A lot of them were down to when they were released. A number of games would have benefited greatly probably by having more megs. Genesis was notorious for releasing early games on really tiny carts (memory-wise obviously)

@@JohnDoe-kv3kd I agree, all the reason why I believe the Gen should have launched a yr later at least. Would have benefited the overall hardware package as well. Sega had the bad habit of releasing too much hardware and/or releasing prematurely before the ideal time. At least in my perspective, and history supports.

My best buddy and I spent a “fortune” at the arcades to finish Cap America. Got the MD cartridge and played it over and over again. This same friend got the Sega CD and we loved the Road Avenger intro music. Unfortunately my friend died in a silly car accident in the late 90s. Every episode of this channel reminds me of the good times we had playing games. I tried to find the Road Avenger’s intro music but this version seems to be lost (this music was compressed with the video, not a separated CD track). It was performed by a Japanese group called J-walk (or Jaywalk).

justin goers Thanks, I think I still haven’t digested it yet even after all this time, but it’s good to remember the nice parts. For the music, just search for Road Avenger Sega theme. Here’s one: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hc6qn9mXr8C-YKc.html It’s in “Japanenglish”, lyrics are laughable but I really like it (“Wolfteam” voiceover by George Takei, didn’t know at the time because I’m from Brazil and saw Star Trek dubbed in Portuguese).

But as with all things it's always better sound but otherwise inferior to the arcade. I mean I feel like if it had come out later in the lifespan of the Genesis it might have gotten a better port.
@texturem0nkey
@texturem0nkey 4 жыл бұрын
I was really looking forward to this port when it was released, because Genesis really needed a competent Contra game and this looked like it would fit the bill. Sadly they kinda neutered the port, between it being single-player only, and (understandably) replacing the unique radial control scheme of the arcade with a much jankier adaptation for the control pad. This wasn't an unforgivable sin, but the game was significantly less interesting/fun to play as the arcade had obviously been designed around that radial stick. In the end I just rented it and shrugged at what could have been - if they went a different route with the level design, this could have been an endearing classic!

Its weird Data East never ported Tumblepop to the Sega Genesis. It would've been a good fit alongside Toaplan's Snow Bros. It would've also been cool to see either Night Slashers, Nitroball or Boogie Wings on the platform but oh well... BTW, you should absolutely do an episode about Toaplan games on the Sega Genesis :D (Twin Cobra, Fire Shark, Truxton, Twin Hawk, Snow Bros. Grind Stormer, Slap Fight, Wardner, Hellfire, Zero Wing and MUSHA [Which was published by them in Japan actually!]).

Darwin 4081 needs a little more of love. It is pretty close to the arcade version and the evolution system, while not perfect, it's pretty interesting and more complicated than it looks, with a lot of variations depending of certain conditions and situations. What's really the best thing about the game is its strange music and minimalistic visuals believe it or not.

Me and my brothers had Side Pocket because my parents loved it. Id put it on just to listen to the music which is nothing less than stellar. I am a huge smooth jazz fan and in the 90s before MP3s and Spotify, it was a way to listen to Japense smooth jazz. As for the game, I still suck at it. But man, that soundtrack is absolutely awesome!

Side pocket was a game my parents made me play. We had a bar and a ton of tables and had folks in a league etc. Billiards was a way of life. I got a bit of ptsd when I saw that cover XD .
