Apologies for it not being a Build video as promised. But I'll be back to it next week. p.s. I know that the exhaust goes into the front tyre on this. My mistake.

For a shed build bobber. Use the swinging arm as a guide and a jig for your rear axle plates. Lower the cradle to the height you want for ground clearance. Place the rear wheel into the tacked on axle plates. You shout now see the line to follow from the headstock . Remove all the top tubes from the stock frame. Install a single backbone from the headstock . ( align it with the centre of the tire) Now you have a point to work to with your hard tail. Good old fashioned gas pipe works well as a material for knocking up rear ends. Use a tube bender to put angles in all 4 hardtail tubes. Good luck. Any questions?

I tried something similar to this in late 80s, hardtail, american made short girder forks, with headstock, fitted by hand cutting 5mm gusset plates to mate to original headstock, all frame brackets cleaned up, The only critiical issues i found were...making sure the chain and sprockets lined up perfectly, getting the carbs jetted properly to run k&n filters(massive pain), bigger jets needed, hours of trying needle positions, long full length open pipes, with very minimal baffles, to give enough exhaust back pressure, a new wiring loom made up, to replace the brittle old mess!!, ........new old stock points carefully set, .....

I don't know if it is a bobber or what it is called. I once borrowed a bike that was at its core a HD Sportster. But it had Fat Boy front forks, a larger tear drop tank and a fatter rear tire. The front I think was standard Sportster. I had never rode a bike like that and was concerned it would be tricky or unstable. Oh my, it was so comfortable, fun and balanced. And the smaller front tire made it a joy to steer. The handlebars I think were "Mini Apes" so you really sat "in" the bike, low center of gravity and you could lean back and really relax with the EZ steering. So I'm thinking or building one. Just looking for the best donor bike.

A sawed off seat bracket with a peice of foam and vynle does not make a bobber ...thank you for putting down some real guidelines of a true bobber.The world is full of removed seats and calling it a bobber. More than a hard ride to have a hardtail its a VERY squirrely ride.For a beginner rider.No shocks no suspension means the rear end "bobbs " a round losing grip and traction. It looks very cool parked. But using one everyday as transportation a cafe or half cafe A "de-caf" is tracker handle bars no rear sets , standard foot control position and the rest following a cafe styled bike a "de-caf" is most practical for everyday transport and safest. The cafe position keeps your head low below seeing over traffic again looks cool but not a safe road driving position. The more upright you can be to be alert and very aware is parimount over style..
@forthebold
@forthebold 6 жыл бұрын
True, I always think of a bobber being hard tailed as you 'bob' around on your seat then, although the new Triumphs have integrated shocks whist maintaining that hard tailed look.

For The Bold - dreegez I built and drove everyday for a year till the 1982 motor thru a rod.A bobber is great to look at but riding everyday you get beat up.They are awesome to look at great to blast on once in a while .

For The Bold - dreegez I have since built a cafe styled 550 kawasaki from an 1982 ltd.has GPZ tank a bubble seat I made in metal , a universal front fairing and a gpz. Front fender , low rize handle bars .. Its way less scary and twitch on road irregularitys feels planted on all road surfaces and works well as an everyday driver. I get a lot of complements from bikers its a cafe style without clip ons and rear sets .which is the better safer more defensive upright driving position I preferr on a daily driver.

Hey man, love the videos and love the direction your channel is moving in. Just had one question... if you remove the oil tank on the bobbers and cafe racers what do you replace it with to feed oil to the bike? Is it oil for the engine or oil cooling? Thanks
@forthebold
@forthebold 7 жыл бұрын
That's true, the 750s were dry sump, so needed the oil fed from a tank. In terms of relocating Cognito Moto do an amazingly thin tank that fits between the frame and hides in between the pillars.

I looked at AFTER EFFECTS something i dont understand though ,d id you already have the pictures of the bike stripped at various stages or did you have to take them as you stripped the bike and load them up to make the whole bike in the first shot then you have the ability to remove them one by one to strip the bike back down ? , if so to much work it would take me less time to get the angle grinder out but its very impressive software thanks for making this.

Great help. My first street bike was a cb750 for street riding a 1969. and two yrs old . tells you I am a dinosaur. You seem like just the man for a question I have. I have my hands on two Harley 48 1200 Sportsters. both of them were butchered in trying to turn them out for bobbers. (I think) The rear fenders were torn off. there are a couple of ripped up bobber seats. I think the bracket may be salvageable on one, but the other is totaled. both swing arms and rear shocks are hanging on by a thread. One of the gas tanks may be able to fix, but I don't know. Any way I think I can pull them both back together, but I don't know how I should handle the frames. Build em back up to original, or toss it all and go with hard tail ridged. and just do a simple bob on them. Got any ideas? I know it's hard with out pictures. Thanks.
@forthebold
@forthebold 7 жыл бұрын
Definitely a tricky one, If it was me I'd use the better one as a base and the other as parts. Does the gas tank have any pin holes, POR15 should do the trick for that. The simplest way would be a bobber that a hard tailed for sure, let me know what you decide on doing, p.s. I would love to get my hands on a sportster.
