I liken divine command to not running a stop sign only because the law commands it. There are times it is more wise to run a stop sign than not run it, for example to avoid an accident. The moral thing to do is avoid serious injury regardless of the divine command not to run stop signs. When we only refuse to stop at stop signs because of the "divine" command of government, we have surrendered our morality. If we don't run the stop signs because it is the right thing to do, we have retained our morality or lack thereof. The right of way is another analogy. Pedestrian have the right of way over vehicles to cross at cross-walks. If the pedestrian crosses because god commanded they have the right of way, it is a foolish thing for the pedestrian to take the right of way (divine permission) when it appears a vehicle is not going to wait for the pedestrian.

Most people have heard “Jesus/God loves you”. Does that mean they have a relationship with God and will go to heaven? Depends on the individual. A relationship is 2 sided, you receive love and you give love back. God showed His love by suffering, dying on the cross and rising from the dead for you, now you show Love back by repenting of your sins (lying, stealing, sexual sins, taking the Lord’s Name in vain etc) and believing in Jesus as your Lord and saviour so that Heaven is in your future not hell.

@johnsuarez1404 Thanks for the honest answer. Have you considered that those personal experiences probably reflected a deep desire for certain things to be real, and could be due to a form of suggestion? To add to the multitude of gods, people of different faiths will have personal experiences relating to their faiths. Even Christians will have slightly different experiences based on the kind of beliefs they espouse. Muslims might have visions of Muhammad. Hindus of Shiva or something like that. Indonesians get possessed... by spirits of animals. I was talking with a Chinese friend a couple of weeks ago, and she didn't think that demons were scary, but was pretty scared of ghosts, even tho she doesn't really believe in them. Whereas, as a Westerner, I think that demons would be way scarier. There are a bunch of differences based in culture and local beliefs, and people's personal experiences are, as far as I know, always based on the beliefs they already hold or the beliefs that are prevalent in their culture. You never see a "non believer" start believing in a religion they didn't grow up around because of a sudden spiritual experience. If someone has never heard of it, they'll never discover that it's true by revelation.

brothers, what have we done. look at us. look at what we've become. This isn't right. we're wasting time going on about girls and sus drawings that don't give a f*ck about us. What is the point of lust? Why do we do this? This doesn't fix our problems, doesn't make the stress and pain go away. repent to God, friends. We must stay focused, brothers, on what really matters. I'm only 17, but I'm telling you, in the words of johnny cash, "sooner or later God will cut you down." you will lose almost everything important to you. please, for your sakes, repent and turn to Jesus. He is, in the words of Skillet, "better than drugs." He is also better than lust. love > lust. You'll find out that this is true. love may hurt, and same for lust, but lust will keep you chained down, eventually killing you. Ayo I don’t mean to force anything on anyone, but we have various types of evidence for biblical events, if anyone is interested (read on) hell was never meant for us, my fellow youtube user. it was for the devil and his squad, and God gave us the Way out of there since we all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. God knew we were wack, but He decided He was still come down and help us, despite our unfaithfulness. most relationships (like friendships, romantic relationships) aren't like this. Very few, but not a whole lot. religion (Christianity) is just a relationship with God along with loving others (see james 1:27) also, we have various types of evidence that backs up tthe Bible. Here's one example: Scientists have discovered that the earth "skipped" a day. The Bible explains how that happened. In the book of Joshua, Joshua asked the sun to stop so he and the Israelites could defeat their enemies. Then in 2 Kings, King Hezekiah learned he was dying, and pleaded to God to not let him die. God sent a prophet to king hezekiah who said hezekiah would live. Hezekiah wanted a sign, and that would be for the sun to defy the law of inertia and go back 10 degrees. NASA confirmed it and did the math (look it up for more info). We also found Noah’s Ark hanging out in turkey, along with anchor stones marked with crosses signifying that it’s a revered place, along with altars and many other things. Look it up, it’s good stuff The Holy Spirit exists. I was a slave to s3xual sin for 7-ish d@mn years. Finally at 16, God freed me. Also, look up John Gabbana's (boonk gang) testimony. Dude did a lot of wacky stuff. He's changed now. also, the soul exists. someone i know (i won't say who- privacy reasons) saw their soul leaving their body. like pulling off a band-aid, except it doesn't hurt. I was suicidal for 9-ish months, but then I read John 3:16, and poof- the big sad went away in one night. There are also non-Christian sources who have confirmed the existence and divinity of Jesus, some of which were hostile towards Christianity, such as: Thallus (52 AD), who said Jesus lived, was crucified, and confirmed the darkness and earthquake that followed Christ’s crucifixion; Tacitus (56-120 AD), who called the followers of Christ Christians, confirmed that Jesus was crucified under Pontus Pilate’s command Talmud (400-700 AD), confirmed that the disciples were martyred for their faith, and confirmed Jesus was executed the day before the Passover, and said Jesus had “magical” powers Pliny the Younger (61-113 AD), who said that the Christians thought Jesus was/is God in the Flesh (God the Son) Phlegon (80-140 AD), who said Jesus had the ability to predict the future, and confirmed that Jesus was crucified during Caesar’s reign, confirmed Jesus rose from the dead, and confirmed He showed His wounds to confirm He was crucified. Celcus (175 AD), who said Jesus was born of a virgin, said His father is a carpenter, and confirmed Jesus had miraculous powers (See cold-case Christianity for more details) Here’s the physical evidence of Jesus and His Resurrection: 1) No persecution would have started if He hadn’t come back (the disciples thought Jesus would never resurrect) 2) The Roman soldiers would have paid with their lives if they failed at their jobs 3) there was a 2-4 ton rock that 11-12 guys would have to move (they didn’t have any help. Everyone said “crucify Him”) major L to those opposed to Jesus 4) there was a Roman seal which was a metal pin that sealed the tomb stone 5) Stealing the Jesus’s body isn’t something the disciples would do (besides Judas. Although he hung himself after feeling remorse for betraying Jesus). 6) the disciples wouldn’t die for what they knew would be a lie. (The lie being Jesus never made the ultimate comeback) faith, science, and reason, people hit me up to learn more about how science proves the Bible or just about God in general

