Gotta love Darnell, true tough as nails,hard working American. He didn’t take shit from anyone. He was tough on Arnie at first because he saw him as another snot nosed kid. But he realized that he wasn’t and saw the good in him (at the time) and offered him a job and he’s the kind of person that doesn’t do that for just anyone. He stuck up for Arnie when he thought Christine had been stolen and it ended up costing him his life. One of the best characters in the movie.

Yes .Im glad they left out most of the Book depictions of characters and tone to be frank. I just see Christine as not alive so much as just a object that just has a history of weird bad things happenening around it. Like just has a aura about it. The people who brought this cloud of bad luck and negative energy, right off the Assembley line. Its obviously alive,but if you strip it away as Carpenter does to its simple essential elements. Its just the one thing this kid has that is possitive in his life in the end. Darnell was the only human who saw Arnie as a man and returned respect to him that Arnie earned. Even Dennis takes a damn screw driver to His car to give him a message. Everyone wants Arnie to be the loser he is to their own ends. His parents, Buddy and his goons, Leigh and even his own best friend see him getting confidence in himself and is already smarter than all of em. They cannot stand it. So they fuck with a hard working mans car, over and over. What did they expect his chip on the shoulder to come across when he doesnt need anybody to take care of him?..Arnie doesnt know anything anymore..Just the worst thing to say about the son that she brought up in such a way. Responsible for his social issues.. They all were shitters and Darnell saw the car drive back in..As you point out if only he didnt witness this event. I believe Arnie wouldve been Alive as well, driving his cherry out of that shithole away from all of those shitters .He would have been a successfull man with the open road of his life ahead of him. That is this movie s simple brilliance. Because it can just be about a kid learning to be a man and the tradgedy that his life was..These people just hated this kid and his car so much , because he was better than them and they knew it.If that position changed , he would have seen all their insecurities hinging on him being a loser and we have to take care of him. Sorry i just really hated how they mistook this dude getting to be a normal confident personbecause of that stupid car.They were the villians to me.

I was always impressed how Christine actually had Arnie earn her through hard work. Clearly she could have repaired herself anytime.. as she did more than once later on but al this point, she really wants to see how much Arnie cares. And he does. In the book it's even better displayed: because there are some parte that Arnie repairs and some other parts that repaired themselves.. Christine sort of rewards him a little. That was nice

@@CycolacFan I agree with Christine running on obsessive love and devotion but.... I disagree that she went downhill "quickly" after Lebay died. I don't think "downhill" is the right word. Another deleted scene in this, when Arnie returns to the workshop with the hubcap. Darnell throws insults at Arnie, also mentioning he is not longer wearing glasses, while the perfectly OK Pepper asks Arnie while he's in the yard to look for a grille for a 1930s car he's restoring (make unsure about), leaving the scene soon after leaving Arnie & Darnell alone, which goes to the scene shown. Would have made sense if that was left in the final cut, like all the other deleted scenes.
@retrocat14 жыл бұрын
The end of this scene perfectly captures one man's inexplicable, yet intensely real, love affair with his car. When I was a kid, I knew I would be like Arnie's character, in this scene, hopelessly enamored with a car that was made before I was, in my case a 1959 Chevrolet Impala. It's all I ever wanted when I was a kid. Do cars have souls? To some of us they do.

Arnie did most of the restoration by driving Christine around the junkyard, and utilized her backwards running odometer to rejuvenate her. Notice that in this video, Arnie isn't wearing his glasses. Christine's odometer has rejuvenated his eyes, so that he doesn't need them anymore. The starboard side of the grille has been replaced, but not the port side. The port headlights have been replaced, and he's put on new windshield wipers. The windshield still has the spiderweb crack in the starboard side.

I'm fond of mate's chairs because of their distinctive guitar shaped seats, and when I was growing up, there were two periods when Pizza Hut had them in their old restaurants. Mate's chairs are nautical because they originated in ship mess halls for the ship mate's to sit in. The captain sat in the arm chair that was the captain's chair.

0:37-0:41 My Reaction when I see a 59 Impala and a Green Car, cause Green cars look like that someone just peed into a bucket of white paint and decided to paint the car that color. 2:51 Arnie:(Opens The Door) Christine:That's right Arnie, Come to Mama💗. 2:58 Arnie:(Turns on her Radio) Christine:(Founds at least one song that fits well with Making Love)

"Well, don't think about it too long or I'll throw you out on your f--kin' ass!". The way Darnell softens the tiniest bit as he makes his offer to Arnie, only to flip right back to perfect hostility after Arnie drops the ball... it will never not be funny. Robert Prosky was brilliant.

My dad bought a an old Xtype Jag for spares or repairs some months ago, sadly it was a knon runner and it had to be scrapped. I tell you something though the moment i sore that car i fell in love with it. Previous owners never looked after it which was one of the reasons it had to be scrapped. We were going to fix her up and get her back on the road, it did look pretty scrappy but to me it was luxurious scrap. It broke my heart when we had to get it scrapped. BUT im pleased to say we bought another, she's a good runner aswell silver in great condition. She will be treated like royalty.

Can't believe he was only in his 50s here. Prosky looked older. Robert Prosky (1930 - 2008)
