I love the witty deadpan jokes that you can easily miss, like the one where Wadsworth says to Plum: “you once … specializing in helping paranoid and homicidal maniacs suffering from delusions of grandeur.” Plum: “Yes but now I work for the United Nations” Wadsworth: “Well your work has not changed…”

Clue is such a gem. Though the whole cast is fantastic, Tim Curry carries the film on his shoulders. His madcap recap/reenactment of the whole movie prior to the reveals is such an incredible performance. Definitely check him out in Ridley Scott's Legend (with Tom Cruise) and Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Someone probably already said this, but when Clue came out in the theaters, it was released with each region of the country receiving a movie with a different ending. When the movie came out in VHS and later in CD's they added all endings together with the cards added to transition from one ending to another.

*_CLUE!! The GREAT CLASSIC!! It is one of those movie that not only didn't get the respect it deserved when it first came out (But later became a cult classic!) but was WAAAAY ahead of it's time, with its multiple ending; which, when it played in theatres, had only one of the three endings playing in such a way that one would not know which ending they would get when they went in (I still maintain that, had that movie with those ending gimmicks come out in the heydays of Social Media: It would have created a fire storm of Tweets that would have made it the most watched and re-watched movie that year! But alas, in the pre-internet 80S, word-of-mouth didn't travel nearly fast enough to create such an effect and I don't even recall them doing any promotional work that could have made people believe they might not get the same ending as others by going to see it -A grave mistake!)_* *_It was SO REFRESHING to see a reactor who actually IS a fan of the game and could appreciate all the references of the people's aliases, the weapons and the secret passages! Great reaction!_*

I kinda wish some movie would do this. A he said vs she said movie with different versions over who was actually right-one where she was in the right, one where he was in the right and the most widespread version where they each had a point. And somehow keep it secret at first. No advertising to ruin in. Just let viral marketing take the wheel. Like the blue gold/white yellow dress. Just sit back and let the internet go wild. Then after a month reveal the truth. Absolute chaos. And I agree. Best reaction I've seen to this movie.

Dasha, now you should watch "Murder By Death" (1977) "Clue" is more or less a remake of Murder by Death and Eileen Brenan (Mrs. Peacock) is actually in it as well. For some reason very few people ever mention it. If you like the comedy of Clue you will enjoy Murder by death with Peter Falk.

It's SO cute watching you geek out over all the game references. Don't apologize for it. The cast and how they play off one another in this is FANTASTIC. Wadsworth's surprised reaction to Green coming out is even funnier when you've seen the true ending. He's confusedly looking through the dossier because that's NOT what the real Green was being blackmailed for, and Wadsworth knows since he's actually the blackmailer. A lot of people miss it because she's speaking so softly, but when Yvette is killed her French accent drops, showing that she's not really who she claims to be. When the movie originally played in theaters the endings were random, so part of the draw was that you never knew which of them you'd see. Unfortunately, the stunt actually ended up hurting the film's box office.

Fun fact: The original game, Cluedo, to give it it's proper name, is a British board game originally made by Waddingtons. The name is a mix of the words 'Clue' and Ludo, another popular board game which dates back to the 6th century(!) and the Latin word meaning 'I play'. It was licensed to Parker Brothers in the US who renamed it 'Clue' as Ludo wasn't well known in the US and the average American had little knowledge of Latin. These days it's owned by US company Hasbro. The butler is played by Tim Curry, best known as Frank N Furter in film version of The Rocky Horror Show.

Clue is one of those I think you relearn to enjoy when you get older. I & most of my family & friends at least did along with other games like monoply or scotland yard among others which as kids seemed to be a bit longer & harder to play let alone win which i think impacts why people especially teens start to lose interest in playing them.

During its theatrical run the each showing of the movie actually used only one of the endings. So you had to go to multiple showings to see all three. For the home movie release they chained them together and picked the last one as the final ending.