The phrase often associated with machiavellianism, which is part of the dark triad (based on the Italian philosopher Niccolò Machiavelli), is "The end justifies the means." Some of the traits of Machiavellianism are manipulativeness, callousness, an indifference to morality, and a strategic focus on self interest. These traits are often alongside other personality traits such as narcissism and psychopathy. So, when you were talking about the suffering of many for the "redemption" of a few, this is what came to mind. All of the suffering of so many is justified as part of "God's plan". It's wild that that is even an argument...if that was the case, then does God condone slavery? The suffering of many for the comfort of a few? It doesn't matter what the end goal is, because it doesn't take away from the suffering endured by those living in those conditions. Making many suffer for the end goal of something wonderful *just creates pain and suffering*. If god is this almighty savior that can do whatever he wants, why not eliminate or at least decrease suffering, while still meeting his end goals? And another thing- we all know that people learn by the example set for them, more so than what they are told. So this "unconditional love" that god has for us, but still allowing bad things to happen and relentless suffering in many cases...and then, damning us to eternal suffering if we do not worship someone/something that has never proven themselves to us in a tangible way...if that's unconditional love, then I want no part in that! I remember vividly being about six years old and wrestling with these issues while dragging my feet on the way to my family's Greek Orthodox Church. Imagine ANY real world situation like that. Let's say you go to a friends house and hide in their attic. While they're going to sleep, you quietly tell them that you have a plan for them, all they have to do is trust you, believe in you, and do what you say. If they don't, then you will pour gasoline on them and light them on fire. *DOES THIS SOUND LIKE A STABLE, RATIONAL, TRUSTWORTHY OMNIPOTENT FORCE THAT YOU'D PUT YOUR FULL TRUST INTO?!* Sorry, that's a big NOPE for me.

@@m.g.6394 okay...interesting! Now, assuming that "God" is still around and watching, seeing the suffering, why doesn't he change it? And some things God created end up causing suffering directly (as opposed to creating something that causes harm that is out of "His control", like someone becoming a murderer, for example), like natural disasters, hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, etc. These seem like things that could have just not existed, but they do, and they cause displacement and stress and sometimes injury and death...why would he create those circumstances? What about vicious, disfiguring animal attacks? Why create animals that destroy each other, if you have the power to create a more harmonious world? Why introduce pathogens, and disease? I understand that in order for new things to grow and develop, there has to be a cycle that involves death, which is a natural part of the cycle, and we generally view it as sad and painful. I'm not talking about that, but the suffering before it, the drawn out pain before the inevitable. I know you said you're not religious, and I don't expect a full on debate or anything, I am simply asking whoever feels like they have the answer to that, to explain it to me so it makes sense. In other words, death must exist But God could make death painless instead of allowing horrifying diseases to exist Or he could create a planet that grows in size as more people occupy it, if God is all powerful and all knowing and all merciful, he could easily create a far better reality. I just found your channel and I have already watched well over a dozen of your vids. I gotta say, I totally agree with you on the vast majority of your videos. Thank you for your well thought out critiques and philosophic rants. Just want to point out though, that religion is most not necessary for tyrants to fool people into tribal nightmares. In the recent pandemic era we saw, and still see many, so-called progressive (often atheist) folks marching tribally en mass, driven by top down fear mongering to help increasingly authoritarian Western governments push tyranical "health" measures on the populace. Many of the "my body, my choice" lefties dropped that mantra in a heartbeat when instilled with enough fear. They became pawns of the greedy, corrupt big pharma controlled governments to help push inadequately tested new medical technologies on people that rightfully do not have faith in those corporations and captured regulatory institutions. My point is, it doesnt take religion, or even simple belief in a higher power, to steer the masses, via induced fear, into becoming tools and agents of tyranny. If you think simply enlightening people away from the shackles of religion will stop the tyranny, you are mistaken. The powers that be know they can still use fear as a tool to make people perform atrocious acts, regardless of their belif system. The past few years have proven that beyond any doubt. And dont pass me off as some anti-vaxer conspiracist, I am most certainly not. I hold four science degrees and I speak based on the empirical evidence I have gathered through a lifetime of learning. I was arguing against the widespread use of mRNA and DNA medical treatments as far back as 2016 in a graduate level ethics course for microbiology PhD students. The safety data was not adequate then and it still isn't now. Actually the safety evidence agaisnt their use has grown significantly due to the unethical roleout of that technology on such a large population. That does not mean I am anti-vax or any other fear-driven pejorative. I am simply logically skeptical of the highly corrupt and conflict of interest riddled regulatory and academic institutions and the well-documented criminal and unscrupulous pharma and health care industries. I don't mean any disrespect here, it just comes across in this video, and you may not have meant it this way, that belief in god is the only tool tyrants have at their disposal to drive fear into the hearts of people and the twist them to commit atrocities against human kind. Forming fear driven tribes does not require such blind faith in a god. It can stem from blind faith in any institution, such as the who, cdc, fda, wef, imf, etc. etc.

