Hoss Tools sent me an a drip irrigation kit and the drip tape layer to go onto my Hoss wheel hoe. The drip tape layer allows you to bury your drip tape.

I really like the Hoss tools makes everything look easy. I think the buried tape will work nice since it puts the water at the roots and shouldn't have as much evaporation.

Yes it is a great way to save water and still be able to water on days when you can't be in the garden. Yes I am a State Trooper here in Oklahoma.

Yeah, you need the water at the roots. Not evaporating off the topsoil and causing fungal problems.

I purchased a Double Wheel Hoe from Hoss Tools and many attachments such as the Drip Tape Installer which I am about to use in a day or so. So here I am checking out videos. I am very happy with the quality of Hoss Tools and after finding out they were just a 2 hour drive from me I paid them a visit to get my drip tape irrigation system. Greg Key was there and showed me his garden and answered questions on using my new tools. Greg would make a great neighbor. With the right tools and online videos we should all have a more successful garden. My garden is coming together after using my Cub Cadet Vertical Tine Tiller then the plow attachment on the double wheel hoe easily made the furrows for my drip tape to fall into. I also ordered a liquid fertilizing system that will be distributed by the drip tape.

it looks like you have planting furrows on either side of the drip tape after installation, alternate seed from side to side. I have a hoss wheelhoe but never used the drip tape, but I LOVE the wheelhoe!

That is exactly how it comes out after the tape is laid and I planted some purple hull peas in a couple of the rows just as you said. The Hoss wheel hoe is an amazing time saver in the garden for sure.

We use soaker hoses from Harbor Freight. Our rows are 50' long, we leave it on top of the ground and peg it in place w/ bent wires. We can get several years out of them.

Our problem with the soaker hoses... especially from HF is that we don't know what they're made from. Especially if they're from China.

I've never used drip tape before, just wondering if you run your whole garden on one timmer or some how on different zones? I know you hear often but thanks for all you do, on the "homestead" and on the street. stay safe out there brother

In the past I have done the whole garden under one timer. This year I will have two set up. One to control the garden and one for the high tunnel since they will have different water needs. Thanks for the kind words! I do appreciate the support.

The Hoss system is not for me. I enjoyed watering the garden, going along and tending to the plants in each row, noting the gains, pulling the weeds and watching my vegetables grow so much faster than yours are going to using this system. Archie Morse, born in 1896 showed me how to water. He had a nice galvanized watering can, it held about 2 gallons. We had what he called the "poop Juice barrel" right at the corner of the barn and another one down at the other end of the garden fed by the gutter from the shed. Both the barrels were fed from the roofs. We could supplement them with a garden hose, adding fresh water if needed. The real secret to the poop juice barrels was the poop. Archie was big on compost. He liked to compost all his manure and barn cleanings. We had several compost piles working around the farm, one near the pig's winter quarters, one just outside the clean out window for the milking barn and another down at the far end of the pasture that had mostly spent hay and pigeon manure composting. I would water with poop juice in the morning. My carrots..... well I have never seen carrots like that anywhere else. They reached from the tips of my finger to my elbow. I grew a row of cabbages that were the size of basketballs. My sweet corn was well up over my head. My garden there was about twice as big as the one you were installing the fresh water drip tape in. Come harvest time I had pickup truck loads of peppers, squash, potatoes corn, you name is I grew it. We had a horseradish bed that had been going since the 1920's. We pickled horseradish and cabbage by the barrel. Back in those days, we could get barrels. I don't know where you would get them now. They were oak and held I think about 75 gallons if filled right to the top band. Each poop juice barrel had a few fork fulls of nice rich compost in it. when you filled the watering can there was a potato fork by the barrel, you churned up the goodness before you filled the watering can. I had that garden from 1976 until 1981. Twice my cabbage won at the county fair. I took a squash - pumpkin cross to the fair confident that I would win the blue. That squumkin was too big to fit between the weel wells on the pickup. It took six guys to lift it. I got a pink ribbon. I think it was sixth place, almost 300 pounds and I got a pink ribbon!

Wonder if you can install the drip tape and plant seeds at the same time. I would be afraid that once I have put my seed to the soil and then go back and bury the drip tape I would mess up the seedlings that started to root or am I missing something?
@ArmsFamilyHomestead
@ArmsFamilyHomestead 7 жыл бұрын
I don't think you could do both at the same time. You would definitely need to install the drip tape first.

It worked very well during the growing season. The only downside I found was that I had some rows get lots of weeds in them and that made it pretty difficult to pull up the drip tape at the end of the summer.

@ArmsFamilyHomestead
@ArmsFamilyHomestead 6 жыл бұрын
I don't recall exactly what size they sent me last year, but from looking at their website right now they offer a 8 mil and a 15 mil tape. The 8 mil will work just fine for most all of your garden crops. I've never used a 15 mil tape, but I'm thinking it would be for more permanent types of crops.

Drip tape? Cheap an easier way is PVC pipe and pop in misting caps every so often and leave it . Don't have to bury it or move it last for years... Oh and I would use that wheel as a seeder I bet they got something for that . I have seen similar with stick tape for the seeds that role out.

You could look it up elsewhere once you had the thought, if you really wanted, instead of screaming at someone who provides a ton of free content and condensed experience. How do justify being so ugly to another human/who is already giving you something? He doesn't even work for you.. even that dynamic wouldn't justify your demanding tone. Got any new years resolutions?