Hey, Dasha! Kudos for reacting to this movie! It's definitely one of my favorites! I saw it in a theater and my multiplex in New York played all three options. You bought an A, B or C ticket which designated the auditorium the specific ending was featured in. I bought the VHS and then the DVD. I must have seen this film over thirty times! It never gets old. Tim Curry gives a tour-de-force performance as Wadsworth. Christopher "Doc Brown" Lloyd from "Back to the Future" played the licentious Prof. Plum! Madeline Kahn was a mainstay of Mel Brooks films. Michael McKean would later be a cast member of "Saturday Night Live". The cast are all comedy greats in perfect sync with each other. It's a wonderful little gem. There's been talk of a remake but this is a lightning-in-a-bottle situation like "Ghostbusters" or "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World!" A different cast would change the dynamic completely. Many reactors try to solve the murders but the crimes are incidental to the comedy! While all three solutions hold up under close scrutiny, you're not expected to identify the right culprit although there's no harm in trying. It's really just meant to be a madcap backstage farce all in good fun! The board game is a perennial staple like Monopoly that's been around since 1949! The movie utilizes all the characters, weapons, rooms and secret passages that are components in the game. Boddy Mansion is the setting of the game and it is Mr. Boddy's murder players attempt to solve. Another good comedic whodunnit is "Murder By Death" which features parody versions of the great cinematic sleuths like Charlie Chan, Nick and Nora Charles, Sam Spade, Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple gathered together by real-life true-crime author Truman Capote. A terrific whodunnit with a psychological twist is "Identity"! Trivia unrelated to the production: Lesley Ann-Warren and Susan Sarandon have been mistaken for each other so often in real life that the actresses agreed to sign autographs using their doppelganger's name if erroneously requested by fans!

I loved Clue, but no one else I knew did. You didn't seem to recognize that Prof. Plum was Doc Brown from Back to the Future. Mrs. white was the singer from Blazing Saddles and the fiance from Young Frankenstein. Tim Curry was Frank N Furter from The Rocky Horror Picture Show (which you may not have seen). He's also been in a LOT of other things, but he's very good at not playing the same type of character. For a movie that is similar to this, but not based on a board game, you should check out Murder by Death. It's another murder comedy set in a mansion, but there's a lot of homework before you watch it. All the characters are parodies of other fictional detectives, so you need to be familiar with them. A few would make good reaction channel content (Maltese Falcon, the Thin Man), some would border on hate crimes (any of the Charlie Chan movies). The rest would probably be a little boring. (any Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot that aren't the new ones from Agatha Christie.)

Great reaction to an awesome movie! When the movie was released to theaters each copy of it had just one ending. I remember a couple of friends of mine saw it with their parents at different theaters and they were confused when they were talking about it later because they had each seen a different ending. 😀 It wasn't until it came out on videotape that they put all three endings together. Originally they were going to have an ending for each person to be the murderer, but they only did three. And I like how Mr. Green's ending went. It never made sense to me playing the game that I would win by proving that I was the murderer, but in the movie Mr. Green's ending made sense. 😀 I also love the Clue game and I miss being able to play it. Wish you lived closer cos I'd play it with you any time! 🙂

I thought Clue was OK; it was a weak story but the wonderful actors went a long way in making it better than the script they were given. Something of a similar vein, as in a comedy who-done-it, is Murder by Death. The only issue is that for younger viewers they may not understand that all of the detectives are parodies of movies from the 30's and 40's and crime novels that preceded them. Sam Diamond = Sam Spade/ie Humphry Bogart Sidney Wang = Charlie Chan Milo Perrier = Hercule Poirot(Agatha Christie novels) Dick and Dora Charleston = Nick and Nora Charles(Thin Man series) Jessica Marbles = Miss Marple(again Christie novels)

The movie took a big risk upon initial release and actually sent the movie out to the theaters with each of the different endings but not providing all of the endings for a single showing. So you'd go to the theater and the people in the next town over would get a different ending. The home distribution (vcr, dvd, etc.) edit all of these together to show you all of the endings they filmed.
