Yeah I have no idea how much to trust the star ratings even after doing all this. Certainly not entirely. The sort of rigour one would need to test that out strays into EBFM territory. For now I'm still trying to use the star ratings and this together

I'm using IFB-D, BWM-D, AP-S, IF-A, AM-S so I've been trying to understand the technical aspects to modify to suit. Suppose it gets you more views though... 😂

@@mabozar15 What I've done myself is that I've created a list of all the players of the top 5 leagues, put it into the scoring system, exported that and then filtered for each position by age and took the best 50 players per age group and took the average of those to create my thresholds. For goalkeepers, I exported an extra list with all gks in the database as those of the top 5 leagues are too small of a sample size to create thresholds by age group.

I'm not going to do all positions - it's a lot of work. But if you look at the spreadsheet you'll see the trajectories for the forward line positions (afa and inside forward) are quite similar to each other and that all the other outfield player positions (i.e. the midfielders and the defenders) are a step lower and similar to each other also. So if you simply said 'attackers', 'other outfield players' and 'goalkeepers' and just used those three curves I think it would work well enough to be useful. Hopefully its fairly clear how you might tweak the spreadsheet to make it do that

I play the games while I'm seeing what I've got at the start of the season / what adjustments to make and then often instant result from there, playing the games for more important matches only. The skin I use (TCS) makes that really easy. In the case of this Arsenal save once I got the squad in good shape the premier league fixtures I could instant result and I would focus on the champions league until I won it

There's the player search screen and then there's the shortlist screen, but they are different from each other. Generally filters are for the player search screen and the idea is you're filtering down from all the players your club knows about to a list of players with some specific characteristics you're looking for. You can also filter within a shortlist IYSWIM

Hmm dunno...I haven't tried to do it on FM23. If you make a really simple view with the date of birth as the fourth column over it ought to work - that's all the spreadsheet really needs to see (column D). If you add nationality in columns E and F (fifth and sixth) it will look to see if UK and Ireland, that's only if you care about that - I do as signing 'domestic' (=UK + Ireland) under 18s is allowed but not foreign for an English club

Time to implement fully = around the typical contract length at the level you're at, as that's how long it takes to churn an entire squad. In English football that's 4-5 years at premier league level, 2-3 years at championship level, 1-2 years at League 1 to conference level, 1 year below that. Bear in mind player value in the game depends on club reputation. If you sell young players to bigger clubs make sure you've got % of profit clauses that you can monetise later. If managing in Poland I'd be reading the foreign player rules for the league closely and going from there. Probably have half the squad ending up as cheap Paraguayans and Bolivians lol. Suggesting some players to sign etc. Would be fun

In google sheets go to File > Make a copy then that will get you your own version of the spreadsheet. Then follow the vid from 23:47 onwards. Good luck with it

You can tweak the spreadsheet - if you do I think a three-way split of 'forwards', 'other outfield players' and 'goalkeepers' will make enough sense. In the work I did forwards have slightly higher scores than other outfield players as you'll see in the numbers

Good spot! Yes it is. When I did the original views for this I left out the communication attribute in error. Seeing as it has had lots of downloads I've left it like that to avoid having it break for people...my keepers have done fine without it being included but yes strictly speaking it should be in there, with a weighting of 1

@@squirrel_plays_fof4318 Is this something that could be easily added to the app? No worries if not, I recognize that it won't have a big impact on the goalkeeper scores. Although I do like to give communication a weighting of 3 in my scoring rather than 1 :)

LOL the app I won't change as it has thousands of users already...if you want to be super-precise you could just go back to my early vids, get the underlying code and then amend that as you want to

Obvs if you prefer geniescout go for it, but for me I prefer to only use stuff that I can see from the game - this spreadsheet just does a re-calc based on stuff I can see so not CA and PA

Remember ability score outside of striker does not calculate ACC & Pace. This is what is wrong with CA/PA and Star ratings. Fm Arena and the Chinse Devs have covered this. The Chinese test was in a tactic with 0 Strikers and 0 players trained at striker because their CA/PA does calculate Acc/Pace but for example your Ball Player wont calculate speed at all. And we all know speed is the highest weighted metric at every position. Now if Money is no object typically the best wonderkids that cost the most money already have high physicals. But say for central defender all you really need is Acc/Pace/Jumping just those 3. So low league or Low nation you can go find those cheap gems that get you like 90% of a UCL player that costs >100 million and you bought him for like 500k. Plus once you deep dive how FM creates players it is completely unbalanced. You will notice the elite strikers can basically play any position on the pitch at the elite level. It is just how the game generates them. They will have high physicals and either having Jumping or not. IF they have Jumping that can play Ball Player Defender better then any newgen defender can. Positioning Marking and Tackling dont mean that much in the match engine. So if you retrain a Striker who has all 17s for physicals and maybe 14 jumping he will also have high everything else except those 3 "defense" attributes but he will be WorldClass and the best defender in the game.

