This was a local street market my family and I had dinner at recently in Patong in Phuket Thailand. The market is open every day from 12pm till 8pm and its Google Maps coordinates are: goo.gl/maps/FgzaAfSYahb2R82U6
The market is about 500m north of Patong Beach, on Kalim Beach, and the Thai food there is delicious! At this market you can find loads of Thai street food, authentic Thai cuisine, halal food and lots of seafood. There are dining areas behind many of the street food stands where you can sit and eat overlooking the ocean. It’s a great place to take in a sunset and it's a lot of fun dining Thai-style with the locals. It’s a great night out in a quieter part of Patong and everyone is very friendly. We’ve been there a number of times over the last 6 or so years and all the food we have ever eaten at that market has been delicious!

There are loads of Thai food markets & night markets like this one all over Thailand. At the Thai food markets you'll find so much Thai cuisine and street food on offer & the food here is cheap, usually cheaper than eating at Thai restaurants, and it is so tasty! Thai food has been heavily influenced by Chinese food so you will find lots of familiar flavours. And in case you’re worried, eating Thai street food is safe. It’s what the locals eat and it is cooked fresh and sold quickly. I’ve been eating it nearly daily since 2012 in Thailand and my friends who have been to visit and tour Thailand have all eaten it, and none of us have had any problems. You’ll find street food on many street corners in Thailand, be it in Patong, Phuket, Bangkok, Pattaya or Krabi and at all of the markets. Thai street food is some of the best Thai food you’ll find in Thailand!

Hi Darren, my husband and I have visited Thailand 4 times already and coming for a 5th time next month for 25 days. We want to thank you for your videos because even though we were open to try almost all kinds of Thai delicacies but we learned a lot more from watching your and your family's eats. So we will be a lot more conscious when we go to a night market in Phuket and will be able to say "We know this from Darren's videos, let's eat this!" :) One question though, we love Tub Tim Krob (water chestnut dessert) in Thai restaurants in Dubai but we have never found them in Phuket, any idea where we can find it? In our previous stays in Phuket, whenever we asked about it, we had people stare blank at us. Any help on our quest would be appreciated :)

Thank you. Sorry, I don't know where you'd find tub tim krob in Phuket, but I'd try the markets. When speaking Thai if you don't say things with the perfect tone (there are 5 tones in Thai) people will have no idea what you are saying and you'll get blank looks every time. I'd recommend showing them the written word in Thai, then they'll understand. It is: ทับทิมกรอบ I hope that helps.

That was great - this is also a surfing beach when the waves are cranking (daylight hours, of course). And further down the road - Surin Beach is amazing for waves if you're a surfer or bodyboarder. Just FYI. lol. Smart lady to give you the freebie pancake! I never told you, but I think Phuket has some of the best grilled chicken I've had. The sweet ones are amazing. Oh, and I'm not sure how you did it, but you managed to avoid getting even 1 ladyboy on the video! Quite a feat! Cheers man...

A grilling🔥 paradise mate!! The mackaral? looks better than what they sell in a can over here. It us usually 'bitter' in tomato sauce. Somehow i get the thought it is much different grilled?? I like the idea of the "hot pot" seafood, veg. broth !! Always get hungry seeing the chicken grilling. Last night a local place served "Jerk-Chicken" whole chicken cut up $6. My mom would taste something right away* that looked interesting, if good,? She would buy a quantity. After noticing the nice lady was sold out of the dessert item towards the end. The "potstickers"?? the green things there with the dried garlic, and sauce, anything with garlic/seafood good to check out. Glad to see hear the wife back ontop healthwise, and Ananda eating hearty! Wow! Pleasant mini vacation for me, frigid here Sun. - Tue. 11-15°F at night, definitely a challenge. Thankyou very much friends 😌👍🤗🤗

Thanks Ross. Yes, all of Thailand in general is a grilling paradise, food tastes so good when it's cooked over charcoal! $6 for a whole chicken sounds pretty good! And yes, dried garlic and sauce is a great combo with seafood. It's 2 or 3 weeks till the peak of our winter season here ... the forecast is for minimums of around 24°C (75°F) for most nights this week. Bring on summer I say! ;) Stay warm Amigo!

Darren - this might be a weird request but I would love you to make a video to find bathrooms around Phuket area. We always wonder how easily accessible they are.

I can't say we've ever had a problem finding a bathroom in Phuket - every restaurant, bar, market and gas station have one somewhere. If you can't see it just ask the staff.

Thanks. There was talk of a street food ban a few years ago, and vendors were moved from a few areas in Bangkok, but there is still street food readily available everywhere and the plans for a ban appear to have put on hold 👍👍

Hi Darren. Love the channel and love the family. I hope I am not over stepping my bounds here however I MUST get a job teaching English in Thailand. I live in China now and Thailand is just so superior. Can you offer any advice? Also, what is the job market looking like for older teachers? I will be in Krabi for New Year's Eve. I can't wait to move there

Thanks Bill. My advice: When I moved here, I went door knocking on schools' doors with my CV in hand and I found a job at the second school I went to. In my opinion that's the best way to find a teaching job in Thailand. The school year here ends late February so schools will be starting to look for next years teachers about now. I know some older people who have found teaching jobs in Thailand, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Darren how u doing bro? Whats the best way to travel arround phuket? Especially when you like to eat streetfood or sightseeing? How do u move arround there? By car, bus, tuktuk, scooter?

Hi Gin, All is well, thanks, I hope all is well with you too. We drive our car when we are there. I'd recommend renting a car. Sadly lots of people die on scooters in Phuket.

2:58 sausages :-p but its surprising for many people that these sausages are made from 100% halal meat that is chicken or beef or fish or seafood. This is Kalim bay. Pork is non existent here.This is one of my favorite spot for halal food hunting in phuket. This is also one of the most favorite spot for phuket locals and specially phuket muslims. Usually they come here on weekends with their families and friends. These are all muslim vendors and 100% authentic thai food is sold here in halal version :-) the good thing about this market is that nobody is selling pork or non halal food here. So technically its a halal food heaven for muslims visitors from all over the world. The food is so cheap and the price to quality ratio is quite good. Although they can not sell you the highest quality at this price but still they are doing a superb job. If somebody is looking for a higher quality halal thai food in phuket then there are still hundreds of locations selling all kind of halal thai and western cuisine in or around phuket. Thanks for sharing this experience. You are always coming up with great and most informative content. You are real a gem of youtube community. Hope to see your channel with millions of subscribers.
