I do understand why many see Das Boot as strictly an anti-war movie but the way I see it the film is simply honest about what it means to fight in a war. It clearly displays the terror and hardship but it also isn't silent about things like the courage, energetic excitement of battle and comradship. Also the criticism of big shot politicians who are running their mouths while the crew do the hard and dangerous work or the military leadership whose errors are putting their lives at risk wasn't really against the "Nazi cause". The war clearly wasn't a black/white conflict and it's naive to see it through such a modern lens. So even if it was anti-Nazi (which it isn't) that doesn't equal anti-war. Troy on the other hand is an adventure film based on an ancient epic. I'm pretty sure you won't find a single movie magazine that classifies it as a war or anti-war film. ;)

Useless wishful thinking. It is just as saying that if Germany had 100k tanks in 1940 they would have won the war. Even if Germany decided to completely abandon the idea of building their surface fleet they it is doubtful if they could be able to build 500 UBoots until 1940. And even if they managed to achieve that, they would still lose a land war to the Soviets. Let alone the fact that the germans would not be able to operate this many UBoots in 1940 due to insufficient amount of trained crews. It should also be noted that in only two months of the war the german navy and luftwaffe were able to sink more merchant ships than the UK produced in this same month. Meaning that Germany never even came remotely close to winning the battle of the Atlantic. When US joined the war their new required goal of merchant ships to sink was unachievable. Allies would still be able to counter UBoots (seeing how they would not need to build a surface fleet to challenge the german fleet) and could concentrate on escort ships they were badly lacking. Either way in 1943 again the allies would be sinking more UBoots than germans would be sinking merchant ships, so Germany would lose the way anyway :)
