it Took me awhile to do this and after taking everyone's complaints on music to dialogue ratio into account. If there is any issue had with this video let me know and I will try to resolve them!

@@colinmoore7460 It's also kind of the extent of what she does. This is the closest she ever gets to killing anyone. Anytime there is violence she hides behind other people or her own walls. I don't know if we read the same novels, but Rosemyne is a politician and while she doesn't hold back in that regard she also never goes after someone else's life or orders anyone else to do so even accidentally.

But after reading the book, he was just keeping a stone face, because he was just as shocked as they were. I don’t think she was going for shrubs. I think she wanted to replace the trees. 🌲

of all 3 scenes, the last is honestly my favourite. It's easy to threaten someone who is worthless, and be protected by rank when literally the highest rank person is the one saying to protect her. (the soldier that did it was SOL with or without the confession... he was told to protect myne, myne got hurt and no one else is even scratched... ya, he is not getting off easy, no matter WHAT happened) but the last scene has someone who has trained to become a knight, barely do anything, and yet restore so little. then Myne hops in, after (not shown here) giving the entire force a massive buff, still has enough mana to not only instantly restore the entire battlefields area, but cause plants to instantly grow probably half a foot high on top of it... in other words, if the knight used 10 mana, she just used 20,000, and then has to be told to stop when she clearly could keep going as well.

@@MrAntice the devouring, and if you notice, he says "a little to much, if you ask me" in other words, he was concerned of getting the ground oversaturated with mana... I only know the anime, so manga might have elaborated on this, but I suspect if it got to oversaturated then it would make a trombe (the plant monster thing) infestation there more likely, and way worse. could also just be a matter of to much is bad to... like how you can actually drown plants with water.

@@banaman7746mana ingested in various ways by flora and fauna does create monsters, monsters are refining that mana to useful ...er.. ingredients. Now, mana in that country is basically the base material for anything. Ferdi here wants enough mana formthe flora and faune to prosper, to create some monsters to farm and generally be healthy land. If myne overpours the mana, the whole thing goes outa whack and trombes will be your least problem.

Later on, he was concerned that she was able to replenish the area so quickly, without very much strain, and seeming to have more Mana left to continue. He believes she would grow up to have more Mana than most nobles, and was very concerned. But the light novels also point out that he never shows his feelings on his face, usually anyway

He was from a noble family, one linked with the city’s leader (Ferdinand’s step mother is his sister) but his mana was so massively weak, he never would make it in the Noble academy. (Yes, there is ‘a difference’, but honestly, the difference is bullshit and convoluted.)

@@Norinia It probably has to do with the authors interest in medieval culture. Nobles considered themselves better than commoners. Nobles with high Mana were considered better than other nobles. Then, of course, there’s first wives second wife, mistress. Making a complicated political situation. Something that myne/Urano struggled with.

Small spoiler warning: Just a quick observation really , At this point of the story it is not explained how powerful Ferdinand is, as in he probably ranks in the top 10 in Yurgenschmidt and is number 1 in Ehrenfest with mana capacity, and Myne's crushing managed to make him bleed. If is was not for the fact that Myne's mana is killing her at this point in the story then the Ascendence of the bookworm would have been a Shônen style story like Naruto or Bleach. In short Myne's power is really fucking scary.

That's one thing i like about Ascendence, she is very much in a Naruto/Bleach situation with her power, but the story doesn't tip toe around how great of a threat it is to everyone including herself if she can't learn how to control it and release it safely. There is no doubt the world has a system for someone of her magical strength but physical weakness to get it under control, just time will tell if she has the willpower to take that control into her own hands, or if she will still be reliant on others to help her manager her power.

Response to spoiler . . . . . To be fair, Ferdinand was expecting a 7 y.o. child with the devouring. To him, this means that her mana level would be extremely low given her age as she hasn't entered a contract for magic tools or had another means to expel her excess mana. Conventional logic would have never led him to conclude that he was dealing with a child with high archnoble level mana; he's completely caught off guard.

To be fair at this point Ferdinand hasn’t started using the Rosamyne compression method. So he maybe rank 1 in ehrenfest. But he was hardly the beast he become later on. Also, he is done with his growth period, while Myne is exponentially increasing her mana for the past 2 years.

She would have been executed on the spot. (SPOILERS) The high priest is related to the lord and he has royal blood in his veins. Ferdinand is a trained noble from birth. Should she have caused the bishop any real harm she would have been dead in an instant. It was only because she was able to control her rage which sparked interest in Ferdinand for her. Before this meeting she was going to be a grey shrine maiden. Only after showing Ferdinand she had lots of mana and the ability to control it was she given any amount of leeway.

this is absolutely not a slice of life. Its a Character Drama. Rose/myne has objectives and is always dealing with them with heirarchal need of immediacy. its why she invests so much effort into inventing the Movable Type Printing Press, invents papermaking, and subsequently proceeds to gain progressively more political power and agency. Myne is only really happy while reading or learning and is violently dragging the kingdom into an golden age and industrial revolution so she can feed the addiction to reading.

I can understand people wanting to watch something that's dubbed in their language however, I think there are sometimes that depending on the dubbing cast subtitles can be better than dub I have run into my fair share of poorly made dubs a good example of that is "is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon." But in this case, this anime scratches both itches. It's a good sub and a good dub!

Now see I'm always confused by this, I haven't watched the series yet but I've been thinking of doing so. Why is it the light blue haired guy doesn't step in? Is he below the Authority, is he incompetent and apathetic towards the situation of her parents potentially dying and her losing everything she's ever loved? Or is he just sickeningly curious as to what would happen when her parents were threatened?

Essentially, the one getting chocked is the Bishop of the Duchy's (_Ehrenfest_) temple and the blue robe is the High Priest (_Ferdinand_). I believe the sub and dub are both good though sometimes the dub feels a little awkward, but it's still good at least in my opinion!

The head priest is noted for being flat and emotionless. Except after mine was injured, the book described him as furious and Karstadt mentioned he’d never seen him so angry before

I think the dub is ok it's not the best but it's not the worst dub either I'd say the worst dub to recent memory is is it ok to pick up girls in a dungeon the dub is really bad...

@officerb96 well I can't stand high pitched Japanese voices anyway. They never fit the character. Watching a show in your own native language is always best. I don't even pay attention to who the voice actors are so that doesn't bother me lol.

The anime adaptation for season 3 agreed, the series nah they rushed so much story they even skip one of the important scene which her funeral. The LN itself is very popular everytime new LN drop it's usually at the top 1-3 Jp LN sales. See how anime popularity compared to LN the anime didn't do great job at adapting it

Ferdinand was ok being quiet when Main's father was being threatened and didn't say a word to stop the old d-bag,but when she defends her family all of a sudden he has something to say...

Ferdinand is a complicated character. Additionally, as mind points out, this is a class base Society and a commoner is at the bottom. The same way it was in medieval Europe or feudal Japan. He wasn’t really in a position to go against the high Bishop. And he was considering mine when he stopped her from killing the high Bishop. It wouldn’t have bothered him if he died. He had every intention of honoring the initial agreement with mine. And after the high Bishop was unconscious, he actually did agree to Myne’s conditions. Characters need a character arc. His relationship with mine didn’t just affect her. It affected him too.
