Blayne. Thanks for the review. I love darkthrone and I know you do too. Honesty I guess is the best policy. It authenticates the analysis here. For me I think it’s a great album. Give it a few more listens. You never know it might grow. Horns ablaze. 🤘🏻

Funny how you agree with a lot of the analysis and come to a very different conclusion. To me this is their best in years. The singles were awesome, the closer is great and there are cool riffs on a few other songs too. The production is perfect for the style of music. Still, I wish they would put in more effort, be more creative and daring. Finally, some more quality control would be nice, as a few songs are just meh... A 7/10 in my Darkthrone loving book

Is the expectation for Darkthrone to make a really good album to high of a standard at this point in there career they are gonna do what they want there best is in the past we need to expect that and not complain about it just enjoy what you like and let them do what they will.

I've been listening to this record throughout the past week, and I'm pretty much in the exact same position as Blayne here. I also enjoyed their last two records immensely and also got super hyped by Black Dawn Affiliation. And, you guessed it, I also felt underwhelmed by this one. The opening track is indeed a very weak song, and the rest of the record just fails to build momentum and live up to the hype. Weirdly, I actually can see how some people are way into this record, as it is a very stripped down and, at the same time, very weird and non-compromising record, which is what Darkthrone has always stood for, musically. But I didn't feel it at all.

It's the first album where they collaborated on all songs & thus the publishing goes to Darkthrone. I love this album! Blayne is in the minority with his opinion. All respect to him as a fellow Canadian & metalhead, but I dislike all of his alternate picks for years going by when he doesn't like an album more popular. It seems like a shtick with him. Goes with the job, I suppose. Still, I liked that Banger did a review at all. That being said, you guys (Sam!) should really get some people from outside Toronto, & from the rest of Canada, to work on your show.

I feel like I'm enjoying it more with each spin. Agreed, the first track is a tough listen which puts them in a hole to dig out of. However, The Heavy Hand could be one of my favorite songs they've ever done. So, theres that. Fenriz entering his King Diamond era was an unexpected turn, though. In the end I'll find enough on here to enjoy. 6.5/10

100% agree with you dude. Every track has something I like, but basically every track has more stuff that's boring. Also the vocals are so low effort and they're mixed terribly. And I know lyrics don't really matter, but my GOD, just go back to singing in Norwegian guys. This is pure word salad nonsense.... sometimes the songs seem like riff salad, which makes some of these songs feel empty and pointless. It's weird.

Thinking any modern Darkthrone album is boring is actually almost always 100% understandable. So this is no exception. Doesn't mean that I'm not going to dig what they do on it personally. Especially since I just don't think this one is all that much different from the previous 2 albums; and I liked those. I can see the premise of this one not doing enough to differentiate itself though.
