As an Icelandic person I have to say that I am amazed at how accurate some parts of this mod is. Bónus is real grocery store in Iceland and so is the gas station N1 (named after road number 1 that goes around the country) it is this rare to see other cars on the road in the country side and if you don't have chain tiers or nail tires you are screwd! the signs look like this and some part of the roads and scenery is almost 90% accurate! well done whomever made this!

I agreed that Borgarnes area and some others are inaccurate. But you can't say that Holmavik - Isafjordur is inaccurate. Of course it's condensed because of 1:19 scale. Older parts of Iceland map are sometimes inaccurate because previous mapper had very little knowledge about these areas. And sometimes you just can't recreate everything 1:1 with ETS limitations. If you have any specific issues to point out I'll be glad to hear them. But hearing that generally "roads are seruisly in acurate" is really tough after hunderds of hours put into creating them.

As an icelander I had good luck bumping into this video, good job mate, looks ok for icelandic scenery and alot of nice details like the signs and companies, but also had some really bad stuff, and as a final point that airfield in the end is real, and its an experience landing there, first time I went a group in the airplane screamed when making the turn at bottom of fjörd :)

I like your comments on living remotely, in areas of Scotland, your water may be mains from a reservoir, but it could also be piped in from a pool in stream further up the hill, which can freeze in the winter. I did have a holiday in Ardnumurchan at Christmas one year. Romantic ideals go out the window. Christmas morning you wake and you open the windows to a black void. You have 6 hours of daylight, if the weather is bad, your not going anywhere. Where I was there was 30 miles of narrow single track road. 60 miles to the next petrol station. We had an 18 hour powercut. The house we stayed in and a few others around looked very like the house in Father Ted. We had one shop which charged you to pump petrol and it sold everything, one pub and a community centre. Oh and a cemetery. Driving in these little squiggly roads is fun, till you get in a hail storm, at night. The landscapes were amazing. The likes of Amazon do really well out there. By the way, those poles by the side of the road are left overs from WW2, to stop German gliders from landing.. No really they are snow poles, tell you where the road is. I once came across some where the top half were bent over. I couldn't work it out. Then someone said the snow had covered them, then the snow on top few feet slid down the hill bending the poles as it went.

I drove this road a few years ago during my two week holiday on Iceland. This road was amazing, the fjords we followed looked beautiful and the change in dirt and tarmac all the time made this road a never leaving memory. Promods has done a really good job in recreating this road, it looks very similar and the textures are gorgeous. When we drove here a few years ago, we stayed at a camping in Ísafjörður. This was the best camping we stayed at during our holiday, it was called Tunguskogur and I would recommend it to everyone who is going to do a road trip through Iceland. You should also visit Bolungarvík, where they have a indoor swimming pool. When you continue following the 630 you'll reach a beautifully small beach, which I also recommended. (I tried to use my best English in this post. If you've a correction feel free to tell them because I can learn from them 😊).

That V8 sound is pretty spot on. The "pneumatic" sound on the gear change, has no place there. It does have something to do with changing the gears, it is the sound of the turbo spooling down when you engage the clutch after heavy loads. So when shift up during acceleration it should be there once. The pneumatic sound of the split or range being changed is a short hiss and click sound, (a small actuator being extended or retracted.) and not a whoosh of air.

As someone who has driven this route in a truck in real life quite a few times I must say it's rather accurate. Although there isn't any snow in these parts during July (the temperature usually hovers around the 10°C mark in the summer but can go up to and even over 20°C) and all those houses you talk about are farms. The town with the airport (Ísafjörður) is remarkably well modelled and yes it's an airport with two scheduled domestic flights a day to Reykjavík and some private plane traffic as well. The Bónus store is actually right were it is should be with the Orkan petrol station as well. The only thing I saw really wrong with the map were those two tunnels early on, before you got to Borgarnes, they do not exist, and it was missing a few of the fjords along the way (IRL you drive the coast of four of them all the way, two are connected close to the bottom and two of them have bridges over them). Also you would not drive this route anymore as there was a new road opened in 2009, if my memory serves me right, that would get you rid of the gravel parts and connects right before the village you guessed was about half way (which is is really close to be, so good guess). The part that you had your problems on the snowy mountain we often use chains and I for one have driven over there with about 5-10 meter visibility a few times and those who drive this route on the daily have all had their fair share of adventures there I think.
@vdHmods
@vdHmods 8 жыл бұрын
I'm glad that you find that route accurate. We made north Iceland snowy for variety. ETS2 doesn't support changing seasons and we wanted to add some snowy parts, even if it's not that realistic. South part of Iceland is made as it should be in summer with temperatures form 9 to 15 degrees. I agree that Borgarnes is wrong, but it was modelled in first version of Promods Iceland by developer that had not that much experience at that time. Hopefully one day we will be able to rebuild it properly. Fjord number is lower than in real life because of ETS2 scale. We have to fit as much as we can in 1:19 scale, so sadly we had to ditch over half of fjords on that route. We plan to add route 60 and missing 61 part, so route that you are talking about will be available some day. Thank you for your input.

