Күн бұрынI tracked 4,000 young players through their careers using the app I've developed, which is based on python code, to learn as much as I could about how to find and develop the best newgens and wonderkids in Football Manager.
This video shows you a data-driven approach to rank young players and evaluate whether youth players are on track to reach the top level. I use that information to find players I think make sense to sign and then monitor whether to keep or sell once they are in my squad.
Then there's 5 things you can do to maximise development for young 'pathway' players, as well as whether your club should be doing youth development at all.

1. Fix the tactic first then recruit for the tactic
2. Squad grid - 2 per position
3. Sort out the finances
4. Player recruitment: Fill gaps, improve weak links (export attribute data from FM using filters then use python to rank and compare)

and it's absolutely subjective, too. i'm a sub on Z's twitch and a subscriber on youtube since it was the FM Base channel near 2018. i'll always click on a squirrel video before a zealand video, no matter the subject.

You and EBFM are doing incredible work. I've been using python for FM for a couple of years myself, but had no too much to go on when it came to attribute weights per role. Then I discovered FM-Arena's attribute table, and just a short while after your first video on the subject came out. I've been using your attribute weights in my own script for a while now, and it works great. Thank you for the work you're putting in!

Just want to say thanks! I've always analysed attributes and made excels for it in the past. I have no idea on coding but you've saved me hours of filling in data over the past couple of months... I build teams from personality first, driven will always be the biggest factor for me, but these are just managerial choices. Thanks for confirming so many of the intuition calls that we've all had to make in the game.

Really appreciate your work and analysis here! One thing that might be an interesting addition to the app you created is to to project each player's attributes and score into the future based on their current ability and estimated potential ability - obviously where they end up is how well their development is handled and their pathway but it would be very helpful to be able to compare youth talent to existing talent in the team via this ability projection. It can be hard to surface great youth talent in the current app as their score will naturally be lower than already developed players.

I took in a new gen in the national league and played him in every league including the prem. He scored 6 in 28 and we got relegated, but what's important is that he had one of the most remarkable careers in all of football. Ronnie Bennet 4eva.

Really well done. I wish you went a bit more indepth in the first part of the video but at the same time appreciate the concise video focused on key points. I think maximising youth intake specifically isn't really needed, you can run the club fine with a steady stream of transfers of talented 18 year olds (so they become homegrown). You can selectively target really good potentials with great personalities rather than rely on luck. Would be an interesting cost/benefit analysis whether it's worth investing something like 20-30 mil into youth facilities and 5 mil per year on running the youth setup. Also depends a lot on league rules, for example England is limited to 6 foreign u21 transfers per year so some domestic youth is still needed.

Really enjoy the video. I find your videos calming. I wondered if you had considered trying to integrate a weighting for the style of play an individual plans to use? It could get very complicated quickly but perhaps broadly approaches that value physical attributes (direct) vs ones technical ones (possession based). A weighting value could be used into the data analysis to place higher value on physical attributes (e.g. multiply all physical attributes values from the code by 1.25) if the individual selects direct tactics vs if they have a more technical one?

Thanks, much appreciated. Tactics is probably a bit of a stretch computationally I think. I would struggle to be able to say with any certainty what I think would work and what wouldn't - it's not obvious to me how I would start to quantify that. I do it instinctively though for sure - when I'm in lower leagues for example I play in a far more direct, physical-first style

I didn't do AMC I'm afraid - but the numbers / shape of the numbers would likely be very similar to AMRL (note that AMRL and Strikers generally have slightly better attribs than gks, defenders or midfielders)

No, you're right regarding Jumping Reach & Height. Height bizarrely doesn't make a noticeable difference to a CB (above an average threshold), I've found. It weirdly does for a FB, though. Heading is as important as Jumping Reach too.

Great vid, just wonder now as you talked about focusing on stats which are important is the inverse important too? It’s not uncommon to find regens with 18 bravery which is not really important for a winger. Are these needlessly high stats using up some of their potential in a way that’s not helpful.

Just reporting what I've read elsewhere...but as I understand it the Potential Ability (PA) is like a budget, and then the player's development 'spends' the PA on attributes...different attributes cost different amounts of PA versus others and have different amounts of impact in the match engine. If that's true then as I see it there are two routes to be an effective player: (1) to have loads of PA in which case there's a good chance plenty of it will land in effective places, or alternatively (2) have less PA but more targeted / lucky in where it lands. My theory is that by recruiting in a targeted way for players that are examples of (2) teams will be using resources better than trying to develop examples of (1). This list here looks about right: fminside.net/guides/basic-guides/30-personalities-in-football-manager I'm a bit reticient to add them to the filter or app as weighing up the personality vs the numbers is something I would rather do line-by-line than try to put in the calcs. Can certainly see why it would work though

What are your thoughts on the Spanish leagues or any other league that have reserves teams play in the actual football pyramid? For youth development, would it be better to keep players on the B/C teams or to loan them out?

I personally find success in keeping them because you can control tactic/how often they play etc. Only loan them out once they are too good for the level of the B team but not good enough for the squad.

Please kindly confirm If I am right at this.. 1. Create a shortlist 2. World icon -> youth intake -> select max 500 to your shortlist 3. Go t o your shortlist 4. Use all_atributes_shortlist view in your shortlist 5. Print and add it to app App shows the best youth player for our specific tactic, right? And this guy at the top will develop for world class player?

Your steps are correct but your conclusion isn’t. The app doesn’t know your tactic that is first. Second there no guarantees for player develop. He could get a spinal injury or multiple acl surgery when young and never develop. General rule the higher a youth player current ability is the higher chance for development. But it’s never 100% certain. Anything can happen still. It’s just the best chance.

You can add more than 500 to a shortlist, you just have to do it in bits under 500.

You can add 500 at a time like this, so eventually you can add them all. You can't say the guy at the top WILL be world class but if they have a good personality and you get some luck they will have a decent shot

Im managing Malaga in 2nd tier (2nd season) when my B team gets inducted to the league system and eventuay rise to the 3rd or even 2nd tier of Spain would you reccommend just playing them in the B insteaf of loaning as the B team would be at a high level playing competitive games?

FWIW at that sort of level I would focus almost 100% on recruiting and not worry too much about youth. As your club reputation increases I'd expect you would typically be able to recruit players well in excess of whatever your youth system develops. But yeah B team minutes can be useful

Hi All, i get everything that has been said, BUT how do you actually get these great players as at ages of 15 or 16 they need a certain period of time playing in their country to get a work permit?

You sign them just when they turn 17, literally the day after their 17th birthday. EBFM test show that rating has no influence on growth. Perhaps u are looking it other way around. PLayers who are growing very fast usually get higher ratings in their loaned league.

The way I always understood Youth Facilities and Junior Coaching is how they affect the CA/PA of your youth player intake. Higher Junior coaching = Higher starting CA of your newgens, while Higher Youth Facilities = Higher Max PA (theoretically from attracting and retaining players with higher talent thresholds). I could be wrong, but anecdotally I've found there to be more than just a coincidental correlation.

I small tip, when subbing in young players, to my knowledge, it won't help their development at all if they don't get an actual rating. So, the latest you can sub a youngster for "game experience" is around 70 minutes where they can get 20-25 mins of game time.

the latest is 60. anything less than 30 mins (for some reason they don't count extra time and injury time) and you'd be better off not even bringing them to your bench. let them rest or play u20 football