After playing over 20 years of trading card games, competitive sports and struggling with relationships like many I find myself learning that we are in a world where survival is the default mode in the main campaign. Yet the save file being played has provided us many features to do the required quests with less difficulty. The characters are living in a world where the resources need to be administered and the numbers will increase or decrease when there are natural phenomenon that alter the ecosystem. We do have agency, we can teach others what we've learned and we can share the truly important things, like being responsible for your family and loved ones, learning to take accountability and let go of the hate and what has happened in the past to be able to move forward. It's not easy, but that's better than playing the villain or try to be the hero

@@friendsandfamily100 I’m sooo tired of people claiming that the nazi’s were an “atheist” regime. Hitler was a Christian, most people in Germany were Christian, nazi or otherwise, the soldiers literally had “God is with us” printed (in German of course) on the inside of their uniforms (specifically it was on their belts if I remember correctly). By no means were they an atheist; regime, nation, group, leadership, majority or anything of the sort. This is more brain dead than claiming that communists were an atheist regime, despite them being supported by the Russian orthodoxy, since at the very least the U.S government made a lot of propaganda falsely claiming as such. Edit: typo, used a comma instead of a semicolon once

There's also the problem with the argument God's nature is good because he created darkness and calamity. Knowing it would harm us and doesn't care. @@kellywalker1664 So did narcissists exploit this dysfunction under everyone's nose? Like if I make a character in a cartoon and people see the character behaves like he's autistic and I actually am autistic so it would be an astute observation. The character behaves this way because I can't see the world like a normal person because I don't view the world with normal eyes.

12:00 Actually I don't believe an omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent being would be capable of morality, whether good or bad. Anything it would do would have to be amoral by default, like gamma ray bursting from a star. There is no good or evil intent - it's just a force of nature doing what it does. I like to pose this question: how is omnipotence different from the lack of ability to do anything? If you can do anything, you have already done everything, and there is nothing left to do. How is omniscience different from complete lack of sentience? If one knows everything, then existence is pointless - there is nothing to observe, nothing to try. Something that doesn't even know anything exists, like a rock, then has the exact same practicality as something that knows everything. If an omnipotent god exists, everything that it would ever do has already happened, and nothing was ever a mistake. That god would also probably cause itself to stop existing, as such power would likely cause a mind to shatter. When we think of omnipotence we often think about childish things, having all the money we want, having the exact body we want, influencing everything to go as we want - we envision it as a genie granting wishes, but true omnipotence would go so, so far beyond that. This is why Christians pray to God despite believing it to be an omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent being - God already knows what you want, and supposedly God has a plan. So why are you saying words at a window? It's because our minds can't comprehend anything beyond a genie. If an omniscient god exists, it probably understands human thoughts - but it's unable to act by virtue of knowing all outcomes. Say you knew absolutely everything that ever happened and absolutely everything that will ever happen, including every "what if" scenario. What point would there be to doing anything? We often do things to experience an outcome - learn about something, or have meaningful interactions with people. If however we know literally everything anyone would respond to anything we say or do, what point is there to doing it? If you already have the knowledge of how your life will go, exactly as it will go, with no surprises, is it worth living? How about if you already have the knowledge of how your life and everyone else's life will go? You can't even create new scenarios by abusing the knowledge, because you already know the outcome of everything that you might say or do will be. For maybe a year at most - you might try. Get rich quickly, eat all the best food, drive the best cars, live life to the fullest - but you already knew what it would feel like, exactly as it would feel. It's worse than even reading a book, as you might experience different emotions on a second reading - but as an omniscient being, there is nothing "different" to feel. You've already felt it all, and are now the equivalent of a rock being carried by water, without anything more to feel. And a rock can't make moral or immoral decisions.
