Don't date for potential. Also don't date men that come from the slums. I'm telling you, I spent my 20s giving men chances because I refused to believe dating men that had less education, less money, come from bad neighborhoods etc because I swore people were being too hard on them. I'm telling women in their 20s, only date men who match you or better. Date UP. Every now and then a man that has less or come from less will come through and suprise you but not often. Most of the time, they dog you out and you're left embarrassed because he was a dusty lol. You will save yourself a lot of stress dating someone on your level

I think the point about knowing what you want is great, because what I want isn't what others may want. Being wined and dined is okay, but not my favorite thing for dating. Being treated "like a lady" doesn't mean that much to me. Being treated like an intelligent conversationalist, an interesting artist, and an admirable activist matter SO much more to me, so I look for relationships that will provide that, and will inspire me to feel the same about him.

Boundaries and high standards and expectations are a must. They might find it impossible to reach you, but what matters is that they try, and if they can't reach high enough, you leave them down there. Edit: to clarify, because I already see some crusties trying to be edgy, but I do not mean with materials. I mean with basic human decency and respect. The bar should never be low, and you cannot fix nobody, nor will that ever be your job.

i don’t really agree with the wine and dine thing. some people really can’t afford fine dining and expensive dates, especially now with inflation. but a good parter will try to take you on a romantic date without going broke
@AntiHAES
@AntiHAES Жыл бұрын
That’s weird, you telling that most men can not afford to take a woman they are dating to a restaurant and just treat her? There are affordable restaurants that are more high end…there’s plenty actually. There’s no need to go broke doing anything.
@whatamidoinghere9394
@whatamidoinghere9394 Жыл бұрын
@@AntiHAES didn’t say most men can’t afford it. but honestly, most young people live on minimum wage. plus, there is terrible inflation atm. not being treated in a moment like this, especially when people are trying to pay the gas bills while also ensure themselves 3 meals a day, is absolutely not fundamental. i’d definitely prefer spending the night at my bf’s house eating dinner together and watching a movie than spending $80+ on fine dining or drinking fancy wine. it’s the thought and the feeling behind it that matters. all i’m saying is this stuff is absolutely meaningless and there is no real need for it, especially when the necessary accomodations for it are just not present atm.
@underthablud

You know…I actually didn’t associate wine and dine with expensive until reading y’all’s comments. Maybe I’m a naturally cheap date but I think I associate that phrase with time and attention spent on me. Get ice cream hold hands on a walk, back and foot rub, a little scalp scratching…a little couch cuddling❤. I guess I’m easy.

Also, please don't waste your own time or let others waste your time. Your biological clock is real and even if you didn't have one, your life is finite and all too short. *It takes time to figure out what you want and don't want, go on dates, have a relationship that doesn't work out, break up, get over someone, be alone for a while, work some things out before going into another relationship, go on more dates, find another person you want to go beyond a few dates with, build a serious relationship together, get married, start building your family... All of this takes time. It can make you feel like you should stick with the person you're with because you've already invested so much time in them, even if the relationship is bad or you don't really align or it's just going nowhere. Or you can do the opposite, which is to not pay any serious mind to any of the above. You haven't given any considerable thought to what you want in life and love and/or you haven't made any real efforts to make it happen, or you've put it all off in favour of fun in the moment or building a career, telling yourself you have plenty of time and (if at all) picturing a future in which everything has just fallen in place. Before you know it you're yearning to start a family but you've left it quite late, maybe even too late when you factor in how much fertility can vary and how long it takes to go through the process I mentioned above (*). I don't say this to encourage you to stay in the wrong relationship or grab the nearest man and run down the aisle with him, or even to discourage you from having a career. I say it because often we really don't have a great sense of our individual biological clocks, our own reproductive health and how quickly our 20's will fly by. We're also prone to the sunk cost fallacy and wasting time. Just something to really think about.

How about this: most guys your age, and I'm talking like 90%, do not care one bit about you. It's not worth it to date in your 20s. Date someone older, because men start to mature usually after 30-35.

Don't let others influence you to date someone you're clearly not interested in. It's ok to say no (you're not being difficult or a b**ch). A real friend would understand. Second, don't date for potential. See people for who they are the first time.