I copy the data as shown in the video into the "From Scoring" and "DOB view" sheets. Then I go to "age in days" and change the date to the one in my save. All of the ages for the players are correct but when I go to "all positions" the ages for the players are wrong. For example in my save I am on the 29th of Nov 2029, and Tariq Fosu is 34 years old but in "all positions" it tells me that hes 18.5 years old. I go to "age in days" and it says "age by days" is 34.6, "age to use" is 34.6, lower bound is 34, and upper bound is 35. So I'm not sure where 18.5 comes from

I found the solution. I had the format of my date set as month/day/year so I had to switch it to day/month/year and now it works perfectly

Check to make sure dates are taken correctly on the age in days sheet. I'm from the US and my sheet was swapping the days and months because of how its displayed in game.

Good Q, thanks. I should have included this in the video. No they don't - you need 3 years at the club between 15 and 21 to get 'home grown at club' status and in a 25-man champions league squad there are four slots only for players with that status. If you sign non-UK under 18 players as an English club they will only sign after their 17th birthday (I think) and they will only join the club on their 18th birthday. If you leave them at the club for three years they will get to 'home-grown at club' at or around their 21st birthday. But of course you don't get the benefits of loaning them out. In my save I've been ensuring at all times I have four 'home grown at club' guys - typically through the academy - but having a few signed guys that I don't send out on loan until they are older than 21 to ensure we've got a healthy stock of them in the pipeline, IYSWIM

I play the games early on to see enough of how good the team is / players are and then I'm all about the instant result button except for the CL knockout games

If there's a range it will take the middle of the range. If it's not known it will take zero - so players who are more scouted will have higher numbers. Genie scout is different in that it looks at CA and PA which this doesn't...this only looks at stuff you can see for yourself in game and goes from there

One immediate thought - make sure you save your own version of the spreadsheet before you try to edit it as it's locked as view-only in the version I shared. Failing that have a go at following the instructions in the latter part of the video and if you get something that doesn't work do have a go at describing the problem here please and I'll see if I can help with it, cheers

I'm having the same issue with the trajectory values. Can see the current % but not trajectory. If I figure it out I'll reply again to this comment. To get values for your own squad, do the "all attributes squad" view and upload it on the webpage and copy the results to the spreadsheet the same way you did for the shortlist view, then do the "date of birth and nationality squad" view and put it in the relevant spreadsheet tab

Hello again, I've got it working! Here are the steps I went through to get it working: 1. Must go through the tabs in order! I originally had the DOB shortlist view in age of days, so the recommended tab messed everything up 2. Some players in the age_of_days tab did not have values for anything between "age_of_days" and "% of new year". I don't know why they didn't, they show on shortlist, I redid the upload a few times, etc. Some just didn't have values. Players MUST HAVE values for at least age of days and age to use to produce trajectory values. Filling in the other age related values gives you a more precise trajectory value. 3. It only shows position trajectories for the positions squirrel uses. If you did not have any positions selected when you uploaded the file, or have different positions, it won't give values for any position - but you will still get a max trajectory for their highest role score. If you want trajectories for your own roles, you'll have to alter the trajectory tab in the spreadsheet with your own values - can't give advice here, this will be whatever you deem important. Hope this helps!

It’s off, yeah. But if you have masking on it will still work - it will take the middle of the various ranges you can see in game. So I would then use it to direct the scouts at the most interesting prospects and then recalc it once they have been scouted

I've followed the issue further through (I have downloaded to use in Excel as am on Windows)... on the 'age_in_days tab, column B, C, D and E don't update. When I put my squad in, I'm still left with the dates of your Arsenal squad (and your about 15 years ahead which is what caused the issue above!) Not sure if this is an issue with my excel or if you'd just recommend using Sheets? I could manually input it I suppose
