The 2024 Jamaican and US Olympic trials took center stage this weekend, to some of the most out of pocket sprint results we've seen in years. The last time Jamaica had a random sprinter crawl out of the woodwork what we saw this weekend... It resulted in Usain Bolt.
00:00 Intro
00:20 Kishane Thompson revives Jamaican sprinting
02:26 Grant Holloway 12.86
03:37 Valarie Allman is a superhero
04:42 2/3 Jamaican Woman are BACK
05:44 Gabby Thomas 21.81
06:31 Noah Lyles barely wins with a 19.53...
07:50 Sydney Mclaughlin-Levrone 400mh World Record
09:13 Masai Russel 12.25s
10:17 U.S distance is STRONG
11:02 Whacky international business

Gotta give a massive shout out to Joseph Brown in the USA mens discus. Throws 42 meters his first throw, on his, Last attempt goes 65.79, after competing 11 times this year, for his first olympic team. The best part is that HE WAS WEARING A "WHOS THAT THROWER SHIRT" WITH HIMSELF ON THE BACK. Also more in the throws, the entire USA mens hammer finalist either SB'd or PB'd and it was absolutely electric. Kara winger comes in second for the potential to make her 5th olympic team. Every single race on the last day of the USA trials was a meet record.

Not only is the M100m in Paris now on point with the reincarnation of Asafa Powell (with mental fortitude), but the M4x1 with Ackeem, Oblique, Bryan Levell & Kishane now looks interesting as well! Would love to see Val Allman next yr pick up the Hammer again (same with Maggie Ewen) & double up as we need more Field Eventers who have the ability to start doubling! S/O US W1500m Final where Top 8 all ran sub 4m inc sub 3.56 for the Top 3; and Bryce Hoppel's impressive 1.42.77 800m PB/MR - Wanyonyi vs Arop vs Sedjati vs Hoppel looks like a great matcup! A record 8 Women have already run sub 12.4s in the 100mH this yr, could very well see a crazy 10 -15 in total do it this yr! JuVaughn Harrison is incredibly lucky that only Shelby McEwen of the 3 men who finished ahead of him in the US HJ Final has the 2.33m Olympic Standard!

Great video, i just love how track has exploded in the last few days. But i think fans shouldnt get too excited yet, its one thing to perform at trials and another to do it on the biggest stage under the most intense pressure. We have seen Omanyala run quite a few 9.7s also but we aint paying too much attention because he hasnt done it yet when it matters most. Kishane looks great and i hope they dont put too much pressure on him as its his first olympics, Oblique is the bigger threat imo as he's had the experience, form, mental fortitude and definitely wants to change those 4th places to podium places. I dont think Shericka is in top form yet but she didnt have to be to make the Jamaican team, what should be scary is her peaking in Paris, i fear for the Americans peaking too early due to the level of competition they face locally besides the generation talents of Lyles,Sydney, Rai and Sha'Carri who have proven themselves on the biggest stage. The only thing stopping Mr Holloway from being an all time great even though he is in my eyes is that olympic gold. He's had an all conquering year but i remember last olympic trials he ran his pb (12.81) and didnt win gold in Tokyo. Now his arch nemesis Mr Broadbell is fit, i hope he holds his form and nerves because Mr Crittenden was eating up on him in that finals. The women's 110hurdles looks scary and dare i say we might see a new WR but my money's still on the JCQ, Amusan, Danielle camp. They have the experience and also know how to peak for these major championships. Thanks for covering those chinese kids, will check them out, seems unbelievable two kids will lead one of the most populous nations in the world in the sprints. Its a great time to be a track and field fan though.

The two chinese have been running fast all season, they also got a 400m runner around quincy age who was half a second behind... before wilson dropped 44.5 hahah. Kishane may be the first man since the GOAT era to break into 9.6s. Hear me out... Similar form to Asafa when running at top speed. Not identical, but similar. Same coach and alla that. Asafa is known to have the 'perfect form'. Kishane's start is still shaky for me. Not clean; room for improvement. He shut it down in the last 10-20m and still ran a 9.77. Bolt's third 100m ever he ran 9.76. Quite a different creature to Thompson. Thompson has been around as a 20 something for a while now. He could already go sub 9.7 if he gets +2 wind..heck it couldve been 9.6x just in this race if he had +2. but Bryan Levell is the one to watch. H'es the closest to 'coming out of the woodwork'. classic jamaican results- when they actually try, they smash it. Watch for Levell to run 9.90 in Paris and 19.7 ish in the 200. no mention of the very odd Shericka Jackson 200. Very strange for someone who has run 21.41 and 21.45.

Why does the timer for Kishane say 9.73?
@AthleticsEditz
@AthleticsEditz 2 күн бұрын
The in-stadium timer is often not fully correct and the time is often adjusted to what the official time is. If you watch Usain Bolt's 19.19, you'd see that the in-stadium clock originally said '19.20' but then changed to '19.19'. In Jamaica it appears to be a bit more off (9.73 -> 9.77) but that's why. I wish they could get the in-stadium clocks to always be 100% correct because then everyone knows instantly whether it's a world record, etc. (e.g. Sydney McLaughlin's 50.67 in-stadium time from yesterday was changed to 50.65 officially, but it might've been changed to 50.69 - missing the world record).
