Building the motorcycle from the Walking Dead. I will followup with mini-videos on the different parts to the Daryl Dixon Motorcycle build, but this came out great and was a lot of fun for my first build. I hope you get some insight on how to do this project and keep in mind KZfaq limits these things to 15 minutes, so there is only so much you can squeeze into one video!

What intakes did you put on the carbs? And what mods did you make to the carbs to accept the increased airflow
@CLTaggart
@CLTaggart 6 жыл бұрын
You should be able to see those in the video. The air intakes were custom made by Steel Dragon Performance. After installing them, instead of re-jetting, I took it to a dyno tune shop as they would do the tuning and the jetting at the same time for $400, so that was a no brainer.

hey i have a question : The front wheel size of a yzf r6 is 120/70-ZR17 but the only kenda big block tires that i found similar are 120/70/12. Did you use different tyres? If not how did you deal with this? Thanks in advance you are one of my inspiration for building my first bike
@CLTaggart
@CLTaggart Жыл бұрын
You are correct. The wheels are stock CB-750 off of several bikes from 1991-1993. The R6 is used for the fork and you have to modify the triple tree.
@the_notoriu5
@the_notoriu5 7 жыл бұрын
This is exactly what I've been waiting for, there are so many before and after with no real explanations as to what has been done. I'm not sure if I have been talking to you on the cb750 forum but if not could you tell me what exactly you had to do to the tank to get it to fit? I'm thinking I may need to hammer out the underside to fit over the cb frame. Any advice would be really helpful. I'm literally doing this build as we speak 👍🏻
@CLTaggart
@CLTaggart 7 жыл бұрын
Jonny Prytherch if you have the correct tank you should not have to hammer it out. The tank that I got that was from Mikexs.net fit great. I am not sure what happens if you have an actual original 1977 tank or other. As you can see in the video the CB 750 stock frame has two mounting protrusions sticking out at the neck. Those have to be cut off or you have to modify the tank to fit them. I found that the easier way was cut them off. Then you have to weld on two channels on either side of the frame to match the location of the new tank. I was fortunate that someone on the XS650 forum that I also checked out had a couple of the brackets, but now that I'm pretty good with welding I could've made those brackets myself. What I would do if I need them again is take a small piece of flat steel and bend it around to a curved shape to match what I have in the video. Then I would take a thin piece of flat steel and welded on the backside and grind it together so that it looks like that. All it has to do is weld on to the frame so that the rubber grommets on the new tank will slide in.
@the_notoriu5
@the_notoriu5 7 жыл бұрын
CLTaggart thanks for your help buddy. I have an original tank so hoping it doesn't need to much work. I will definitely cut off the frame fixings and make some c cups to weld on frame. What petcock setup do you have? I have a double petcock tank and was wondering if you had the same. If so how do the fuel lines setup?
@CLTaggart
@CLTaggart 7 жыл бұрын
Jonny Prytherch mine is also the double petcock set up. I will shows that in a following video, when I get the bike back from having the bags made. In the meantime, there is actually a thread between me and a couple other guys on the CB 750.com website. Just do a search for Darryl Dixon bike, and you will find it. It is pretty detailed with diagrams. Basically, you just have to T them together and go right

Great video! It appears that you're using the entire front end off the other bike, including the wheel and disc brake assembly. But what do you do for the rear so that it matches the front, are you using the original bikes rear wheel or are you swapping that out as well?
@CLTaggart
@CLTaggart 5 жыл бұрын
Good question - the entire backend is CB-750. The front end is blended in to the bike based on the triple otherwise it would not work. Hope that helps.

Hi there. I am going to buy an 80% already started and built replica except now it is time to the the front and rear suspension. What year R6 front works were used? Also what rear ones, size? and was there any modifications or welding needed for the rear shocks? I found the company to buy them from but they were not sure of the exact size. I thought they said 13.5" or 14.5" option. They no longer make them in the brass finish though so kind of a bummer. Thanks for any help.
@CLTaggart
@CLTaggart 3 жыл бұрын
I want to say the front end R6 was around 2006. Really it does not matter as long as you get the look right. You still will need a modified triple tree which is the fun part. On the shocks, there was no welding at all. You have to measure the distance and then guess at the right one as there was no model for the CB750 in the book to look up when I went to a shop for a set. I got it right on the first try. I will warn you, it is a tiiiiigggghhhht ride. If you loosen them a little for comfort your license plate will hit the tire and if you tighten them your teeth will chatter when you hit a numb. I went in between and just have a slightly bent license plate, which actually gets me through a few rolls as the camera does not pick it up.

How did you swap the forks exactly? Also the rear suspension?
@CLTaggart
@CLTaggart 6 жыл бұрын
That is a long story. The forks were easy enough, but the hard part is you need to convert it over to the CB750 frame. One of the comments below discusses that, but you can get a conversion kit for the top and bottom triple from cognitomoto.com - The rear I just installed the shocks. Make sure you measure them real close as there is no listing for the actual distance.

Hi Chuck, could you tell me how did you make you rust mixture and how did you apply it ? I know that we have to mel some peroxyde hydrogen, vinegar and salt, but don't know the volumes and how exactly you apply it on the tank? With a paint brush or something like that? Thanks 😊
@CLTaggart
@CLTaggart 7 жыл бұрын
Juju Mars The combo I used is: 2 cups Hydrogen Peroxide 3 ounces White vinegar 1 Tbsp Salt You should only need to do this one time. I sprayed it and then sprayed it a second time because it was not dark enough and it went too dark as it continues to darken for a bit. Use a brush or something to guide the streak marks. Once done rinse it off and then put multiple seal coats with a really good clear coat. The best I found was USC Spray Max 2k High Gloss on Amazon.

@CLTaggart
@CLTaggart 7 жыл бұрын
I am not sure if it completely stops the process, but you want to get everything off of the tank so that it slows down and the tank is ready for a clear coat. Once the clear coats are on it should stop the process since air won't get to it.
@jujumars3022
@jujumars3022 7 жыл бұрын

What thickness and what are the dimensions of the flat steel front grill? And how did you make it?
@CLTaggart
@CLTaggart 6 жыл бұрын
I believe it is 1/8 inch steel. I bought it at Home Depot. The mesh part I got from a local steel company, and I had to buy a 2x2 section. It was not cheap and I opted for steel vs aluminum to be able to rust it. In the video, you can see it, but basically I measured a square and cut the flat steel from Home Depot. I welded a square and then using shears cut a section of the mesh steel. I welded that on to the square I made. The I got a couple of steel washers from Ace Hardware and welded those on for the holes for the cables. Finally, I took a little black paint and rubbed it on a few spots to match it to the show and then clear coated it.
