Sammy needs to understand that a cricket match is not like a movie where everything is scripted, its a game of glorious uncertainty. Who would have expected Markram bowling throughout the entire power play in a knock out game against the West indies, with the likes of Rabada, Jansen, Nortje, Shamsy, and Maharaj in the team. Sammy was constantly talking about specific roles for players, this method of coaching will fail against good teams. We need versatility and adaptability instead of having set roles. Example Chase batting at #4 came out to face the second ball in the second over, at that stage he is basically opening the batting, should we send him home to cut his lawn after the openers fail, because it's not his role to open the batting, or should we back him to be versatile and adapt to the situation of the game?
@wagzack16 күн бұрын
Based on Sammy precondition mindset, I think he missed a lot of tricks, #1 After looking at the success of Alzari joseph, why wasn't Shamar Joseph considered due to the fact that they have similar skill set. #2 Hetmyer and Hope was on the bench looking at Charles struggle on slow turning pitches, #3 Shepherd was rushed into the game against England after returning from home for the birth of his Child, while McCoy, and Shamar Joseph were fit and ready to go. #4 It seems as tho Hetmyer only role was to replace Rutherford if he was injured, because we saw Mayers came in as a replacement for King and went straight into the final 11.#5 Sammy was so set on role play, instead of selecting his BESTsix batsmen in a particular condition , then figure out in what order they bat, example because Charles role is an opening batsman he was selected over Hetmyer in Guyana, even tho Hetmyer skill set and knowledge of the conditions will make him a better choice on slow turning pitches.

He said at the end of the day it's just a game. That said it all. No one with this view should be the captain of a West Indies team. To the captain it is just a game but for the better teams it is war. The objective is simple, they have to win.

Sammy selected the wrong team for the Game in Guyana, Charles should not play ahead of Hope or Hetmyer in Guyana. Charles is the type of batsman who likes to hit through the line of the ball, you cannot hit through the line when the pitches are slow and turning, you need proper batsmanship.

What are you talking about Charles did not play in the game that matters. Say it how it is he brought in three players who did worse than Charles so what you talking about. These players flop they are the ones that make the team not going to the semifinals. So why you blaming Charles. Why not blame Hope Mayers and McCoy. Charles did not play in that game. Mayers innings was slower than any one of Charles innings. 57 dot balls that’s like ten overs so where Charles comes in. I find you been bias. Hope made a duck why you not speaking about that.

Scapegoating is a defense mechanism. If you want to fire Sammy okay, but why do not want to fire the selection panel for selecting players who cannot play at the highest level? What were the contributions made by the captain and vice-captain? What about contributions of star players like Pooran and Russel? (In my opinion these guys are not stars). They have demonstrated time and time that they do not have what it takes to move West Indies forward. Russel ran himself out rather than staying at the creese and batting. Pooran was out for zero. It shows that these guys do not understand the technical aspects of the game. South Africa gave them a lesson in Antigua, I hope they learn something from it.

Sammy and his script that he refused to change despite all evidence that it DIDN'T work. looking for a like for like reincarnation of the champion 2012 and 2016 teams. Pooran clearly does not have the temperament of samuels, and additional pressure was put on him by the failures of johnson charles

@@islandhoppingsportsCA1 made no sense to me, and as i said, Sammy was following the 2012 and 2016 script, which was adopted from Trinidad's red force success in India. And he seemed unable to see the limitations of that philosophy and tweak it. Firstly TT and the WI had consistent run getters in Gayle and Simmons. This side didn't have that. charles absorbed deliveries and/or didn't score runs and King was injured unfortunately just when he started to look very much in form. When you lose two early wickets, you need a dude to come in and calm nerves in addition to keeping the scoreboard ticking. pooran, as good as he is is not that sort of player. Hope inexplicably only played two games despite being the top run getter in the cpl. Hop was the only dude who could play a Samuels'-type role

I am trying to figure out why Johnson Charles is considered a failure. He played in 6 games and scored 140 runs, the second highest after Pooran. What about the captain and vice-captain? What were their contributions to the West Indies team? It is suspect that Sammy and Charles (both St. Lucians) are being targeted and abused by West Indian fans. As a West Indian, I will always support the West Indies team. However, would I bet on the West Indies team to win the world cup? Absolutely not. The many fans and pundits in the Caribbean who cannot see that West Indies cricket is below par is out of touch with really. The reality is, West Indies does not have what it takes to win a major competition any time soon.

WI has to pay attention to the development of all aspects of the game including the captaincy. They have to develop rubrics to test the knowledge of the captain. The captain must be able to read the conditions of the pitch and apply his bowling resources effectively. That lesson was given to WI in Antigua by South African.
@MrChetahКүн бұрын
Rovman took the time to point out that it was "just a game". This shows a lack of understanding of the meaning of cricket to the West Indies. He should be relieved immediately of the captaincy of the WI t20 team. He does not share the same values as the cricketing community of the Caribbean and diaspora.

Would you blame the Sammy for WI not being able to hold their own against minions as Uganda and PNG? I think you are on to something here. The West Indies is way behind even the newcomers in development of players for cricket at the highest level. If you are playing cricket and you are struggling with batting, fielding and bowling, you cannot win, as simple as that.