We know that. Sadly ETS2 doesn;t support dynamic season so we decided to make it a bit less realistic but give players some winter challenge. So basically north is depicted like it was winter, south is like summer.

Squirrel - here in Norway, as well as in Iceland, we have an extra module in our driver's tests. It's called slippery driving and is why Icelandic and Norwegian drivers are concidered some of the most experienced in these types of conditions. PRO TIP: When trying to do a hill-start or similar in slippery or snowy conditions, NEVER touch the gas. Simply work the clutch, and ONLY the clutch. The engine will have too much torque if you touch the gas, and you'll be stuck with spinning tires, going nowhere.

Cant wait to drive this route myself, although I'ma do it properly, with a tag lift :p Those have a whole lot more traction than a 2 axle truck, its a reason why most semis in Norway are sold with a taglift, and its a reason why all the polish drivers with 2 axles get stuck here xD

Wouldn't adding axles that are not driven just make the problem worse? They just take some of the weight and traction away from the driven axle. What you want is 6×4, but at least on the stock trucks, none of those have liftable axles.
@atllep98
@atllep98 8 жыл бұрын
***** I am not 100% sure how it works, but I believe the extra axle spread the weight more, so you dont get stuck as easy. And when you lift the axle, you actualy get more pressure on the drive axle than you would without that extra lifted axle, which then gives more traction.

nice piece of information here, coming from an Icelander. Almost every house in Iceland has hot water, cold water, sewage, electricity, and cellphone reception. It's wery rare to see a house in Iceland that douesn't have one or more of these things. Seeing as in this time and age, you're not going to want to live in a house without these basic necessities.

Not that I think it matters a lot in this game however those 2 axels trucks are usually the worst on snow and always get stuck up here in the winter. We use trucks with boggie or tandem drive to help us get forward in the winter time and lift the rear axle to get more weight on the powered axle or what its called.

i went on vacation to Iceland a couple years back, we rented a RV and took the coastal road all around the circumference of the island. absolutely gorgeous country with a surprising amount of diversity to the scenery, just no trees lol the traffic in this is pretty realistic also.

I got to drive around parts of east Iceland (Egilsstaðir, Reyðarfjörður and Eskifjörður) back in November, really enjoyed the experience so definitely going to have to download this mod.

I remember on vacation on Iceland once, and we rented an car. If you want to drive on those dirt roads, or to glaciers etc you must have an approved vehicle to travel those roads. As Insurance wont cover an stuck Fiat Panda off roading like Toyota Land-Cruisers on stilts :D

I think it was beer in that trailer, you need a truckload of beer a week to survive the winter in such remote areas, also who would need a truck load of frozen processed fish products TO a fishing village :). And the orange road signs are temporary information signs. The airfield is also real and I think fairly accurate in the game, you should check it out in FS.

Decent reverse at the end. Its a much more realistic delivery point. I had to reverse a 70ft car transporter into a dealership in the middle of Glasgow City last week and no one has the patience to wait and give you room, at least in Iceland it seems quiet enough to do it at your own pace lol.

I've found that it is easier if you put on your trailer brake, put your low gear and give it revved . slowly let your clutch out until you have friction the release the trailer brake. this seem like the easiest solution to use on incline starts

Grolsch isn't German beer! It's one of the best dutch beers brewed in Enschede (which is very close to the German border, though).

A tiny correction Squirrel, Iceland lies below the arctic circle... In Norway, north of the arctic circle, it's completely dark 24/7 during the winter and during summertime it's sun 24/7... It's actually no biggie to live here though temperatures tend to crawl down to -50*C in January-February, if we're really lucky we can get Southern-European temperatures during the summer :)

Squirrel , the sound was originally created based on the modern Scania R or Streamline by Kreichbaum , it seems to be ported from him , then again , lots of Scania mods use his work. I do see what you mean when you say it sounds like a 143m V8 engine , but it wasn't intended as it.

It certainly sounds like the old 143 Scania V8, but the starter motor sounds like that on the Scania 4-series. The 3-series starters didn't "whine" when engaged I thought
